bones I also just got a pair of these in but its going to be a week or 2 before I even start with the install. Let me know how you like them, and on your downfiring question I had a Titan back in January and I like the downfiring sound above all else in it. seemed to sound the best and got the loudest. Good luck and subscribed.

actually i like that idea, with the subs firing down. keeps them protected. i might have to try something like that in my trunk. do you think you'll lose any output with them like that vs. a normal mounted enclosure (car trunk with subs facing rear of car)?

Lol. I can't wait till the BMs come out. They look to be the only real competition for the TW5. And competition is always good for the consumer.

I don't think it will take that long to get this to production. The prototype sounds great apparantly, and the looks are pretty much set except for a decision on the logo. They still have some testing to do, but I think I can at least expect one or two BMs under the Christmas tree this year.:D

Of course, I have a hatch back, so the TW5 is out of the question anyway. I woudln't mind spending the money if it was one of the only ways I could get good sound, but I have plenty of room now that I ditched my truck

They only need .5 cubes apiece, so you could very easily give them proper space and still invert them to show off the basket. Hell, I could cram a 12" TC9 in my std cab s10 with 2 cubes ported and an amp rack. Just have to put in the time.

ported isnt recommended but after an hour or so talking to JL yesterday they are capable of being ported.
everything in the tw5 is the same as a normal woofer.
my friend is actually planning on getting one to test ported in his stratus which should be louder than hell seeing as he has 3k + in deadening inside it.

ported sounds like it would need 2ft or so but would get very loud with low power

Yeah, Electrodynamic said his civic is deadened to the max, and the BM still managed to cause rattling. He said it is comparable to the Magv3 in sound, which is a very impressive feat for a slimline woofer.

But for $1100 I can build an entire system that will be more than a match for the TW5s. I would rather have 2 of the new Mags when they come out.

Not dogging the TW5 at all though. I think it is a great piece of equipment, and I'm really glad to see that people with single cab trucks, small convertibles, or even normal sized cars with a lot of cargo can have a system without sacrificing quality or quantity of sound

SI is not an SPL-based company. If it sounds anything like the old mag, the BM should be an SQ monster that can still get loud.

However, since I want straight SQ, I'll probably just go with a single MagV4. Hits lower than the BM and the old Mag. Should be one stellar woofer.

Or maybe I'll go with an Aura MR if I ever fall into some real money:D

I certainly hope they sound better than that with all the hype going on. I have heard the W3s and was not all that impressed. Decent, middle of the road daily driving sub, but nothing spectacular.

Now if it was comparable to the W6, we might have a contender. Otherwise, I think the BM will stomp all over the TW5

That is what I wanted to hear. I am glad to see that JL is finally earning their reputation again, with the introduction of the TW5 and the HD amps. As ahead of its time as the W7 was, it has been around for 7 or 8 years now, and you need to keep moving to keep my attention.

That is what I wanted to hear. I am glad to see that JL is finally earning their reputation again, with the introduction of the TW5 and the HD amps. As ahead of its time as the W7 was, it has been around for 7 or 8 years now, and you need to keep moving to keep my attention.

those HDs are ****. if i dont like these on the 1000/1 ill sell it and get the HDs

I loved my MC500d. Amazing amp that served me well for 3 years. But it is coincidently replaced by a JL 1000/1 (free) and I think it is a very nice amp as well.

The slash amps are definitely nice. But the only thing I like about them over other good amps is the fact that the can put out full power from 1.5-4 ohms. But for the price, I would much rather have the Alpine PDX amps. Smaller, sexier, efficient as hell.

I will always think that JL is overpriced. The w7s saving grace was that it was so technologically advanced. Now I can get subs that sound as good or better for less than half the price. But with the TW5, they again have a product that no other company can match (at least for another 6 months or so).

only thing is the alpines need 14.4 to get the rated power
JL slash series need 11-14.4, voltage drops don't cut power. :D

not to dog on the PDX, they are reallllly nice and ****. I have one lying around. very sweet amp. I hoped the JL revisions on the slashv2 series would have looked better and sexier but oh well...., its the quality not the looks right?

Sorry to anyone living in LA or Cali in general, but they couldn't pay me to live there............ok, well if it was quite a bit, but LA is dirty as sin and wayyyyyy overpopulated like Bones said and way to hot!

I will take the rain, storms and what not where I live than that ish. Was there for a month, as well as Phoenix for a month and lived in Florida for a couple years when I was younger and 6 months when I was 19. No thanks, I will stay in Ohio and have the changes.

Would like to move to Colorado or Utah though. They have nice scenery there and weather seems to be decent there.

oh ok.

i did think about leaving the dividers out of it to make a shared chamber.
if this isnt to my liking then ill try a shared chamber

it started out as seperated because i was planning on doing it a lot different when i changed my mind i just left it seperate chambers. no real reason why exactly. although it worked out for a place for the batteries

why do you want them downfiring? i put them like this cause i figured i wanted to of them to fire back and bounce back towards the front of the car and 4 of them to just fire back but in reality fire up.

How did a steel box sound?I couldnt really tell you. I heard the steel box on the JL350 but the car has tons of work. It sounded great, but again, there was a lot of other contributing factors to the sounds aside from the steel box so i dont know.

i asked what's the min/max and they said to just run 300 watts. their power ratings are off a little, owners manual says 600 continuous but on that chart, that's in the danger zone. they said when they rolled out the new subs they were running 300 watts to each. as you can clearly see, minimum power is at the 100 watt mark.

running the 1000/1 to the pair im sure i will be just fine seeing as how im not going to be running them full tilt or anything.

downfiring like its designed for

with them downfiring i NEED to get some L brackets to secure the box to the floor to keep it from lifting.

at that point the box starts lifting and sounds horrible when it hits the floor of course
