you're a ***** and I like your subs.

that's about it. Besides that :) good looking idea with them there subbies.

boomin spl built the recone kits for me - baskets (standard 6 spoke 18"), soft parts, glue, terminals, dustcaps ect. i built them up when the recones got to me. they are dual 1 ohm 18's. standard 3 inch coil, round copper. i only have 1kw to give them thus far, so i gotta save up a few bucks to get 3~4kw for them. the motor for the konaki is almost identical to the DD 9500G or the AudioQue HDC3 A.

my goal is to make it swappable. no modification of my VW GTi. seats fold down, IDQ15's remove, konaki 18's slide in, quick connects on all the wires, and im rollin.

so that is my design goal. hopefully everything fits the way i want it to fit.

i have the same motor's with 12 spoke 18" baskets, let me know how they sound,im still waiting to get my recones

req
07-12-2008, 12:30 PM
all depends on what amps come up for sale when im ready to buy lol.

ill keep you all posted :)

just finished gluing the dustcaps on.

Refresh my memory, aren't the ID's currently IB'd?

req
07-12-2008, 03:07 PM
yes. this is my trunk currently.

http://i30.tinypic.com/24nmpnb.jpg

i just took out the idq's and they are on the floor right now. like i said, my goal is to be able to remove the idq's when i want to street beat with the 18's within 30 minutes. i had to do some re-design work because my original width that i thought i had was a few inches too much. i was prolly thinking of the width i have (37") as inner dimensions and i added the walls to that . i dont know. but i now have 36hz tuning and 8.6 cubes. still should be killer.

i just did a box with one of those clones for a kid from rochester, was a 15 tho.... it gets loud, but in my opinion being as loose as it is new its not goin to last......i hope he built those with stiffer parts...... good luck to ya tho....

req

yea mine have 4 spiders. they are quite stiff. waitin for my buddy with the house\truck to get back at me.

i can always get new recones. im not going to be using them all the time. and i only intend to give the pair 3~4kw at most. for now i only have 1kw :(

and who built the recone for you by the way?

they are just sitting there :(

Lowes or Home Deot(whichever you purchase from) will cut it if you buy from them

req
07-13-2008, 11:40 AM
ive done that before, sometimes with good results, sometimes with bad results. usually the workers there are not too keen to help you out cutting your project. i tend to slip em $5 to cut them right for me. i was thinking about going and doing that, and hoping for the best. i wish i could just get like 45 mins on that panel saw myself and i would have perfect cuts. ****it.

yea I have done it 2 times, and both times I found several pieces off by 1/8 which can make a huge difference. DA's dont account for the blade

Are the konaki subs 12" and 15" motors the same size?

req
07-13-2008, 03:15 PM
as far as i know they are all the same size.

i went and got the wood cut at lowes. guy was cool - but he thought i wrote down 36", however i wrote 38" - or he was just not paying attention, so he ended up scrapping two $40 pieces of birch ahhaha.

all in all, the wood looks like its on par with the cuts. i have a circular saw\straight edge and a router. so i will trim them as necessary.

and i got some sonic breakfast burritos ftw.

ill prolly do a dry assembly here in a little bit and then start the glue process. im just not sure how im going to put that brace in the middle yet. i will figure that part out when the time comes lol.

yunvme666
07-13-2008, 03:25 PM
it was a sub from tim which i should have looked closer at first, i wouldnt have let my buddy get a clone/knockoff, theres to many real ones around for cheaper....oh well....lol....

req
07-13-2008, 03:39 PM
well, regardless, we will see how she preforms. if i dont like it, ill clean off the landings and get some new recones.

im not too worried about it. it should be very loud no matter wat :)

hell ya it should, your cars tiny...lol...

07-13-2008, 04:16 PM
Stupid question probably, but that box looks heavy as hell, or does the birch make it significantly lighter?
Otherwise, I assume you have someone to help you lift that thing into the hatch?

req
07-13-2008, 04:56 PM
i actually lifted the box without the subs just now. its prolly only a 45~50lb box with all constructed. so like 150~175 with the subs in. i will have large metal fence handles bolted on the front and back to help the removal and replacement process.

ill get pics of those soon. but construction has started, i have a few pics thus far. i need to notch out the center brace so i can fit the port wall in place and retain the brace above and below the port. so im back out with my jigsaw and circular saw. be back later :)

req

uploading pictures of the build now.

all thats left to do is to cut the holes with the router and trim a bit off the top\bottom with the flush router bit because the guy at lowes missed a few fractions of an inch, but it will come out fine. ill prolly round all the sides off while im at it.

let me know what you all think.

the black titebond thats for trim molding and crap is freaking awesome by the way. its super thick and will not drip or run, i was using the stuff upside down and it came out like silicone. the thickness of it is so awesome. we have all tried to put the glue on a vertical surface before and it starts running down the wood and getting everywhere.

this stuff just stays where you apply it and you can run it down the corner of your pieces like silicone. i will never use any other wood glue ever again.

for now just 1100w from a memphis belle.

ill be getting new amps for them in the short term. thinkin 1500~2kw each, the amp(s) all depend on what comes up for sale in the classifieds when im ready to buy. i figure ill spend 600~700 on amp(s) so far ive only spent $600 on the sub, amps, box, misc. gonna be around $1200~1500 total i estimate. im lookin to keep it as cheap as possible just to proove to all the idiots around here locally that you dont need $5000 to put up numbers with music. prolly after i get back from nevada next month is when i will seriously start considering amps - i would have loved those two toxic 2200w amps that were for sale - they still may be, but prolly not in a month or two :(.

it could stand to be an inch shorter. i dont know how stringent the rules are when competing (if\when i do), i think the subs are going to sit above the window line when they are installed. but i dont think it will be a huge deal. least i hope not. im not too worried about it tho - im more concerned with it being loud enough to shut all these haters up - and entertaining for myself.

well it rained like crazy today so i did not have a chance to work on the enclosure or anything. i however did pick up my new 42" 1080p hi def LCD. i just need to get a stand made up for it so that i can use the dresser space for the receiver and speakers.
