hey, this is my first post, so im obviously new to the site. im also a complete newbie at car audio. computers is my thing, but n e ways...i drive a 1997 Chevy Camaro 30th anniversary. small trunk space, and the back glass pretty much lays on top of the 2nd half of the car. i havent bought my system yet, but i am going to this week. ive come to the conclusion, that a 15" sub will rattle my back glass really bad if the sub is facing up....so im thinking that facing the sub towards the front of the car would be best (but will probably still rattle the back glass a little). like i said, i havent bought the system yet, and im a newb...but my friend knows a lot about this stuff and he's gonna help me install it all. he recommended this stuff and said that legacy audio isnt really HIGH quality stuff, but its good. here are the links to what im going to buy. i want to hear your advice/opinions please!!!

everything > legacy

Do yourself a favor and do some research on here and make a good setup first. You will pretty much waste money buying that junk.

check out soundsolutionsaudio.com for their mach5 products. The MAW 15" is only like $90 and will be 10000x better than your legacy sub.

check out knukonceptz.com for wires. They have a super cheap 4ga kit and its good quality product.

as for an amp i would look in the classifieds or seomthing. onlinecarstereo.com has a superb TMA 500.1 that would be a great match for the maw15.

also your going to want to face the subs up at the glass...no point in having a hatch back if your not going to use it. Ive done a few installs on camaros and the back glass isnt obnoxious at all.

btw which 30th anniversery do you have? white with orange stripes? If so make sure everything is done right, those are rare and beautiful cars. My buddy use to own two at the same time then sold one.

x542254 on all that said.... with the price of that stuff i see you have at least a $300 budget... you can definetly find a decent setup on here somewhere that'll make you a hell of a lot happier than legacy...

ok, ok, i get it...legacy is crap for quality.

soo, right now im looking at a kicker 15" but its only 1000w peak power....is that gonna thump hard???

and the 30th anniversary i have actually has red/black stripes down the sides of the camaro. and yes, its rare...i love it. its also got the 30th anniv. logo in the headrests. but anyways

i raise a new question to u guys...is a 15" 1000w kicker enough...cuz the only kinda of music i listen to is rap...and i want it to hit hard. another question....qhat kind of amp should i buy? my budget isnt exactly large...im trying to spend less than $400 on everything.

how do i make a box that sounds good?? i have every power tool u can imagine, but im not sure how to make a box that wont rattle and sound like crap. im sure theres a tutorial on here somewhere.

also, i have a read a number of posts talking about "the big3" or something like that. what is that? could someone explain please...and what do u guys have against capacitors??

the big 3 is re running the following
the wire from the alt. to the battery +
a new ground from the battery to the body
and a new ground from the motor to the body
you will want to use wire no smaller than 4ga., 0 or 1/0 would be the best.
as for the cap, sometimes they help, sometimes they dont. in most cases the big 3 will take care of most power needs. if for some reason you have a voltage spike and or drop problem, that is when a cap might help.
as an example, i have a bronco with a 75 amp alt and run a ppi 600.2 art at 2 ohms mono, and a fosgate 500x 4 ch. both these amps can draw up to over 100 amps togeather(at MAX output) and even with the a/c, headlights on my voltage never drops below 13.2v at idle and this is with underdrive pullies. i have the big 3 done and a cap.

Where are you putting the box? where the T tops are supposed to go? if so you will have some fun fitting a 15 right there. Not that its not possible...but I think you should look at two tens. My buddy used to have two type r 10s in I think a 3.5cu ft ported box where the t tops went. He metered in the low 140s with a crappy xplode amp. Type Rs are cheap and IMO suit your wants. There are plenty of other subs that will do the same or better though...

A type R and an Amp would get you up to that 400$ mark.. For just the sub and amp..

Then theres wiring, I'm hoping the HU isn't in this 400$ budget as well?

snfsh79077
04-28-2008, 07:36 PM
not sure about HU either but the type Rs will run close to 400 with an amp. Unless he went with one 12 and amp for like 300. He should search the classifieds for a single 12 or two tens. I personly think a 15 wont be worth the effort.

