construction looks great but design looks a little flawed... port looks really small... might be the camera angle looks great though

Looks to be about 30 sq inches, if I were to guess. Should be fine given the small amount of volume in the box.

Plus, it gots the flares! ;)

mobeious

well the flare really has nothing to do with the sound of the box but if its 20+sq in of port it should work well

about 32sq inches of port area ...must be the camera angle...

you will never see me make an enclosure with too small of port area
all my enclosures have the same port Velocity with in 1%

Looks very nice!!!

BTW I noticed holes drilled in the kerf cuts, any particular reason for this practice?

anyways this is how I make my flares nice and solid

I use the holes to take advantage of
capillary attraction..the resin gets drawn in thru the
slits and the air bubbles come out thru the holes...
this ensures that the kerfs are 100% filled and rock
solid once the resin cures....

works better than any other way...glue shrinks and
leaves voids in the kerfs..this way does not[]

Ahhhh I see, so is resin more favored in doing this rather than wood glue?

This is bada**.

Is there a link to a guide to kerfing or anything like that?
I'm really interested. I wanna try it :x

I dont know if there is a guide to it, but it does take some practice... well alot. I just did my first kerfed box and I practiced on tons of scraps first.

Some things that I learned are that your spaceing has to be even with the cuts, and of course the obvious make sure the are straight. There are more I'll post up but im having a brain fart.

Kerfing really isn't that hard it just takes some patience...

what would a box like this go for?

mdillon
05-05-2008, 11:54 AM
how do you get the flare smooth? do you smooth it with bondo before paint. i put multiple layers of paint on mine and i can still see the creases where the mdf was bent.

it's not paint..it is more of a liquid plastic urithane:D

I believe you're the best I've seen at kerfing. You've got that box style perfected.

Wow. I've never seen anything like that. Us northerners are the biggest hacks you will ever see. We just don't see stuff like that up here.

So, obviously "Kerfing" is the rounding of MDF. Very impressive looking. What is the procedure for this? Do you just make the cuts and the MDF will hesitantly make the bend, or do you heat the wood to bend it? Then it looks like you used fibreglass resin to fill the cuts and strengthen the bend?

That is amazing man. Kudos to you for a box that nice.

essentially yes, i had to play around with the depth on the cuts. if its not deep enough you will break the mdf while bending it. although you can tell if its too stiff to bend. no heat involved.

where might i find this lovely stuff?
