i plan on using these ports for my next box design

my question is, i see some people have the port tube on the outside of the box, and others on the inside of the box. is there any reasoning behind this other than the ports taking up space inside the box?

also, say the port was inside the box, do i still need to have both ends flared? or would i cut off the flared end that is inside the box?

the point for having the port outside the box is so that there is no port displacement allowing the enclosure to be smaller

ok, but there is no benefit sound wise or say in loudness to where the ports are, right?

there might be spl advantages to having the ports in one corner and the sub in another like in a reg cab chevy. For daily, external ports are a PITA.

That isn't always true....I just started a topic about this about an hour ago. I just built a box with port firing to the side and sub on the other side for a reg cab ranger and it sounds terrible. Lost so much output compared to my other box.

KHARPS, keep testing as sub up, port on the other side firing sideways has been proven to work. 2-10" BLs got to 149.x in a reg cab.

BTW, I said MIGHT and LIKE, as they were examples.

I've watched that vid many many times! I have one 10'' BL on a JL 1000/1. I can't fit sub up though.

Oh I know, I wasn't trying to question you at all. I was just kind of chiming in with my experience in my truck.

its going in the back of a jeep, so in the cargo area. my current set up is sub up, slot port facing rear.

this time around ill have 2 15"s which will both face up. its a daily set up, but i want it to be loud and move a lot of air. i was thinknig of going with a wall, but a lot of people said a wall wont benefit me if its behind the second row seats. think im just gunna go with a big box, just under 10 cubes before i account for port and driver displacement.

if im trying to move as much ari as possible, is there any particular way i should face the ports, or is port back still my best bet?

I don't have any experince with box building besides for a standard cab truck, but I've read tons of good things about sub up-port back in SUV's and moving air.

You would try to keep the ports at least the port diameter away from any wall if possible.

ive got about 9"-10" between the ports and the back of the hatch. i plan on using 4" ports, so i should be good, right?
