View Full Version : Nice decent sound without subs?

FAM4LIFE

Looking to get a nice clean sound(Tight Budget :() in my truck without subs. I want to keep the space under my seats so I will not do any subs for now. Was looking at going with an Active two-way and since this is the first time that I will attempt to piece this together, I wanted to know what you consider as a good two-way front stage.

Speaker Budget: $150 total

I don't have a clue on what tweets to get. I only know that the dash currently holds 2" tweets.

So far I'm looking at the following 6.5s for the door:

Mach 5

The 6.5 CVT is a subwoofer but capable of playing as a mid.

ok so its limited at mid range. Which is why I'm asking for feedback? Know of any other 6.5 mid-bass speakers I can compare? I orginally was going to put the CVTs in my back door and then run 2-ways up front, but I've changed my mind once again.

An amp is a must if he is running active, is it not?

Yeah. I'm going to get an amp too but first I need to figure out what speakers I'm running. Plus I need to find a decent double din H/U.

This is going in a Titan by the way. There is plenty of mounting space upfront without mods.

Ok. After more research, I've come up with the following:

I need a 6.5 speaker that can cross into both mid bass and mid range territory. This will ensure a good blend with the highs and should work for an active 2-way.

The CVT is out due that it caps at 350hz.

The Mach 6.5M series seems to be a good mid-bass type speaker but lacks a tad in the mid range. Seems to be perfect for 3-way.

The Peerless seems to have that range I'm looking for...58-2500hz.

Now I'm not sure but I have narrowed it down to the two. Heres the combinations that I am considering now for my set-up:

1.
Mach 6.5M $72(2) shipped and the Peerless 830970 2" Full Range $43.81 (2) shipped......This combination should give me a good blend and the peerless should be able to help out in the mid range area. This would be similar to the current sound set-up of the Titan's factory front stage. $115 total

2.
Peerless 831870 $46.16 (2) shipped and the Seas 27TFFNC/G (H1396) 1" $72.61 (2) shipped....This combination should work as well. Since the Peerless covers both mid-bass and mid-range frequencies fairly well, I figured a true tweeter should be fine. $118.77 total

You didn't look at the dayton rs180s?

FAM4LIFE
05-08-2008, 10:58 AM
I did. Sorry I didn't resond to those. If I were going with subs they would surely be in the running as well. I'm looking to put alittle more power to the mids so basicly power handling ruled them out.

You are gonna need an active crossover and a 4channel amp, or 2 two channel amps.

Maybe active isn't best suited for you and your 150$, unless the 150 is for drivers only.

You are gonna have to cross over any mid woofer if you plan on running large amounts of power to them and that defeats the purpose of having a mid that will get down low.

You may just want to invest in a small sub that is easily hidden under a seat or behind it.

I would suggest you have a plan from the begging, know what you are gonna buy and when, just don't piece things together or the probability is you wont be happy with it.

The $150 was for speakers only. I'm only running between 80-125 watts to the mids so I don't see why that wouldn't work still.

benchambers80

I'm still here. Try running 120 watts to a mid playing a 30 hertz sine wave, not good. Depending on what you listen to you may end up bottoming out the mid and damaging the former or mis aligning the coil.

you could also look at these for mids with that seas tweeter. then pick up maybe a 6.5" sub(s) to enclose in the back doors or one under a seat...

Have no reason to play a 30hz sine wave. I'm pretty good with volume control as well.;)

I'm at work! All I am saying is that you will need to run a crossover if you want to give a mid that much power.

I don't know how much bass you expect out of a little 6.5 woofer but it seems you are shooting for deep bass and it isn't very realistic.

No chance of you running a small ported woofer somewhere in the vehicle?

He doesn't want subs, and if he did I wouldn't reccomend edud.

I would reccomend something small with large xmax that can handle power and works well in a small sealed enclosure.

I know he doesnt want subs...I was just putting it out there because Im not sure he can achieve what he wants but I could be wrong....he doesnt want to lose any room and a 6 1/2" sub wouldnt take up much room and will pick up what the mids lose..

Thats cool, Its just he wants good sound, that means a good comp set crossed over low 60-80hz and a subwoofer.

And I dont reccomend garbage, I mean edud.

just because you dont like ed doesnt mean their garbage....many people on here have been very satisfied with their products..Im not going to start an argument about this but for $100 shipped he would be satisfied if hes just looking for something to produce some bass and not take up barely any room.

FAM4LIFE

Subs in a enclosure are out of the picture right now. I'm not looking for a front stage that will provide the full sound system effect. Just a good sound that is to be expected from a front stage. I'm not too concern with the low end right now.

However I am still considering actually putting some nice 6.5 subs in the back door. I can't even tell the factory speakers are there now because of the factory front stage, so why not just put the subs there. I got a Galant and a Tahoe as well so I plan to keep my Titan nice and simple.

Running active is advanced but if you really want to you should do some searches and read up.
DIY band wagon is the dayton seas combo.

You could put subs back there but you should really deaden the doors, alot, and find some IB capable 6.5's or larger if you want to start cutting **** up.

I got my mind pretty much made up. I've been researching and gathering ideas for well over a year now. Issues outside of car audio have prevented me from coming up with a clear decision but I'm about ready to final do something with this truck.

Oh yeah...."You ain't said nothing slick to a can of oil."

Well the Peerless and Seas came in two days ago.

I'll be getting my H/U and amp tomorrow.

Pioneer 880prs
Tsunami DB4440

Now I need to find some subs for the back doors.

Considering the CVTs or the W3 6.5s. Plus I still need to find a nice little 200-400wrms class D amp.
