This will be a relatively slow build log, but tomorrow I will be installing HU and dash kit so figured I'd start up the thread tonight.

The setup as of now is going to be :::

Sub : RE MT 15" (d2)
Amp : Crunch GP-3000d PRO (It was between this and a rockford T3000... The Crunch Won..)
HeadUnit : Kenwood Excelon KDC-X672 *This is a temporary HU since I won't have components for a few months, didn't need anything fancy*
Wires : So far I have a Kicker 1/0 Hyperflex dual amp kit (PKD1), KnuKonceptz RCA's, and Big 3 will probably be done with Knu 1/0 or Hyperflex 1/0.
Front Stage : PG RSD 6.5 Components
Front Stage Amp : Kicker ZX350.4

That's about it for now, I'm waiting on the amp to get in as well as some of the stuff but I have the HU and dash kit (stupid mazda 6 with it's integrated A/C and Radio, needed a $180 dashkit.) and that will be going in tomorrow.

Will keep this updated with pics / info! :D

**This build log is mainly to help out others with MAzda 6's as there are very few of us in the Car Audio world. So far I've only spoken with ONE other user who did an install in his mazda 6 on this forum. So this is basically going to be a well documented build log in hopes I can help whoever needs it.**

Should have done some more looking. When I was looking at M6s, I found a dash kit for like $60

I looked like hell for actually about 2 months and the cheapest I found new was $169 or something like that. Ended up giving in and buying that one. It was the Metra Turbo2 Dash Kit (#99-7503)

Too late now though, I already bought it and it's sitting right here. Haha.

x20 what year is the 6 you have? If it is one of the older ones, $160 will be the cheapest you can find for that car. The newer 6s have a different dash configuration that does not call for the whole entire console to be replaced. Also, be careful with the kit the defrost button can be a little touchy.

Well I got the HeadUnit in there and everything. I see what you mean about the defrost button, if I hit the A/C Recycle button wrong it'll turn on the defrost.

Haha, doesn't bother me any though. I never use the defrost or the recycle, so :p:.

A question though if you happen to come back in, My Recycle / Fressh button is backwards, like, when I have it on fresh air it's really recycling, and vice-versa. Is this a common problem or something? Can it be fixed? Not much of a problem, just asking.

Oh and I forgot to hook up the LCD screen from the car onto the dash kit, so no screen until I take it apart again this weekend and use the harness. Lol, I knew that plug that was hanging there went somewhere!

But I wasn't able to snap any pics, I started doing it and got carried away. I had the camera, but next thing I knew I was already done and hadn't taken any photos. Haha.

But yeah, I got the Crunch GP3000DPro in a couple days ago :woot:!

Only complaint is the remote knob is Bass Boost and not an actual Gain , oh well. I just won't use it. But other than that it looks like a fine amp.

And I ordered my front stage, will be as shown in sig :

Front Stage : PG RSD 6.5 Components (On The Way As Well)
Front Stage Amp : Kicker ZX350.4 (Also On The Way)

Hopefully it arrives on Saturday so I can install this weekend, if not it'll have to wait until next weekend.

But yeah, everything is coming together nicely! Anyone else on here that owns a 6, do you happen to know how to drop the headliner? I'm assuming it's just a matter of unscrewing the visors and popping out the domes and any clips like with most cars, but just asking first.

Wow, sorry for this epicly long post, but yeah, it was a major update :D.

As far as I know there is no way to fix that install kit. It is what it is. If you make it up to IN I sure would like to hear/see this system!!!

Ah well that stinks, it's really not that bad, but if I find it to be that annoying and I have some freetime I'll take a look at the board and see if I can figure anything out.

I'll be sure to let you know if I'm ever in the area :D

Haha yeah I can say it was a pain, and the instructions that came with the dash kit were terribly translated, and didn't have very good pics so at first I unscrewed the wrong things and lost one of the screws. Not sure what the screws were for, but my car hasn't fallen apart yet so I should be okay.

It definitely was a pain though, and I have to take it apart again to run RCA's and replace the harness I left out for the screen. I didn't get a chance to do so this weekend though so it'll either be during the week or this weekend coming up.

On the plus side : My RSD's and ZX350.4 will arrive on Monday! :D

Thanks for the GL wishing bones :D Hopefully the rest goes smoothly!

