Well figured I'd start a build thread, maybe it will keep me motivated. Building for daily but have a deadline of the 29th of this month for a bassrace comp comin up. Hopin to run the 139 class. Here's whats goin in:

Kenwood DDX812 (already installed w/sirius)
Boston Pro 60's
Boston Type-M imaging kit
AQ HDC318
AQ 2200
Kicker 550.2 for the 60's and imaging kit
Epicenter
Knu Krystal RCA's
~45ft of Knu Fleks 1/0
2 bulk packs of dynamat
~30ft of SS Damp pro
2 sheets of SS overkill pro (Doors if it fits)
2 sheets of SS luxory liner pro (back wall)
BJfisher box - 5.75 @ 38 with 92sq in of port
Mean Green 200amp alt
Yellowtop front, two powersonic batts in the back (HC600 clones)
Custom metal frame in the extended cab boarded up and carpeted

So far the deck is installed, big 3 is done, power wire and rca's ran, metal frame built/installed, truck torn apart, speaker wire ran. Unfortunately I'm busy all weekend but the deadening starts Monday :D

Everything is going in this:

Backseat ripped out:

Metal frame I have boards cut for, just need to carpet them:

Molex's with wire, molex's eat moose cawk:

Thats all for now, hopefully some progress pics to come soon.

I think I should be good on time, deadening is my biggest hurdle left and it shouldn't be too bad. Already had the MG alt installed once and it had the wrong regulator in it, they said they would rush the fix and get it right back out to me though to make sure its back before the 29th.

Having a date sure helps to motivate me on builds...usually I drag ***.

How much did all that metal cost you, did you buy it as scrap or brand new. I know metal prices went up like hell over the last few months.

Had a suspension/fab shop build the rack. It was 215 for parts and labor. I couldn't pass it up. Its all flat and level and bolts in the existing mounts from where my back seat mounted. Had I attempted it, it would have looked alot different (shittier)

not a bad price, im sure the price of material costed at least half of that. Id try something similar but i dont have even a few inches to spare =/.

Although I might need to make some bracket that goes into the factory bolts to keep my box in place.. hmmm

Looks really good and sure is a nice truck. I'm guessing there will be no rear seats in this instal? I totally know what you mean about setting a date and getting it done, so far any work I have done has been slower than molasses going up hill on a cold winter morning, good luck with the rest of the work, and I'm looking forward to the next installment of pics.

Yup, no rear seats. I bought the truck with stereo and not passengers in mind

Work has me slammed today so I wasn't able to start on the deadening, BJ got the box done and shipped though so I better get busy:

There ya go, and to me I thought the new regular cabs had MORE than enough room for a killer system (least when it comes to regular cab trucks.) I don't know many passengers that will want to ride around with you with that thing at full tilt anyways.

It won't be goin full tilt often anyhow. Only times that'll happen is at shows and for the occasional highway cruise when I want to rock out with the windows down at 85 :peace:

Well not much of an update, work is still keeping me busy. Got about 3 sheets of mat on the outside door skin, will be doing the inside and outside of the inner door skin tomorrow, then its over to the drivers side.

Alt showed up from the regulator swap at mean green, will throw that in tomorrow and make sure that all works out. Well onto some boring pics and a crappy soundfile for the sound difference between the undeadened and the deadened door:

http://img181.imageshack.us/img181/853/deadening001bn1.jpg

Lots of trim panels and a bunch of mat backing garbage:
http://img183.imageshack.us/img183/991/deadening002lf9.jpg

Crappy sound file, doesn't do it justice:
http://www.zshare.net/audio/1378453754057c05/

More pics tomorrow with hopefully alot of mat on the inside skin of the door. I'll be able to seal up all of it except around the interior door handle...got some thinkin to do on how thats going to happen.

Got the alt in and no more error codes, looks like mean green got the right regulator in this time so thats all taken care of.

Almost got the passenger side door done. Needs a few more chunks of mat and then a layer of overkill...then onto the drivers side. Once the drivers side door is done its pretty much smooth sailing from there. Deaden the backwall and start putting stuff together to take a test listen :D

Oh yeah, the BJ box showed up today as well...looks great. Its a tad heavy, I thought I was skinny until I saw the DHL guy. He had to ask me to help him take it out of the truck

The tweets come off the mid and mount in cups or pods just like every other component setup. The tweets are goin in the stock location in my door panels then I have the boston imaging tweet set comin that will go up in the A-pillar.

