Well the weekend is near and I thought I would get started a little early.
This will be 4 15" IA Death Rows with 2 HK4000d's and 1 maxxlink.

http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn293/audioarsonal/IMGP1746.jpg
Here are the subs and amps together.
I plan on doing a wall slightly behind the b-pliar to retain some recline for trips and things:)
The box will be approx. 16ft^3 with 190in^2 of port. And tuning will be any where from 35-40, but I haven't decided.
Here are some pics of the vehicle..

http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn293/audioarsonal/IMGP1750.jpg
I started by removing the rear seats
http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn293/audioarsonal/IMGP1753.jpg
Then I fastened a piece of 2x3 with a couple of carage bolts to the body so the box will be secure.

After that I built it up so the top would be level with the rear cargo area.

Then I added some strapping to brace the "wall" horizontily

I also added a piece of wood to the center cause it had a little wobble if you pushed it back.http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn293/audioarsonal/IMGP1758.jpg

Yeah its served me well. Its the v6 so its not to bad on gas.But after I put all this **** in I'm sure my MPG will go way down:(

blackbonnie
05-22-2008, 09:35 PM
yeah thats the only reason i went with my silverado is because the gas was very similar for the one i wanted and i would have rather had the versatility of a truck

Well stay tuned. This weekend I will be building the majority of the box.

Thanks guys.I just did a little tonight to get me in the mood for this weekend.Gonna be some long days.
I plan on doing double wall all around. So it will be twice the work.Lots of screwing:)
Just got some new clamps from HF as well so I get to try them out!

It's an inline-6...sorry, fellow WJ owner here. Good luck running wires to the rear...pain in the ***.

audioarsonal

^^^You are correct..As for wires I haven't had any problems yet. However I'm sure 3 or 4 runs of 1/0 will be more of a challenge.

What are you doing electrical wise? Those amps are power hogs..

audioarsonal
05-23-2008, 07:19 AM
Electrical consists of 1 Iraggi 300a alt 2-3 runs of 1/0 and 4 deep cycle batteries(will be buying 2 more)plus the one under the hood.
I have been running my 1 hk for about a year now with just 2 batteries and the alt and haven't seen less then 13.1-4v at full volume.
I have the electrical to back these amps.

.::DuD3::.
05-23-2008, 07:50 AM
Just curious, but fellow wj owner here as well. Where are you making your runs of 1/0 through the firewall? I only need enough room for 1 run. Also, where did you ground the amp, I was going to ground the amp at the battery, but if theres a good spot in the trunk, I'll do it there.

audioarsonal
05-23-2008, 09:47 AM
I drilled a whole in the firewall on the passenger side. That is how I ran most of my power wires for the last 12 years.Just easier then trying to find a spot that is useable. However if there is one(rubber graumet) and will work with the wire I am running then I'll use that.
As for the ground I use one of the rear seat bolts that I cleaned up as the ground.I am still debateing on using this for this application or if I should run a full ground wire.
If you look at one of the pics you can see where I am talking about. It is the piece of black wire wire I attached the strapping to.

Since I've also had 4 15's in my Jeep, I'll make a suggestion. Keep the port in the middle of the box and not along the bottom. Try and keep the subs as close to the front also.

Like this:
http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l125/contourSPL/092307_17381.jpg
I could set off car alarms on a regular basis with only being powered by 2200 watts.

This box is way louder than my enclosure with the slot port along the bottom. I've also spoke to some competitors about having the subs closer to the front worked better in a Jeep. Anywho, good luck on the build.

audioarsonal
05-23-2008, 11:08 AM
Thanks I will keep that in mind.I have done quite a few boxes for this jeep.Subs up ports back, subs back port back, subs forward ports back.I have heard subs back port back was hte way to go in these with the port just off the rear hatch.Personally I like the subs back port back with alot of port area.
However in this build I am doing a wall just behind the b-pilar.Trying for hair tricks:)

audioarsonal
05-23-2008, 07:23 PM
Well I got a little more done today.First I picked up a piece of MDF to start the box part of the build.
http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn293/audioarsonal/IMGP1761.jpg
http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn293/audioarsonal/IMGP1762.jpg
Got these new clamps yesterday.48" aluminum clamps from HF on sale.
Got a couple corner clamps as well.
http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn293/audioarsonal/IMGP1763.jpg
These things are life saver when working alone.
http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn293/audioarsonal/IMGP1764.jpg
Got the bottom part of the box cut out and seeing if it will fit.
http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn293/audioarsonal/IMGP1765.jpg
Then I cut the top pieces and got them to line up.
http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn293/audioarsonal/IMGP1773.jpghttp://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn293/audioarsonal/IMGP1771.jpg
http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn293/audioarsonal/IMGP1769.jpg
After that it was on to pre drilling and glueing the 2 pieces together

Hoping tomorrow to get the sides and back built. So should have some good progress pics.I keep debating on if I should just do the double baffle like the rest or a triple?I will be using all thread for some bracing and 2x3 for others.

I asked the guy to cut me 2 pieces at 29".I egt home and look what I ended up with!Good thing I anticipated them being off.I really needed it at 28".I only had them cut the wood was to make it more managible for me.Since I am doing this on my own pretty much.

But theres a problem when i tried to fit the top in it wouldn't fit!
So I had to cut 1" off it to make it work.....

Definately do it, with the power your running I think it would be safer to run a full length ground.

Oh and I have the same table saw :p:

audioarsonal
05-25-2008, 09:05 AM
I wasn't getting much voltage drop at the amp using the frame ground. However things may change. With the old setup I was getting some killer impeadance rise(probably from the box) so the current draw wasn't tremendous. But I think with the bigger box that might change a little.
Has anyone noted any differance when switching from a frame ground to a full length?
Keep in mind I will also be running a battery bank in the rear of the vehicle as well as the sock battery location.

