sub firing down?

Is it a good idea to fire the sub downwards into the spare tire compartment? there hole will be like half open so the sound waves could escape but where should the port/vent be firing? backwards or forwards? this is going into a cavalier btw.

I would fire the port to the rear. I don't know how down firing the sub will affect output. I down fired my RE SX and I didn't notice a difference. You want be sure that there is enough clearance between the sub and the surface.