RSD's and ZX350.4 got in today! Pics in a few minutes. :D

Going to take my door panels off when I get home later today around 6pm to see how difficult the install would be, if it's relatively easy and I think it will be quick I'll do it one day this week. If it seems a bit more complex I'll wait for the weekend.

And The PG RSD 6.5 Comps everybody on here loves so much :

I went out to take off my door panels earlier today and of course the rain started and hasn't stopped yet, so I guess this build log won't be having any install pics until the weekend.. :(

Sorry guys :p:, but I warned you it'd be slow!

I have a mazda 6i I can relate on the indash. I couldn't get those screws at the bottom of it to come out. So don't you have 6x8 door speakers?? I have some rockfosgate t1682s speaker in all four doors. Subwoofer grade midbass coming for those speakers. Let me know if u need a little instruction on things i'll see what i can do to help.

Yeah it's 6x8's with the tweeter in the A pillar. Not sure how I'm gonna get a 6.5 in there but I'll just make a baffle for it and cut up the door panel. I'll see. :p:

Thanks for the offer of help, if I run into any problems I'll give you a shout :D

Alright cool then, Thanks a lot for the help, I'll give that a shot this weekend.

Wow I have a busy weekend.

Here's my plans starting friday :

Remove old speakers and wire in new amplifier (ZX350.4)
Find a way to mount the PG RSD 6.5's in the door (Yay :p:)
Decide whether to mount tweets in the a pillar (currently there) or in the kicks. (Probably going towards a pillar)
Hook all that up
If I have time, hopefully redo headliner since it's falling like no tomorrow.
Also, clean up engine bay (it's crazy dirty) and run big 3 depending on if my order from Knu gets here this week.

Wish me luck! :p:

EDIT : Yay! Just received email confirmation that my 50 sq. ft. of FatMat has shipped :D.

I chose fatmat for the low price, lol. I only plan on doing the trunk in fatmat, since I am running low on the $$$ after dumping $$ into all this and unexpected things (components, zx350.4, etc.) I had to do fatmat since it is much cheaper then SecondSkin and Raamat. I do plan on buying some damplifier in a couple months and doing my whole cabin in it, but that stuff gets pricey and to be honest I can't afford it right now.

Just went out and removed the door panels, these are the easiest door panels I've ever taken of tbh. It all comes off in one piece, and is only held with 3 screws and some pressure clips.sure one of the screws was :sneaky: and was hiding under a sticky rubber thing in the pull handle, but I found him.

Anyways, it'll be interesting to fit these 6.5's in there. Hopefully the tweeter fits in the stock a pillar housing, however I highly doubt it would because that would just make things easy. I'm gonna have to make some sort of baffle and drill it into the door. I don't care about making holes in the car or whatever because it's completely paid for and yeah that's not a problem.

This will be started this weekend, though I have a feeling I won't finish it in time and will be driving in silence next week.

We'll see!

I've never installed speakers that didn't fit in the doors, anybody have any suggestions? Not sure on how to go about it... Should I just get some MDF cut to fit the RSD mid and bolt it onto the door? Lol..

Well MDF would be the way to go if u can't just go out and buy a baffle for it. If you MDF get some non hardening modeling clay and place it around and under the cut baffle. That will deaden the baffle and the deader your door are the better. the clay cost like 97 cents or something.

Well, saw the opportunity today and figured I'd do the big 3. I did it and that's done (used Knu 1/0 wire and ring terminals I got from Kent at Team H&K)

All went well, wasn't too difficult on my car thankfully.

The Big 3, couldn't get a pic by the alternator since it was under the engine. This made it hard as hell to get to as I had to jack up the car and do the wiring on the alternator from the bottom blindly since you can't see it from under.

Yeah, the alternator placement on the 6 is terrible. It's under the engine and kinda a pain to get to. I had mine replaced so the casing was a bit bigger and easier to get to, but none the less it was a pain in the *** since you can't see the alt from the bottom of the car, you just have to do it by feel.

If you do anything on your Mazda 6 and need some help or get stuck somewhere get at me and I can try to help you out, I'm doing pretty much everything so if you happen to get stuck somewhere I can help you out hopefully. :)

****, I never realized 10gauge speaker wire was so huge. I don't think I'll be able to use it. :(

It's massive. Lol. But the GP3k said it used 10gauge speaker terminals, so I figured *lightbulb* 10 gauge wire!

Nope. Lol, the push terminals on the sub hardly accept it by itself, and I'll need to double it up on one of the VC's to wire it down to 1Ω, unless I can figure out a genius invention.

