Almost finished up with another one of my projects Ive had goin on lately, this one seemed worth while to post up. One of my buddies has a really nice beamer that he got last year and he wanted to transfer over the equipment he had from his last one.

He has a 13W7, it was in a pretty decent enclosure, double baffled but had nasty carpet on it but wasnt the right size for the trunk.

The 1000/1 that he has is wired up to the battery right in the trunk (stock the battery is located in a small compartment on the right side of the trunk) with 4ga. Grounded to the chassis at the batteries ground point. If he has dimming issues I am going to wire a small deep cycle battery in right on top of the stock one.

Theres a small storage spot in the trunk, theres basically a false floor cover that lays in the trunk and it folds up to reveal a small compartment. The amp is secured in there and I cut a new false floor out of 1/2 MDF to replace the factory cover, it will have a cutout in it for the top of the amplifier and it will be slightly counter sunk in.

The enclosure is ~3.0cube @ 32hz with about 30sq in of port. Upon measuring the trunk I found that we could get away with a ported enclosure with the dimensions I had. The box fits in absolutely perfectly in the trunk. The false floor follows the exact same lines as the trunk cutout for it and the enclosure lines up perfect on top fitting very snug in between the wheel wells.

Im going to put some small strips of an industrial velcro on the bottom of the false floor and enclosure as well.

Oh and the car is clean as hell btw, I didnt get any pics of it or the setup mocked up in the trunk but that just saves the good part for later ;)

:p:

Wow sorry for the story........on to pics:

Car looks kinda like this, IIRC its a 325i or something? (335i)I forget, all I remember is its a t-turbo six cylinder and its quick. Also has a nice set of BMW 19 inch wheels. And tint :naughty:

Overall he wanted a very clean simple install that looked factory and was easy to access.

BTW he ordered a few yards of suede that I will be covering the enclosure and false floor with. More pics tommorow night when he brings it by so I can put it all in. Just teasers for now :p:

I am highly anticipating the finished product! Should look good, seems you followed the lines pretty well and should look pretty sweet in there. Gotta say, nice install, for a nice audio setup, for a D.A.M.N. nice car!!! :D

Stay tuned because later tonight Ill post up the finished product. With it mocked up in the trunk it looked soooo ****, I cant wait to see it in there covered in suede. Everything slides in perfectly, its amazing how easy it really is to move this setup around. If for any reason he had to pull the box out, he just has to drop the rear seat, un plug the speaker wire, and slide the box out the trunk opening.

The fit of the enclosure in the back is amazing, you have to see it in person to really get a feel for how nice it slides in.

Also, since the car is a lease, whenever he turns it in he can just pick up another one. Slide the box out, pull out the false floor piece. Pull out the amp (which requires disconnecting the loc, remote, and the power and ground which are connected literally 2ft away) and just slide it all back in the next one.

I made a template for the bottom of the amp. The amp screws down to it and the board is secured in the cubby hole.

http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c241/MikeyB88/Misc005-2.jpg

Mocking it up still, here you can see where the power and ground run, I didnt get a close up but I had to notch the bottom corner of the plastic cover so that the false floor could lay flush.

I also had to get wicked with a drill and some 60 grit

Just hold your horses, the pics will explain

The only thing he cared about, was fitting his golf clubs in the back. Which he has plenty of room for

BTW he didnt want the amp to be covered in plexi. He wanted it to stand out a little and he has a blue neon that I have to hook up that will be right under the false floor.

It will light up the top heatsink of the amp blue :D

Not bad for a day and a nights work. Just one guy workin on it. <---------

The other day I got home from work and made the box and the false floor. I had made the box design one night and had a scrap piece of paper with everything I needed written on it. I got home, went to the garage, hacked up some wood and ended up with a clean cut box in just over a half hour. Spent a little while cuttin out the false floor and getting it and the box prepped.

Then I started today at ~6:30. Got the amp in place and sorted out the wiring, cut out the amp hole in the false floor. Then I wrapped everything, tuned the amp, put everything in, plugged the sub in and went for a fun little ride :D

Tools and materials included 1/2mdf, 3/4mdf, black suede, glue, brad nailer, staple gun, table saw, and my trusty jigsaw

And the plexi would prevent scuffing the amp too. Not saying it's bad without it, I see a lot of setups like that, and I like the look, but I know I use the **** out of my trunk. And something to safeguard my amps would be ideal.

Sounds really good actually. I was impressed. I mean, I drive around all day listening to an 18" BTL behind my head and I really enjoyed not only the sound of it but really the output as well. I mean, its doesnt feel nearly as loud as my btl obviously but it is very smooth and gives the ear drums a nice tickle. Awesome sounding driver.

In comparion to the 15" L7 that I installed in a diffent car, this honestly feels stronger and has more authority while sounding better doing it. The L7 could yield more output though in a different enclosure.

Yeah I told him I could do something cool with it and even put a BMW logo etched into it or something, he didnt really want to mess with it though. Hes got some other things he wants me to do to it as well down the road so maybe Ill have more pics some other time.

As you can see in this pic, the fit is perfect. The false floor is really tight, it couldnt be any better.

You can kinda tell in this pic how the box sits in at the far end of the trunk. Its also really tight between the wheel wells, just with it pushed in it would take a pretty hard hit to knock anything loose.

You could get wicked in this car and nothings goin anywhere :D

Nice and clean:) Is he running off stock headunit? or?

Yup, the stock BMW stereo isnt too bad. Hes not a bass head by any means and the sub blends in very well, its not over powered feeling at all.

The car is a lease btw so nothing could be modified too much. Hes only gonna have this car for another 6 months or so and then hes thinking about getting a little bit older M3.

I did the engine block to ground and battery to ground in 1/0, helped quite a bit. I really hate how bmws charge at a bit less then 14v, so at the battery it gets about 13.6 after it's warmed up. But the stock wire going to the back is already like 2/0ga cca wire, no joke:eek:

lol yeah he doesnt have any dimming issues. He had a shop wire in a cap into his last car, he wanted me to flush mount that with the amp but I would install a cap into his car lol. I explained to him the uselessness of one in this situation and convinced him it wasnt needed. Currently he has no dimming issues at all, and if he does I will wire in a second batt in the corner of the trunk on top of the stock one, but I dont think that will be necessary.

The owner put in a bright white led bulb in the trunk as well as the blue neon under the false floor. Ill have pics one of these days whenever he stops by.
