View Full Version : Alpine, 2V Pre-Outs....why? Oh why?
Trepkos

Does this really make a difference? Why does Alpine limit the normal 4v pre-outs to their higher-end(400+ USD) models?
I was actually considering getting one due to all of the praise that the brand of head units has...

why? so that you'll buy the more expensive ones.

Why would I do that when I can buy another proper HU with 4v pre-outs...like Jensen or Dual.

Alpine is trying to keep the price down on the lower end models so they'll sell well at Best Buy. In order to do that, they're 86ing the features that the average consumer won't notice, i.e. 4v preouts and such.

Not that big of a deal.
2V is more than ample to drive pretty much any amp on the market to full power output.

Pioneer FTL- their head units have that nasty ground problem.
Eclipse FTL- CD problems
Alpine FTL - Units gone to crap
Kenwood FTL - History of being unreliable.
Clarion FTL - Their head units are ugly as sin.

The cd players quit and swallow up the cds. I had to send mine in for repair and heard about it happening to mostly all their units.

yes a pioneer may have a grounding problem, but it is due to installer error!! if you do not ground the chassis the pico will blow....if you are not careful when removing rca's you will pop the pico
I agree with jman....all have their issues

I think my clarion is okay looks-wise, but it completely contrasts my dash, since it's aluminum and my dash is black plastic. The 775USB, though, looks like a turd from a robot.

in all honesty, how much of a difference would it be having a HU with 2V pre's compared to a HU with 4+ preouts?

only difference would be the gain on your amp would be up higher. But that's about it
dannyz122001
05-08-2008, 04:38 PM
so by setting the gains higher to compensate for the difference, the 2V will have the same SQ as a 4V?

The best thing about my nakamichi is that it looks stock to the untrained Thief... nah... the best thing would be the SQ, right now it makes my stock speakers sound like god... can't wait to get the PG's on my SAX 100.4 with the deadener, can't even imagine the difference it makes.
Plus the illumination choices match my gage cluster... can't beat green and amber... lol I will admit it looks pretty ugly, but it beats out those annoying BB headunits with like the ****ing dolphins jumping around everywhere

Weird, is this mainly on the newer unit? I've used a 8443 and a couple of 8053's with no issues at all.

I run a 8V deck because it comes with the features I need as well. The fact that it has 8V pre-outs is just a bonus...high end decks in general have better features and better components than their low-end counterparts, so you're buying a lot more than voltage.
