this is the 2nd wall.

wall V1 ******.

for those of you that didnt see in the other thread,

i took the first one out. i really wasn't happy with it once i thought about it. this one, already with the false floor, is coming out alot better. the floor is 2 layers thick. the first layer is bolted with 1/2" x 2.5" bolts in the rear, and up front its tite bonded, and screwed to those 2x4's u see under there. the 2x4's themselves are also bolted to the body with the same bolts.

none-the-less, its very sturdy, and not gonna budge.

the 2nd layer is self explanatory, its to make is 100% level (to cover the bolt heads used to bolt the first layer down)

and to clarify, the cuts i made on the rear cross-member, to get those bolts in (still cant believe i did that) will be getting welded shut by my body shop soon. just wanna throw that out there, becuase i know someones gonna comment on the pic that shows those cuts lol...

anyways, pics-

btw- i havent decided on subs yet. or the exact style of box. im 95% set on doing a ported clam shell, i just gotta see how much space im working with.

cut the odd side pieces out. most of you will be confused, but im gonna get more done tomorow, and you will understand as the pictures progress, as to why its cut like it is.

sorta what im going to do tomorow. the sides will extend out with the side trim, thats why the side pieces are cut like they are.

louder than me?

i honestly hope that you are louder than me, but i doubt it.

:)

:eyebrow:

not much done today...by the time i got home from work it was 5ish, then had to go somewhere at 8 so....

ill do this to the other side tomorow probably.

does it sort of make more sense now as to why the sides are like that?

just to throw this out there, i AM fiberglassing the ENTIRE interior of the box for added strength, and to ensure is 110% air tight.

box = in for good.

glued/screwed it down to the false floor today.

the side panels are just sitting there, i havent put them in yet. gonna get the top piece cut before i screw those 2 window panels in. theres padding on the back as well, where it hit the window a bit.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v171/pimpedout92x/Mini%20Wall%20V2/DSCF2507.jpg

had a whole sheet of birch, and all i have left is the top/front/port, which wont be a whole sheet, so instead of 2x4s, i added a 2nd layer of 3/4" birch to the back, it made it very solid.

had to 2 piece it

hell, i like how the back is looking better than the front lol.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v171/pimpedout92x/Mini%20Wall%20V2/DSCF2512.jpg

also, as far as all the 90 degree angles inside the box go....im going to round them all before i fiberglass the entire interior of the box, but the box will be complete before i do so. also, i just want to test the box without glass/rounding the edges, and see how it sounds, and go from there.

I cant lie, I didnt think that it was a good idea to put all this in a relative new car like the mini cooper.

But, seeing all the work going into it, I am seriously impressed. That is going to be extremely loud in that lil car. Nice job, and looking foward to the results!

:D

plans for the exterior are to get the plastic trim around the wheel wells/side skirts painted gloss black to match the body, ALL CHROME accents are going black (door handles, headlight trim, etc) even emblems

headlights/tails going blacked out completely

those little bolts all around my rims, those will get painted black, and the spokes are removable, they make black ones, but theyre 120$ so im gonna get mine painted, most likely FLAT black though, becuase i plan on doing flat black stripes down the center of the roof/hood/trunk, and some flat black stripes with the MINI logo in them on the bottom of the 2 front doors. might do flat handles, emblems, etc. i like the gloss/flat look combo :)

Must not have strict cops down there or something. Hell, just the other day, I was visiting my parents house and it was raining, which makes my 20% look a lot darker and got pulled over. The 2nd time with in a month. Neither time was I ticketed, but anytime I go through that town, I roll all the windows down I can, lol! His car wouldn't make it a mile through my parents town. Strict cops with nothing better to do to make quotta FTL!

Yeah, I haven't eever been pulled over for my tint here (5% all around and 40% on windshield) Only thing I ever got pulled over for was having tinted tail lights... cop said she couldn't see my breaklights but whatever lol.

