Question on box volume

I'm trying to put 2 DD 3512 E's in a custom ported box built to specs. My question is I was wondering would it make a difference if I use minimum volume compared to max ie: 3.5 cube compared to 4 cubes. Would it make a difference in sound? aka would 4 cubes hit harder than 3.5 if they're both built to specs? Either one would be tuned to 40hz

"hit harder" and "loudness" are two different terms.

40 hertz is an spl tune
It will do good on the meter but sound like *** to the ear
It does in my opinion anyway.