I believe it was a Mazda 6 that bassboxed a mid 143 (60 sec avg on music) with one MT 12" in a CRX style box with 4 in aeros and won IASCA flyweight bassboxing at SBN last year.. Never really heard of CRX styl boxes in trunks, but it worked for this guy i guess. Just thought you might want to try it.

There is no "learning" to do. Aeros have tons of benefits over regular slot ports, to figure out port length you just type in your box and tuning specs to psp-inc.com calculator.

Phew, started up the build on a serious note today. Fri/Sat was just deadening the trunk, but today I worked on the car from 10:30AM till about 9PM or so, managed to pull out all of the interior. (Seats, carpet, trim panels, center console, just about everything except the dash and the headliner)

Pics will come in a few minutes, uploading now.

Also managed to run my 0gauge power to the trunk and my 8gauge to the passenger side. That stock grommet is a ***** to get 0gauge through. Let alone after you stuff a couple 8 gauge wires. But it happened, took some persuasion but it happened. :D

Like I said, pics in a few :)

I was wondering if anyone can tell me what this is? I discovered it up in my dashboard but by the time I saw it it was dark and I didn't get to check into it. I will look into it tomorrow again though. I bought this car used with like 5K Miles from a guy that couldn't make the payments, he must have taken all his audio equipment out before giving it back to the dealer because I received it with stock HU and stock everything but there was a set of RCA's and some stuff like that white box stuffed up inside the dash.

The only reason I took out like, everything from the interior is as it's gotten dirty as hell, and I figured hey I don't need to go anywhere for a few weeks, plus my mom just got a new car so whatever. Might as well. Gonna clean the seats and carpet and everything good as hell then put it all back in. Also gotta change my headliner, but gotta head to joanne's and hope they have the right color :p:.

****, just realized the pics of that white pyramid box are blurry as HELL. I'll try to take some more tomorow if nobody can tell what it is from the looks of it.

I was wondering if anyone can tell me what this is? I discovered it up in my dashboard but by the time I saw it it was dark and I didn't get to check into it. I will look into it tomorrow again though. I bought this car used with like 5K Miles from a guy that couldn't make the payments, he must have taken all his audio equipment out before giving it back to the dealer because I received it with stock HU and stock everything but there was a set of RCA's and some stuff like that white box stuffed up inside the dash.

http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d102/ReDmAn-MeThOd/th_DSC00209.jpg (http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d102/ReDmAn-MeThOd/DSC00209.jpg)

Almost looks like a line out converter for running an amp off a stock deck.

BTW in your big 3 pics I only noticed a single added power lead and it looked like a chassis ground?

edit-

In this pic

http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d102/ReDmAn-MeThOd/DSC00195.jpg

Whats the deal with the grounds? I see the alternator lead, but where are the grounds going? It looks like you did the engine to chassis, then have a chassis ground at the same spot, but is it just not hooked to the batt? And whats the smaller black ground doing going from the batt to that spot? Is that the factory ground?

Just confused me and I want to make sure everythings setup right for you is all.

Ah okay, yeah that's what I first thought it to be, a LOC. Well I don't have stock HU, so Il'l rip that out and all it's wires.

And as for the big 3, it's just the way it looks. I did the alternator to the positive, as seen there. Then I grounded the battery and engine block in the same spot, the chassis does go back to the negative battery, and I tested voltage at all wires to ensure it was done correctly.

Thanks for the concern though :) It's just the pic is a bad angle and the wire goes down from the terminal, not straight across like the stock one.

Haha yeah I know, that angle of the pic made it look like it was just leading to nowhere. But the way I had to run it was under the battery tray them up to the battery terminal, so you can't really see it unless your looking at it from the top or the other side. :p:

Seems theres not much else I can do until I get my jigsaw this week. I need to make the MDF baffle for the RSD comps and the box for the MT, both of which require the jigsaw :(.

So now I'm just cleaning my seats and **** since it's all out of the car I can clean them really good. Cigarettes = terrible for interior, the amount of tar/nicotine/whatever the hell it is that i'm scrubbing out of those seats is ridiculous.

Haha well I hadn't actually started. And I'm changing the temporary HU I have now for an Alpine 9887, will probably pick it up from the local shop today.

Expect to see the kenwood on here for sale pretty soon ;)

But yeah, bad news: I made a fake box out of cardboard and it didn't work at all. Trunk opening didn't want to let it through. So I guess 34Wx20Lx18H isn't going to work.

