Well, I decided to build another big system. I have regretted getting rid of my 16v system with 18" MT's since the day I took it out. So, Im back!

This time around Im going to run 12v and keep the wattage down(for now). We'll see what happens.

I gutted the interior and threw down another layer of deadener. Ive been meaning to do this for a long time, just never got around to it. While the interior was out, I rewired everything stereo related, and I mean everything. I made it nice and neat, so I wont ever have to touch it again. I still need to run the 1/0 under the truck, I just didnt have time today. Here's some pics:

Deadener finished finally:

Ready to rewire!

RCA's, remote and speaker wire finished:

Started on the box today as well. I just need to find out the cutout diameter for the MJ's so I can finish the baffle. Once that is done I will use dupli-color bedliner on the box, like I have in the past.

My workspace...OUTSIDE the garage. I hate MDF sawdust, it goes everywhere.
http://img2.putfile.com/thumb/4/12022470893.jpg (http://www.putfile.com/pic/8075624)

Everything cut and ready to go:
http://img2.putfile.com/thumb/4/12023154724.jpg (http://www.putfile.com/pic/8076010)

Getting there...
http://img2.putfile.com/thumb/4/12022470870.jpg (http://www.putfile.com/pic/8075627)

Almost....
http://img2.putfile.com/thumb/4/12022470876.jpg (http://www.putfile.com/pic/8075628)

All sealed up:
http://img2.putfile.com/thumb/4/12022470887.jpg (http://www.putfile.com/pic/8075630)

That's all I have for now. Sorry for the last couple of pics, my phone hates night pics.
Hopefully tomorrow I can finish up the baffle and get some dupli-color on it.
Stay tuned for updates!

Btw, big thank you to RyanM923 for the box plans!!

Well, it's done minus the bracing that I will do tomorrow.

Lines drawn for subs:

Cutting sub holes:
http://img2.putfile.com/thumb/5/12120192221.jpg (http://www.putfile.com/pic/8080364)

Everything rounded, sanded and filled:

http://img2.putfile.com/thumb/5/12120192295.jpg (http://www.putfile.com/pic/8080366)

Bedliner:
http://img2.putfile.com/thumb/5/12120192260.jpg (http://www.putfile.com/pic/8080368)

If you notice in that last pic, towards the middle of the box it looks like there is a slight bend. There is. When rounding the edges my router bit's bearing decided to fly apart in peices leaving the router digging into the back wall. I was EXTREMELY pissed because everything was glued, nailed, and dry. Tearing the back wall off would have ruined the box. So I had to improvise. The box is 1/4" lower towards the center, but at least I was able to save the box.
Ill be back with more updates!

Mach 5 recommends 4.5 cubes ported for the MJ18.

I havent decided on what wattage to run them at. It can push around ~3600 to them.

They wont like that. :fyi: MJ18's arent power hogs...they do what they do without tons of power. From my experience, I dont think they will take a whole lot over RMS... I can tell you for a fact that they wont take double the rms. :crap:

Random1010
05-10-2008, 02:07 PM
theres not much point in running over 1000 to them. for the mattter theres no point running over 900 to them. after that they just get hotter faster without any significant output gain.

massiveaudiocw
05-16-2008, 10:51 AM
Its dupli-color and you can get it at any auto parts store or even walmart. IMHO it does a pretty good job, not the best but decent stuff for the money. IMHO it doesnt hold up as good as any other bedliner on the market but its alot smoother then most. Once it drys it doesnt smell anymore.

You should try playing some good old hard rock in a system like that. It amazes me that you guys spend countless hours, thousands of dollars and blood and sweat and tears into a system and then play mindless crap-*** rap music on it. What a waste of equipment.
Try playing Metallica's One song and see how those double bass drums sound with your sub.

The MJ's don't have a hard time playing >50hz and doing it accurately...especially in the recommended size box. With mine I can cross them upwards of 120hz and they still have great response(of course, I don't leave it like, just an example).

In the box recommended by Mach 5 they don't have hardly any group delay, so quick passages come out really nice...18's don't have to be "slow." :D

Doh.. you already said that. I was just looking at the thumbnails and it looked like vinyl. Sorry.

What kind of battery are you getting? From what I've read recently, batteries like kinetics can only handle 14.3 volts and will fail if exposed to constant higher voltages . Also, I read that Powermaster batteries handle up to 15 volts, but I would still guess that the same thing applies if you exceed 15 volts. Heres a link. : http://www.soundsolutionsaudio.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=17479 If all of this stands true, those devices that up the voltage are trouble. :crap:

I have a YT up front and a batcap in back. If the batcap cant handle the voltage, it's gone and Ill pick up some more YT's or something that can, because I know the YT's actually benefit from the higher voltage.