Well new.. 135$ for the R (12") and that gives you 260$ or an amp.. He could get the kicker 1000w amp.

snfsh79077
04-28-2008, 09:35 PM
he could get an amp though for less than 260 either used in the classifieds or a hifonics

There are plenty of good subs in the $100-150 range. My advice is do it right the first time, and you wont have to keep adding money on (unless you become addicted to caraudio)

My recommendation:
1 10" or 12" Alpine Type R (Dual 2ohm)- $130
1 of these http://www.cadencestore.com/ProductCart/pc/viewPrd.asp?idcategory=125&idproduct=382
1 of these http://www.knukonceptz.com/productDetail.cfm?prodID=KLM-K4
-As for a box, look into buying a decent MDF box. I know there are sellers on ebay who sell some decent MDF boxes for pretty cheap (around 50)

Wire the sub to 4 ohms... set ur gains right, and it should power that Type R quite nicely. No cap is needed, but running a Big 3 (look at the sticky) wouldnt hurt, so buy some extra 4 guage wire and a few terminals and screws. This should put you around your $400 mark. Of course there other options but this is my quick suggestion

I'm totally with CJ on this one.. Great setup at a great price.. Could even probably go with 2 CVR 10s (dual 4) and keep everything else the same

mmkay. well, i think im gonna go with two 12" type Rs. i mean, youre right, a fifteen would be a *****hh to fit in the back of the camaro. and my camaro isnt a t-top...its just going in the little *** trunk space

haha, the guys at one of the car audio shops around here (mobile millenia) told me theyd build me a custom box, gimme 2 12" memphis subs and a RMS 500w memphis amp, wiring, the whole deal for like $700...and thats givin me a deal. haha, i was like "**** off". i mean, im not sayin they were tryin to rip me off, but that store was a bit expensive.

im just gonna get a seperate battery for my system.

and the guys at mobile millenia said that it dont matter what i put in my car, its gonna hit hard as hell anyways, since camaros have those big *** hatchbacks.

they also said that it wouldnt rattle at all since the whole back comes up when i pop the trunk (not just the glass, but the spoiler n everything).

im looking at a kenwood 1000w amp right now.

http://www.soundsolutionsaudio.com/shop/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=106

could someone direct me to a (low priced) alpine type R 12" plz....i dnt know of many sites that sell subs for cheap prices.

again guys, im rly sry im a newb at all this...and thx sooooo much for helping me out with all this stuff. rly 'preciate it!!!

ebay for the type Rs and search the classifieds for an amp. Then get someone on here to build you a box.

NO! You want to look at RMS ratings... not MAX...

nvm I figured it out...yea what he said ^^

HEY woah woah woah..

Don't b to quick on getting two 12"s!!!..

A lot of people, buy two 12's but don;t have enough room! You will want a minimum of 2 cubic feet each, and you want it ported..

So you need quite a bit of space.. And you're saying a 15" would be a ***** to fit.. 2 12"s will be impossible.. One 12" in a 2.5 cubic foot box tuned to 32hz will be better than two in a 3 cubic foot box.

Also.. 2000w is a lot of power..

snfsh79077
04-29-2008, 12:08 AM
the 15 would only be hard to fit because the subs will be facing up and the compartment the box will be in wont fit a 15 in it.

snfsh79077
04-29-2008, 12:09 AM
I do agree, even though I believe 4 cuft can be obtained, go with two ten type Rs. You will be happy with that.

MAW-12 (http://www.soundsolutionsaudio.com/shop/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=205) $96

AP1000M (http://www.millionbuy.com/prfap1000m.html) $100

KOL-AK4 (http://www.knukonceptz.com/productDetail.cfm?prodID=KOL-AK4) $43

Find or make a 1.0 - 1.2 cf sealed box for the sub.

There's your $250-300 put to good use. ;)

2 types r's off a kicker zx1000 would do very well

Dlux
04-29-2008, 09:28 PM
okay. well, at the moment im thinking about what Deja wiz recommended. one-12" sub n that amp. only thing is, is mach5 audio (particularly the maw-12) worth a sh*t? is the profile amp worth a crap either???

snfsh79077
04-29-2008, 09:42 PM
yes mach5 has great subs. dont know about the amp though.

alright. if you havent figured it out, im an indecisive muthafuka. haha, ive made my mind up...im gettin ONE 12" memphis m-class sub and a memphis amp, plus this guys gonna build me a custom box. total its gonna run around $400...so thats good. and it all comes brand new with a 3 year warranty for no extra charge, n they said that if i didnt like the way it sounded or if i had any problem and wanted to upgrade or whatever, i could give the **** back to em, upgrade, and i would just have to pay the difference, so thats wasup.

thanks for the help guys, i was kinda close to buyin that legacy **** (haha, ive learned alot about car audio in the past week....and legacy = POS). haha.