Another bulk pack of dynamat just showed up, not sure when I'm going to find the time but hopin to deaden the rear doors before the 29th as well...we'll see what happens.

I'd recommend anybody doing new f150 doors to go with regular overkill and not overkill pro. I think I took a few years off the life of my door hinges by hanging on the door panel trying to get it to lock down over the foam :/

Tore the back apart a little more, I'm taking tomorrow off to work on it so expect a layer or two of mat and some overkill on it tomorrow. I'm also going to try and relocate my stock security/alarm brain from the backwall to behind the rear side panel:

http://img32.picoodle.com/img/img32/4/6/26/f_moar002m_5a8e45d.jpg

The front stage should sound nice when I'm done...I'm not expecting alot for sound quality out of the 18, mostly just loud. For daily driving the gain knob will most likely be pretty darn low though.

its like night and day how loud those stupid little cab vents can be when you uncover them. I had my back seat folded down with the rear beauty cover removed and it sounded like I had a window open. I heard conflicting reports or ears poping or even issues when the airbags go off and other stupid things when the vents are sealed up, but also many people doing it without any issue. For mine I just trimmed the lower part down and boarded up over them

Its amazing how much noise comes through those. I think there is a vent in the passenger side footwell too, that one won't be getting sealed up.

I sealed up the cab vents on my s10 with no issues. Being a smoker though most of my time cruising is with the window cracked a bit so the vents are kind of pointless anyhow.

I really hate that the vents are installed from the bed side, and it doesn't appear they can come out without taking the bed off. Guess they'll be getting cut out then deadened over. About to head out for an uninterrupted day of work on it. Took the day off as long as nothing urgent comes up at work I should be set.

jdc753
06-27-2008, 11:19 AM
Yea I had read some places where they said to remove them and install them backwards to get some more room along the back wall, but when I looked at it with my truck I couldn't get them out before hitting the bed, I would cut em out and seal them up before I yank the bed just for those little suckers. I'm sure you could just under the 6 bolts and slide the bed back and inch or 2 and have the room you needed to remove them but its not that big of a deal.

Today's gonna be a good day tater. Have fun and make sure to take plenty of pics.

Progress:

Used to be a cab vent here:

Roof flashing cut to cover:

Metal matted on both sides and screwed in place:

While working on the truck a bird decided to fly over and **** on my sill plate....homo bird!

http://img34.picoodle.com/img/img34/4/6/27/f_moar008m_0adc7f1.jpg

Had some leftover overkill pro so it got rammed in every orifice in the back:

http://img34.picoodle.com/img/img34/4/6/27/f_moar009m_66f94e5.jpg

Backwall all shiny with 1 to 2 layers of mat on it:

http://img34.picoodle.com/img/img34/4/6/27/f_moar010m_dded9d6.jpg

And last a layer of overkill on the backwall, if the overkill works 1/2 as good as it looks it will be awesome. Really like applying the stuff, before the foil tape on the seems it almost looked to good to cover up:

http://img34.picoodle.com/img/img34/4/6/27/f_moar011m_307f118.jpg

Its fukn hot and I'm drippin sweat, really wish my truck fit in the garage still. Oh well time to carpet some boards, mount some batteries, paint a box and get ready to hook it all up tomorrow and take a test listen.

The imaging kit and epicenter will probably wait for install until after the comp sunday, wanted to try the epicenter on a non rap song even if I had to do the 29.9 just for fun...haha

If your worried about your heat/air not blowing enough because of pressure just turn on the air recirculation button that just cycles the air through the cab without venting it (the one that comes on automatically when on max a/c). I'm lookin for pressure in the cabin so they had to go.

I ran my s10 for about a year with the cab vents sealed and never noticed any problems. I think alot of people are afraid to mess with their trucks, I've done things with this truck I will regret way before regretting sealing the cab vents (like sealing the doors to where when I have the power window problems I know I will down the road it will be a PITA).

Oh ****, you have dynamix II in your avatar....I didn't think anybody else listened to them. I still have one of their old *** cd's around somewheres.

Well crap im going to seal mine tomorrow.. My back wall looks just like yours but with the vents on both sides. Wont be a problem to fix that issue. Funny you should mention power window problems. My doors are sealed with 8's in the front. Just got done today ripping my second skin off, then taking the sheet metal off that i sealed the doors with. This is the second window to do this. The cable around the motor pulley gets ate up to hell. This happens all the time on these trucks. I tried every parts store and online and couldnt find the right one. Had to spend $170 for the motor and regulator at ford. The parts guy says this is a very popular part around here.bastards. Dynamix II is still around. I have all there vinyl and there still making wicked stuff for the clubs. Been djing there songs for over 10 years. There my favorite for electro bass. Gets the crowds moving on the floor

Well I coulda went all day without reading about your window problems

I'll tear into it and fix em once, if it happened twice I'd probably be pissed enough to sell the truck.

