Last time I bought a GOOD sheet of birch it ran me about $45. Apparently the price has gone up by $5+ recently.

Density and weight are one in the same for something of the same size FYI so Birch is lighter but not more dense.

make sure you dont use Birch Ply like whats found in Lowes or Home Depot. It has no advantage over MDF. You would need to use a solid Birch to have an advantage and it can be very expensive.

except for the fact that it weighs half as much

As long as it isnt any less dense and it stays just as rigid, then that could be a plus.

x2, comes in 4'x8' here as well. I think the 5'x5' sheets are if you buy it from like, a construction/contractor place.

Just curious, which ply do you use? I see lowes has 7ply and 9ply, just wondering if theres a huge difference.

That's probably for the cheaper **** (which is exactly what it is).

All the hardware stores by me have a few different types. The cheapest, crappiest stuff is $40. That's the stuff that isn't as dense, has less layers, and tends to have gaps and stuff between the layers.

The good 13 ply Baltic Birch can only be found in 5 x 5 sheets, at least from my supplier...
