How can you know the NET volume when you don't even know port displacement, yet?

Is this gross volume minus subwoofer displacement?

that box isnt 10 cubes

minus woofer displacement it is

and yea, i guess that number is gross w/ woofer displacement

i plan on it, i dont know what class i'll be in, im thinking advanced no wall, where i know for sure i'll place.

So, were you wanting to use Aero's? Did you want to internal or external? What subs are you using... will they have enough room after adding internal ports if you want to go this way?

dcole18
06-29-2008, 02:38 PM
nope... have you seen his buildlog?

there hifonics hfi12d4's box will be a little small, but i have heard these are ok in a 1.0 ported encloser (even though reccomended is 1.5), so it should be alright

GohillaAudio
06-29-2008, 02:39 PM
it will need to be a slot port

Not figuring all the technical stuff and using the base dimensions.... that enclosure is 12.7037 cu. ft. Im sure it will be about 10 when all is said and done.

GohillaAudio

there not exact, but there close enough ( i used the styrofoam beads found in beanbag chairs) and took them out 1 cubic foot at a time)

im used to building sealed fiberglass enclosures......so thats the best method i know for irregular enclosures

I just went and looked at your build log... How do you plan on adding a slot port to a box that is already sealed up? Are you going to start over?

If it were me, I'd just run 'em sealed and brace the **** out of the box... or add aero's externally out the back and brace the **** out of the box... or start over with a well defined plan first.

You'll never achieve stellar results without first having a plan and sticking to it. It seems the port is an afterthought for you, when it should have been built into the design to begin with.

No disrespect intended, Sir.

just looking for a drop in/screw down port around 6" tall by 14" wide, i left a space open for the port, and you are one of the few people on here that is respectful, so its ok

you need about double that amount of port area (163.5 square inches to be exact, thats a minimum)

GohillaAudio

thats fine, i left a huge spot for port, what length for around 36-40 hz?

port needs to be external or it will screw everything up more than it already is

14" long
12" wide

and port length of 26.25"

that should be CLOSE to 35hz

i cannot give you an exact number because you cannot give me an exact internal volume

GohillaAudio
06-29-2008, 03:06 PM
thats at 14x12?

GohillaAudio
06-29-2008, 03:07 PM
could i do a variation of that mesurement? say....8" by 18"?

what would port lenght be to get me closer to 40hz?

dcole18
06-29-2008, 03:08 PM
thats at 14x12?

yeah... iirc thats like 174 square inches of port area

but port length (depth) is 26.25" for 35hz (ish) tuning

do 9"x18"

and 16.75" of length

one last question and i'll leave ya alone, it it alright to have a bend in the port if remain at the same overall internal mesure, and same length?

Care to revise your statement?

A 24"x16"x49" box is a **** hair less than 9ft^3 BEFORE any kind of sub/port displacement. Unless those are his internal dimensions, which I highly doubt.

edit: just looked at the OP again, I'm a *******.

they are... but his internal measurements arent exact... its all somewhere in the area of ~10 cubes tho