Need to figure something else out...

Or, build the box in the trunk :crying:

Well, progress today was not photo worthy, just ran speaker wires from doors to where the amp will be (under the passenger seat).

Tomorrow is another day! :p:

Weather looked like it was going to rain today, so didn't start till about 2-3pm, then some friends came by so I couldn't work anymore until like 6pm. Sun went down at 8:30ish and that's when I finished.

Well, it's not really audio related but part of my build none the less. Yep, I'm talking about my HID kit. :)

I got everything in except I can't mount the ballasts, I need to wait for my mom to get home to head down to the store and pickup metal screws that'll fit the ballast holes since my car is FAR from street ready at the moment. Hahaha!

Anyways, I also need to pickup some Injen air filter cleaner and oil, since I took off my whole front end anyways might as well clean the filter. :p:

Will put up picks of my car looking fucked up in a few minutes.

Also got my batteries in, and my jigsaw so I'm going to see if my buddy lets me use his pickup or takes me to buy the wood today/tomorrow to get going on the baffles and box. :D

That's all for now!

Play around with the box. You should be able to get a nasty low end outta that setup.

What are the specs on the current enlcosure? Size, tuning, port area.....

I would also recommend putting the sub closest to the left side in the box you have now. Theres a big pocket of wasted space right now and it would do better on the other side ;)

The current enclosure is 4.1 cubes at 35hz after displacement. I heard it didn't matter where the sub went as it will use all of the airspace regardless, so I put it all the way towards the right for a visual balance. :p:.

Port area is ummmm 60ish sq inches. I think it came out to 58 sq in.

Yeah eventually I'll try building another box, but I wanna enjoy it as is for a bit. :p:

Thats not true. If anything its better there than on the other side. If it was on the other side, you could have cancellations from the port and the sub.

The PG tweets were a bit bigger than the stock tweets, and I couldn't get them to fit inside the pillar pod that came without hacking it up and making a different mounting bracket, so I figured I'd just throw em in the door panel.

Yeah next time I'm planning on tuning it to like 30-32.

I moved it further back in the trunk though and it hits the lows MUCH better, still could get a bit lower though.

And as for the size of it, it seems everyone that ran the 15 MT had from like 3.9-4.2, so I figured I'd do the same, lol.

I know it's an old build log, but figured I'd give a status update.

I ended up mounting the Crunch GP3k on the box, and the amp died on my around September-October, can't remember exactly. Crappy solder joints popped from vibrations and some FET's shorted. Seems to be a common problem with certain people with GP3k's.

I've since painted the box, mounted it firing forwards, and got a Sundown 3000D to power the beast. Sub runs much cooler with the Sundown 3000D as opposed to the Crunch. I think the Crunch was sending a bit of a clipped signla. My voltage dropped a lot lower with the GP3k as well. (12.7). Now I'm dropping to 13.5.

Also got rid of the RSD's and dropped in some RE XXX Components. Still running off the Kicker ZX350.4 until I get a more powerful amp. No pics of the comps installed yet cause I need to glass the door panels, as right now they look like hell and I'd rather not show that ;). (Jigsaw + My tired as hell + door panels not fitting over the 3/4 MDF baffles + 2a.m. with work the next day... you can guess what went down ;)).

Here's some pics, my trunk is broken (not sure how, but it won't open), so I can't open the trunk or fold down my seats until I can get it fixed... ((Seats fold down from inside trunk :()).

It's pretty **** loud, the lows kinda roll off below 26-30hz, but that's box design, not the sub :p:.

Yeah when I had the box like closer towards the cabin it canceled out a lot, but I pushed it all the way back to the trunk lid and it helped a HUGE amount. The low-end output is far greater with it firing forward then when it was sub/port back. I'm in it for the lows

Oh and just an :fyi:, I copmpletely forgot but this build log featured the MT, I no longer am running the MT daily. I'm currently running a Juggernaut motor with a custom recone made to take about 2500-3K daily. :). It's stiffer then the MT, and more musical in my opinion, the cone is much lighter though so that may contribute to it a lot.

I plan on sealing it completely off from the trunk with foam / wood / etc once I find another Juggernaut motor and build up another 15. Then I'll be running 2 15's sub/port forward sealed off from the trunk. Kinda like walling off the trunk area :).

But, I've been on the hunt for a Jugg motor that matches for about a month and can't friggin find one. :crap:
