i dont feel like ordering carpet and having to pay for shipping and wait. could i use felt from the local fabric store? not the thiner kind but some decently thick stuff. i just dont want whatever i get to rip on the edges.

If they don't have auto carpet, just use whatever the toughest feeling and/or best looking fabric they have is.

Walmart has black/beige/gray unbacked auto carpet. Pretty easy to use.

Menards in my area had auto carpet for sale. Porsche black and Lambo gray, on sale for $.35 per cubic foot, or normally for $.45 per cubic foot. Nice thick stuff too.
