I wanna hear some thoughts about this. A freind of mine is trying to talk another freind to put his tweeters in his air vents because it acts like a horn...Im not sure if he's going to do it but I had never heard of doing this before.

discuss..

Yes, it has been proven many times that air vents = horns.

I've done this back in the early days.....It would get you creativity points in car audio competitions....when they use to Judge on installation and SQ....plus a lot of vehicles the corner vents are in a good location....

The vents can direct the sound

So what, did you cut off the air to those vents?

the back of the tweeters is sealed...the air would still flow around them...I'd use the surface mount brackets in the center of the vent...there would be some restriction of flow but overall worked fine

my freind said air still blows through just fine...I'll have a build log on here for his truck and we'll try to air vent idea. Im really curious to see the difference in sound output.

what about condensation?
i know some peoples AC blows cold as **** (not like mine :( ) and some condensation builds up around em.

Or heat in the winter. I'd guess the hot air is at least 120-130 deg in the air ducts. Cant be good for a tweeter..

condensation=water

water ruins electronics.

that a good answer?

I think that they would be fine. I have seen a lot of people custom fab vents to house things like boost gauges and such, not quite the same thing but they don't really restrict air flow too much, look nice, and haven't seen any problems as far as electronics and such go.

depends on how far back you mount them ..... I would think the air blowing around the tweeter would interfere with the sound waves (not scientific, just a thought)