Nice build though, can't wait to see the end result. Mini will look very slick with the blackout combo. You have the regular mini right, not the S??

ive only gotten 1 ticket, but cops are always staring me down, usually they dont turn around since they're going the opposite way...ive kinda ran from a couple once, i saw them from a distance start their car from where they were parked, and come towards me (they had to be, they stared right at me) and i turned down another street lol

most cops arent strict about tint, theyll usually say something if they stop u for speeding or something else, but MOST wont pull you over JUST for tint.

unless they're a complete ****.

been working on the back lately, i dont have much more left to do really as far as the trim panel in the rear goes. i love how its coming out.

cut out the rear trim panel, although i knew it wouldnt fit, so i had to 2 piece it to get it in the car.

all i gotta do is make a little triangular piece to cover over this mess, and im done with the rear trim panel.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v171/pimpedout92x/Mini%20Wall%20V2/DSCF2544.jpg

im thinkin since the headliner, side panels, are suede, im thinkin of black vinyl for the trim panel i just put?? ideas here please.

raising the floor a little, this is where ill put things like excess wire, fuses, my 3 way crossover, etc etc. (under the floor)

the floor will be suede as well, thats why i think suede top bottom and sides, then the center trim panel would look good accenting it in vinyl

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v171/pimpedout92x/Mini%20Wall%20V2/DSCF2541.jpg

closed the sunroof, need to cover this in suede, and it wont look bad at all.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v171/pimpedout92x/Mini%20Wall%20V2/DSCF2537.jpg

this is what looks bad, but no one will ever see it, the sunroof DOES still open though, its just pointless since its sealed off. its very stiff, ive got the 3/4", then a layer of Peel n Seal, then 1/4", then another layer of peel n seal, then the final 1/4" which you see from the inside of the car, which will get sueded.

the stock wheels looked way better then the gay wheels you put on that.

orangecounty1
04-27-2008, 02:00 PM
i like both, the stockers were chipping, and i wanted 18s anyways at that point. i could have just powdercoated the stockers black, but oh well. the chrome spokes on there now will be going black, when i get around to blacking out all the other chrome pieces on the car.

mini coopers dont look good with chrome IMO.

pics sorta make it look bad, yes theres a little gap at the top, but the flash makes it show alot more than it really does. its the best i could get it!

the drywall screws will be replaced with screws with nicer heads on them tomorow, i just put those in now to hold it so the glue will dry. i really didnt want any glue at all. and i had to have the wood 2 pieces, thats why you see that seam, again the flash shows it more than it is. once all the amps are in there, you wont really see any of the imperfections, although there isnt many.

this was the 2nd time covering the trim panel...attempt 1 failed. LOL.

orangecounty1
04-29-2008, 02:33 PM
these pics do it more justice. i replaced the screws with some nicer ones, not exactly what i wanted, but theyre black, and look better than a drywall screw, so they're fine. once the amps and everything is in, it wont be as noticeable.

also got some black leather piping, like the kind you sew into the edges of a seats upholstery. gonna run that around the boarder of my trim panel, to cover the few gaps that i do have.

what you guys think?

the piping, i got 10 yards, it was only .30 cents a yard lol

orangecounty1

if i opened it, the bass goes right out the roof. it was always closed, and it never had a solid shade, so sun was always beating on my head, it just got annoying. so i did away with it the easy way.

mostly to stop the pressure from possibly ever popping it off the tracks.

Well...You have a nice...beauty wall and false floor...

I wouldnt have done any of the touch up work before the actual wall was finished. No telling how many times I would have tore it down and rebuild till I felt I got it right...

