View Full Version : Should I go sealed or ported?
I'm getting a 13av.2 power by a Nine.1. Should I go ported or sealed? don't ask me what I'm looking for just if you were me would you go ported or sealed?

well what are you looking for?
well what are you looking for?
a ported design that can only be 27.5 inches wide and 14 inches deep.
i can make one that way but the port is tiny and i dont like port noise

thats like 3.75 cubic feet. that should be plenty to have a good size box and a big enough port

A nice slot port is all you need, and thats easy to do!!

it never hurts to get a lil bigger. if anything output wise , you might realy like it. reason i say ported is because ive heard them in a ported and a sealed and honestly they sound realy good ported . low and deep while having good SQ:D

how?
build it or you can buy AERO PORTS

Well goto RE Audios website, they have a nice lil box calculator that gives you cut out sheets and everything, and its pretty accurate, and easy to do,

So what the problem is??
build it or you can buy AERO PORTS
ya that's what i'm trying to do is figure out the plans to build one. And if i do aero ports i dont even know where to start
So what the problem is??
the problem is is that the port isnt wide enough (only 2 inches wide) and it'll make alota port noise (as ive been told) and i cant hav that bein the sub will be very close to me

I did one at 2cf with your max dimensions tuned to 32hz

Ok, so I'm going to be the ahole here and say go sealed...only cuz everyone else has gone ported and cuz I like sealed. You could get away with about a 1.3cf sealed box and IMO only lose a db or two of output versus the ported box, and gain a lot flatter response especially down low.
Flame suit on.

ya but how wide is the port? ive been told slim port will giv me alota port noise

2.5in wide and 55in long
I think 31sq in of port should be plenty for a 2cf box.

ha!!!!!!! i hav an idea. What if the port runs horizontally like

There is that as well :D
Ported will definitely get you louder - just depends on how you like to listen to your music. I like the more natural sound of sealed, but if you like it boomy ported is definitely the way to go. I've heard a lot of clean sounding ported subs as well, but that has definitely not been the norm based on my experience.

Nope. 55.25in long.
But oh wow, thats all wrong Because RE calc is dumb..
Sorry nvm scratch that. Instead of making a "maze" of port walls, it just sent it straight through the side of the box, so everything is off...
Sorry.

i'm not sure you need 55 inches, but 5.5 is laughable. mine is 2.2 with 2 4 inch round ports around 21 inches long. it's a little bit of a challenge to design the box and keep the ports inside, but doable.

It's a total pain in the *** is what it is ;)
well for a trunk car anyway. I'm sure there are MUCH better ways of doing it than how I do though.
well my sub will be sitting on a seat. would i hav port noise if the port is facing the seat or is that a bad idea?
comon dont leave me hangin

Be sure to secure it with a seatbelt :D
I would not "suffocate" the port.

do u think i would hear port noise if i fired it upwards? (the port that is)

if you're worried about port noise then you can round the edges of the timber used for the port both inside the enclosure and outside
sealed is always better for frequency response provided it is built right ie its not to boomy
ported will more times than not give you at least a 3db gain but enclosure size is quite critical and port length as well. it depends what kind of music you listen to.
although a 3db gain may not seem to much 6db's is considered to be twice as loud to the human ear

what driver/s are you using again? have you got the spec sheet that came with the driver? send me the spec.s and the length, height and depth you want to build the enclosure.
