View Full Version : Subs in the rear deck? Anyone have any suggestions?

I am a newbie and I am certainly not looking to compete and I dont have a lot of high end audi gear going in this car. The car is a Chrysler 300C SRT8 with the upgraded digital 37o watt factory Kicker amp. It actually sounds pretty good for what I need. The front 3 speakers were upgrade to Infinity Kappa 4" (there is a center, and one in each corner), the doors are getting Kicker 8" mids and the rear deck just has some 6x9 for fill. The factory Kicker Sub and Amp was removed for bass, and replaced with a small 200 watt Alpine amp, and a blue Alpine S type 12" subwoofer in a box in the spare tire well.

The sub in there now actually sounds very nice, better than when the box faced back. There is less rattle this way as well!

I am hoping to change the sub set up to something a lil more pleasing to the eyes and hoping to get some more sound in the cabin and reduce trunk rattle (And I am bored with this set up - pic below).

I am up for suggestions, the trunk is HUGE, and I do not want to rattle the car. I LOVE LOVE mid bass, and I dont care about low frequencies that pierce the ears. I listen to mostly RB, hip hop, and I love the sound of Michael Jackson Music on a nice car audio system (clean, clear and midbass heavy music).

I was contemplating 2x10" woofers in an enclosure built under the rear deck, then holes made in the deck to see the speakers in the deck (I had a 8w7 in there with a 500.1 and it was not enough for me). Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions or pictures?

3 8" woofers sounds appealing as well, has anyone used this setup before?

Thank you for your input.

Not feeling those...

I was thinking of 3 8w1s or 2 10w3s maybe?

Or something equal to that... Up for any suggestions not free air, I want the box because that sounds way better that way

I see your point. I like more midbass, but I need something to overpower the front stage that I have with the kicker 8s I am going with. I was shocked at the difference when I upgraded the factory amp to the new kicker upgrade. The doors have a nice sound to them finally, and now I am just looking for a change to the trunk set up.

Let me bring this back...

Does anyone live near PHX aZ that can work with fiberglass for a fee?

And does anyone agree that the rear fill speakers are not a must? I was thinking or removing mine.
