Yeah I posted this in my other thread but I am pretty sure this will get a lot more attention. No one is going to want to pass up the chance to call me a ******* when they read this thread.

Well I finished my box build for my 15 inch SSD today. Ran outside all excited thinking about a month and a half later I would finally get to hear my brand new sub!

I lift the box up push it into the trunk! PHEW thank god its not to high, Push a little more.......wtf it wont go in. the floor wont let me push the top down into the trunk, the trunk is plenty deep but the floor stops it from going in.

I tried everything I could think of even taking out the spare tire. Nothing worked. I am so disappointed and feel like a ******* right now. I was happy with the way the box turned out but I dont think I am up to making another one. It will now most likely be over a month before I get to hear my SSD. This truly *****

Can you take off the trunk latch? At the bottom where the trunk lid secures? Thats usually how I end up getting enclosures into trunks when space is limited.

edit- Is it sealed or ported? Could you lop off the bottom back of the box so its an angle, slide it in, and then glue on a piece of MDF over the cut edge to seal it back up? Just an idea for ya....

that suxs. Maybe find an area where you can cut the box clean all the way around, so you have like 2 half boxes, then use like 3" kleets and join it back together in trunk. idk,

i came very close 2 times doing that. so the thrid mdf box i built for my car was built inside my trunk. lol

have you tried this, remove the trunk floor board, remove the spare tire, remove the trunk lock latch, remove the trimming all around the trunk opening.
then slide the box in LONG ways. hopefully it will slip into the crater where the tire would be. at this point a smapp portion of the box should still be sticking out. well, here you have to push the box out a bit, enter the car and from the rear seats take the box and start turning and twisting it. you may be able to get it in.

question, what car is this and can we get pics of the opening and the box?

I always make a template of the side of the box and measure sure its going to fit before i build the box, Just a lil advice i guess a lil late now but may help in the future.

edzy

wtf talk about leaks galore.

If done properly, it wont leak. You would need to make a clean cut, then use cleats inside the box. say 2" on each side off the cut. glue and screw one side on. let dry. then assemble the box in side the trunk. Just as jour sliding it together, load the seam up with glue. join it, and screw it. then after its dry, caulk the seam from inside thru the sub hole. and bondo the seal outside. its a lot of work, but it can be done. Im not talking about using a jigsaw either. Like laying the box on a table saw and talking 3"-4" inches off one side to get it to fit.

Alternatively, use a table saw to take off what you need on one side to make it fit, then add a new side panal. it will be a smaller box, but thats who i see it.

I dont think the back of the trunk is even tall enough to fit the box at the very back it starts going up a bit.

civicman07

I did this exact same thing. hahaha. it *****! Except I did it with two 15's in a ported box. And I built the entire box first (routered edges, sanded, and painted it, even dropped the subs in) ...then found out it didnt fit.

Im good at fitting big things in small places but after workin it for 2 hours I said **** it.

civicman07
06-18-2008, 06:11 PM
I think u should take out ur seats completely, take all the trim out behind the seat and if u have to cut a lil of the bracing, not sure how big ur trunk is but i got a 95 honda civic and the box for my one 15" fi Q is 16 tall, 30 wide, and 20 deep and i got mine to fit in my trunk.

Seattle206
06-18-2008, 06:13 PM
And I found the easiest solution when the trunk is too small is buy a car with a bigger trunk. The box will fit, I guarantee. Elementary math

use external aero ports for your new design. they would give you more internal volume and you dont have to install them until your box is in your trunk already

if you do decide to build a new box. build it to the required space range and tunning needed for the sub. don't go any lower. then just build the box in the trunk. it is not at all hard to do when your making just a basic ported box like that. now if you were building one for an 18 then i could see some issues.

Seriously, if you can cut some of the bracing behind the seats and have the seats still attach your golden.

Sawzall will do this with ease, think about how much time your gonna spend on a new box, then think about how easy it is to pull the back seats and cut the metal lip off a Little higher?

Otherwise try to find some one local to buy that box from you so its not a tottal loss and get to building somethign new..

Just make it shorter and wider so you can shove it in through the back. Measure the max dimensions of the rear seat opening and start plugging numbers into the RE calculator. That will give you a design and cutsheets and it's free.

I would seriously do a template of the side of the box and make sure its going to fit before building it. Its only takes a minute or 2 to make a template out of cardboard or something to make sure its going to fit, will solve alot of headaches! Make sure u use the template on the far side of ur trunk where the side of the box would actually go in.