Have to you tested the weight in the car? I have a friend with a Mini S and its not too keen on having 4 big guys in there let alone 1k+lbs in stereo equipment and wood.

the top of the box, although it still needs to be trimmed up a little.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v171/pimpedout92x/Mini%20Wall%20V2/DSCF2576.jpg

trying to hold it where itll be mounted, while taking a pic at the same time

the gaps on the sides/back will be sealed with birch, at a 45 degree angle, and of course, glassed a couple layers thick.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v171/pimpedout92x/Mini%20Wall%20V2/DSCF2577.jpg

sealed the rear "sunroof". the back one doesnt open, so theres no tracks for the roof to pop off of, like the front.

only reason for sealing the back is becuase im going to screw and glue the top of the box to that, for extra support. its hard to explain, but you'll see as i progress. i got lazy and didnt feel like finishing the top piece tonight. but the back trim panel is 95% done, so ill move back to the actual box until its done, then finish the back trim panel and front trim panel.

I know someone had said something about the car having the power earlier but with a simple upgrade you might get better gas mileage. the top of the box screws and is glued permanently to the wood over the rear sunroof. it doesnt move, very solid.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v171/pimpedout92x/Mini%20Wall%20V2/DSCF2581.jpg

gluing it up!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v171/pimpedout92x/Mini%20Wall%20V2/DSC01913.jpg

put it on.. notice i covered the edge in suede and rounded the edge...ill explain why in the next pic

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v171/pimpedout92x/Mini%20Wall%20V2/DSC01914.jpg

the port will only come out to about here. so i extended the top of the box, and covered it in suede to cover the rear sunroof, or else the very edge of the sunroof would have been showing, becuase the port doesnt come past the sunroof.

Staple fleece or something in the corners, resin it, then lay your glass down, make sure you use a ton on it, go crazy. Get as much glass on the mdf as possible so you get a good hold.

nothing wrong with it...its going to be glassed throughout the whole interior of the box...and all the square angles will be rounded before glassing, for the best airflow...not a single piece is just "glued" in place....they're all screwed and glued in....nothing will just break apart....if anything, the little pieces add a little bit of strength...they dont move at all...very solid...

screwed down front baffle with 2 screws just to hold it in place temporarily.

port baffle...dont want to cut out the port opening yet, becuase i dont know how wide its going to be. height will be 5.75" though. its most likely gonna be 5.75 x 28-30", for around 161-172.5 sq inches of port...not as much as i wanted but its absolutely all i have room for.

this is just sitting there by the way...not screwed in or anything yet...thats why theres gaps at the top, etc.

thats what you use to rip your wood? skill saw, jigsaw, and miny table saw? how do you like the little table saw. i have been thinking of buying one but was unsure of how hard it would be with big sheets.

and its lookin good still, keep up the good work

i use the circle saw and that straight edge + clamps, to rip it to smaller pieces as i go, then use the table saw for angles and ****, and to cut it down after i ripped it with the circle saw, to a workable size.

jig i just use for small things really... i used it for the sub cutouts cuz the router is too much work..the final flush mount trim panel im using the router for though.

the table saw isnt even mine...i deffinetly like it, but i dont at the same time... one day im gonna buy a table saw, but i want a big one....its a table saw...not a "put it on the driveway floor" saw lol

i really like how this is coming out, especially since this is the first attempt at making panels. we will see how it comes out when i glass it!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v171/pimpedout92x/Mini%20Wall%20V2/DSCF2647.jpg

the lower circle, in the blue pen, is around where the stock door handle would pop out.

the blue permanent marker circle is where it WILL be.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v171/pimpedout92x/Mini%20Wall%20V2/DSCF2648.jpg

pretty **** straight and lined up, some of the tweets are off by like a 16th or less of an inch, but to the eye it all looks centered. i cant complain, becuase the top and bottom of the door panel arent perfectly perpendicular.

Sure it will be crazy loud, but now that I think about it, you may need a few more speakers in there. There is a guy lost in the jungles of Guam that won't be able to hear it unless you do :wow:

the tweeters most likely will be louder than the mids...they are VERY loud.

speakers are pretty good (the mids/tweets) for the price. the mids are Selenium though, not power acoustik. the tweets are PA.

Ever thought about building an actual door panel instead of just laying a piece of wood over it and cutting holes in the stock panel?

Would most likely solve all of your clearance issues, and would look a hell of a lot nicer.