I made a minor adjustment and opened the port up even further then originally planned

:):):):):):):):):):)
Atleast enough to get sound out of it.
OMG this thing is rediculious.........First I started with no portwall and it was loud.I added a port wall to drop the tuning and now it kills.Still tuned kinda high.I'm gonna say mid 50hz is what its peaking at.My jeep likes around 49-51hz so I need to drop it a little more.
The box isn't complete I still need to T&T then I will finish it up with a trim ring and grey carpet on the back of it

I worked on the electrical side a it this week.Since I can't do any testing till the weekend I thouht I would put in some of the 1/0 I got from Kent(thanks).
I ran two runs of positive for now to the back.I didn't have any voltage drop from front to rear after doing both runs so I should be fine for now.
FIrst pic
http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn293/audioarsonal/IMGP1807.jpg
Here are the 2 runs coming through the fre wall on the passenger side. This is the usual place I try to run most of my power wires on any vehicle.Unless there is a groumet or the battery is on the driver side.
http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn293/audioarsonal/IMGP1808.jpg
Here you can see them runnin along the floor board. With the 2 runs it is a little harder to get the carpet to set right. However I was able to make it almost disappear.
http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn293/audioarsonal/IMGP1809.jpg
Here I ran it out the latch spot where the seat used to be.I was able to get 2 runs out of 25ft no problem.:p:

Here is the fuse block under the hood.I had to modihy it a bit seems how it was for 2 4ga wires.;)

Here you can see the wires tied together and routed away from the engine to prevent them from melting(has happened to me in the past.)Sometimes I wrap it with some scrape deadener with the aluminum backing for exra insurance.

On to the alt.this is the connection to the post on the back.

And here is the Iraggi Alt I got.Its got a custom machined pulley made of aluminum. This lightens the weight by about half.

lookin good

i have that same table saw :)

whats the relay for in the back? remote wire?

Yep,I like to use them when running alot of things that require a switched source. And with these HK's they don't like to see low voltage on the remote input.

Well, I got to do SOME testing and tuning today.I am very pleased with the box and output.I installed the second amp and got them all wired up.
First let me tell you this testing was done with lil jon's "throw it up" as I didn't have a test tone cd on me or avalible at the time.
So I guess you would call these numbers off music and not a test cd.However I will get a cd and do real testing with actual test tones.
Now on to the results.I stopped the cd just prior to the very first bass drop on the song right around the 56-57sec mark.I paused it set the volume to 30/62.First test I did was with 1 amp wired to 2 ohms.I burped the song for about 2-3 sec and got a reading of 148.4.Did it a sec time and got 149.2.After that I hooked up 2 subs on each amp wired at 1 ohm. Then I repeated the same test exactaly as before.First burp I got a 150.8.Reset the song and did a 50.9.After that I moved a couple things around then did it again.151.2DB!!!!
Now keep in mind these results are from burping a song not a test tone but it is results!I will continue with making small changes to the box(rounding corners, bracing, port, etc)
Any suggestions are welcome.

God its been a while since I posted up in this thread!!SORRY....
Anyway, I've been working like crazy for the last couple weeks getting things ready for Slamology!!Haven't had time to snap pics along the way. However I have gotten a lot done since the last photo's.Did some MORE bracing as the **** was flexing like crazy!!!Built the trim panel around the outside to seal it off. Also re-did the wiring inside the box cause it kept rattling inside on certain notes.
I need to get up some vids but my I can't figure out how to format it to work on my computer from my camera.I had one but it didn't work.
And this is just with 1 amp!!I found out a couple of my batts are about dead so its time for new ones.
I will get some vids today and try and post them......

Well I still can't figure out how to upload a **** video.I can't even get it to play on my computer!!!However I did get a couple shots of the somewhat finished product.I still plan on covering it but its a "wall" now fo sho'!:DIt was kinda a ***** to build the panels and get the contours all correct. But I managed after a few different trys at it.
Well on to some pics...

Here is the backside of the panel braced up so it doesn't flex too much.

Here I made the speaker connections convient.Never done it this way but it seems to work. And its alot easier then messing with twisted wires and such.

And this is where the amps go.Just got one running for now as a daily. After I get some newer batts I will be running both amps daily!!

Well thats about all for now.I have a meet coming up this weekend so I will get numbers and more pics then.Hopefully someone that knows how to make a vid will make one for me a the comp and post it up.

Thanks to Josh and Nick at IA for some great subs.:D

Wasn't there a thread a while back, that I can't seem to find where they did numerous tests with 8g-16g speaker wire and only to find little to no difference?

Id either spread the terminals out on the box or insulate them somehow. If any of those bolts loosen up and allow a terminal to fall over on its side, you could possibly have a problem...

audioarsonal
06-26-2008, 07:23 AM
I have a lock bolt so they shouldn't move.I might even throw on a nylon threaded bolt. But I don't think they will move.

It's still not ideal.I have some new wire that I just need to install when I get a min.
Picked up some new batteries as well.:D

Going to a 2x this weekend so I will have a certified score for everyone!Got in alittle testing and things are looking VERY promising.:)

Well I have had these in now for a couple months now, and couldn't be more pleased with them. They are well built subs that sound awesome! They have those commanding lows that just shake everything, but still remain very transient for SQ.I would say the 1000rms is slightly under the handling of this sub especially with the ADC design. But if your looking for an awesome SQ/SQL sub then look no further then the Death Row line at IA.