Yeah, I think I started listening to dynamix back in the early 90's when a caraudio mag recommended them for good bass. Just pulled out the Machine Language CD, will have to crank that up when I get this system done.

Machine language is there worst album imo. It only has 5 or 6 tracks. Get Bass Planet, The Album, or , You Hear You Fear It. Nothing thats out now beats those classics. There still making killer tracks but you can only get them on wax. I see them on live p.a. about twice a year. They dont play around. I had issues there as well so it got unbolted and came out in one piece with the bracket. This might help you do it smarter than I did though :D

Not mine, but the best I could find quickly. The two clips in the first gallery are probably what you are needing. Cram the screw driver in, push those clips back and you should be able to lift up on the seat back.

Well its done, but I didn't make it in time for the show. I woke up at 6am to finish it and noticed that my HO alt was laying on the ground....in a rush I screwed up and installed the stock alt

Only installed one of the little batts and with that and the mean green alt it holds 13.6 with the music cranked enough to intermittently hit the clip light on the AQ remote. Pretty happy with that situation.

So impressions, no tuning yet, its fuggin loud. The bostons get **** loud, tweets are bright and there could be more low/midbass but the drivers just don't take the power down low, have to cross them pretty high.

The AQ2200 and the HDC318 are a great combo. I listen to mostly rock and this thing straight jams on rock. Threw in a few rap songs and it gets down there too. Honestly I think the sub could take more powa, but I got the 2200 to where the remote would occasionally light the clip light and the sub hung in great. Will see how things go once the sub breaks in.

Deadening was well worth it, I can crank it up and its pretty quiet outside sealed up. I've got an hdc315 sittin here....already thinking about gettin it reconed to another 18 and picking up another 2200

Sweet, I bet the clips make sense now that you have them out and can see what they look like in person.

I'm about to go hit the record store and grab some batteries for the digicam as well. Don't expect anything clean from the pics to come, stuff just got thrown in as quickly as possible. I even have hot pink remote wire because thats all stupid home depot had when I went there last night for some other stuff

There may be a rear end rebuild shortly in the future when DJ gets some more 18 parts in though :D

I hear ya on the loud is never loud enough lol, I don't even have my subs yet and I am already toying with the idea of a fun build where I yank the back seat and just fill the back end with a box.

Ok, just took another listening session and another 18 may be totally unneccesary

Two good songs I've tried so far: Cinderella - bad seamstress blues, renewed as one of my favorite songs, the intro is so mellow and then when it comes on its just like hitting a switch. Eagles - Hotel California - what can I say, the drums are greeeeeat

I'm done listening and now have a headache (I'm old) here are some pics:

Pffft, I see tons of daylight back there and room to spair lol. 2 18's daily and just use a bass knob or something for when you don't want it blasting lol. Wall???? lol j/k

There is allllot of room back there. I really don't need two of these for daily though, one is overkill for daily. Wouldn't mind being able to throw a 2nd in for shows though...aslong as I make it to them, unlike today :crying:

Will only be steppin up a little in power, but the new box will be 8.5 cubes at 34hz. Going to try out one of IA's DP21's. Should be fun :)

Will probably be deadening the rear doors and maybe the rear floor in the process as well. Still have some luxory liner I want to try laying down to see what it does.

Would this design be better for putting up numbers in an S-10 than ports firing up and subs firing at the seat? I've seen this design implemented in a lot of trucks and I can't help but wonder if I need to change up the design to extract higher numbers from my setup.

Ive had people tell me, thats the best design in an ext cab truck for the meter. Personally, I like subs and port up at the window line. It lets the sub(s) load off of the roof. I guess port to the side does the same, though. If you do port on the side, mount the sub directly over the external port opening, though, so there won't be wasted space in the box.

Got it. Like I said, right now the box is built with the ports along the top firing at the roof and the woofers are firing at the back of the seats. Thoughts?

People won't be seeing it unless their in the truck. Its going to fire up and the top of the box will most likely be above most people's heads if their standing outside the truck. I thought about firing it up or to the side but I'm afraid of the screws not holding the sub in when I get rough with the truck.
