Ok I am building me a clean little turboed tuner car. I can build a car from ground up but I know nothing about audio in a car. I am looking for a good Headunit for my car, would love for the face to be clean and black with all red buttons. I know alpine is a good company for headunits but I dont know what is good for a headunit to have and what is not. Price aint much of an option since I love my music. Thanks

It depends on what medias you listen to you music. Im pretty sure you would like an Ipod able deck, but what kind of features are you looking at using?

I would love to be able to hook my ipod up to it and save me from making 5 million cds. Other than that I dont know what other features come on a HU, I really never have messed around with audio in a car cause it just confuses me everytime I try.

Do you still want to use CDs?

I have a cda-9885 and i love it. Im pretty sure youll love it also. It illumintaes red and blue at night, or all RED since you like that.

I'm guessing you don't know how to toy with 7-band equalizers, right?
My Pioneer DEH P6900UB has USB input, 7-Band EQ, sub controls, 2 aux in, and detachable face. However, it's silver and blue lights.
As far as the color thing, it's gunna be hard to find a decent HU that's both black and red...
I mean, I think Sony Xplod HU is Red and black... but NEVER buy anything Sony. They're extremely poor quality.
Go to www.woofersetc.com www.ikesound.com or www.crutchfield.com and look at their selection of HU's, see what HUs you like cosmetically and we'll be happy to tell you if they're worth the $$$.
I don't think you should make your final decision based on looks though. You will ending up listening to your music more, not staring at the HU anyways.

ok i am very picky sorry but it has to be red buttons. i am not staring at it all the time but it will bother me more than anything if it doesnt match the rest of my interior. the cda-9885 is nice i seen it at work the other day in a thunderbird lol. but i didnt know it u could change the blue buttons to red. is it a good quality and not extremely expensive HU, the 9885?

what about the Alpine iDA-X200 or X300? they any good if not I will prolly just go with the Alpine 9885

yeah the 9885 is great quality. feels nice and not cheap, killer display. Sounds great. you can pick it up at onlinecarstereo for around 200
04-20-2008, 06:57 PM
not cheap? for 200 that is cheap to me seeing as a year ago i spend 1400 on a indash tv lol.

its all about personal prefrences, I for one am never going alpine again, and as far as i'm concerned their last half decent deck was 9835. i'd reccomend going JVC or panasonic, they have that all rounder sound. panasonics are a bit shy on bass though.

what turned u off alpine?

the highs, no matter what tweet i used, from pioneer, to phase evolution, dls, whatever its so f***ing annoying. i tried killing it on the Xover, EQ, different slopes, no matter what i did it always emphasises aggressive higs. but thats just me
04-20-2008, 07:41 PM
lol i wont be able to tell the difference LOL i'm dont know what the difference would be between to aggressive highs and normal lol.

The Alpine x001...last years model, x100, x200 and x300 all have red displays. The x001 and x100 allow for changing between red and blue lighting. The x300 seems to be red display only. The x300 has only "one" pre-out while the others have more.
The x001 and x100 provide for wallpapers and custom wallpapers while the x200 and x300 use a line display.
The x100 costs $400 retail and the '07 x001 retails for $269 at Crutchfield at the moment.
None of them use cd's so you are limited to either mp3, ipod or usb drives. Personally I use an 8gb usb drive that holds all my songs. And I have a 160gb WD Passport hard drive that holds all my music and audio, old time radio, files at roughly 45gb...much much easier than sorting through cd's. Both show album art but only with the use of an ipod...runs the ipod at full speed but no album art using a usb drive...that ***** lol.
I like the x001 quite a bit. I have been a loyal fan of Alpine for close to 30 years now and have never been let down.
Keep us posted on what you do and enjoy.

the alpine 9885 is a very good hu i had it for about 6 months before i upgraded to a indash and now im wanting to switch back to the 9887. the 9885 has everything you will prolly need and its red!!! there is one for sale here for 155 shipped.
The Eclipse CD7000 can be customized to have everything red, and it's not a bad HU.

I will prolly end up going with a X100 or 9885, altho i was told that you can't get the 9885 brand new anymore? but i like both of them so i dont know which i will go with, cause i dont want anything but alpine.
