View Full Version : NeverEnuffBass's Durango Wall & More Rebuild...

NeverEnuffBass
04-06-2008, 02:52 PM
Its finally warmed up here to the point where I can finally work comfortably outside so as soon as I finish this I'm going outside to start. Many of you may remember my first build in the truck http://www.caraudio.com/forum/showthread.php?t=149014 and http://www.caraudio.com/forum/showthread.php?t=126266 Setup was loud and low but I know I can do better so it was time to upgrade. My goal is to build a system that looks amazing, plays music extremely loud and low and can still crank out some nice numbers on a meter. This setup is not going to be a daily driving setup. The Durango only gets driven to shows and taken out for a rides when the weather is good.

The Victim
http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m254/NeverEnuffBass/carshow1.jpg

http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m254/NeverEnuffBass/Durangotrunkedit.jpg

The Equipment
Subs:4 RE MT 15's
Sub amps: 4 Powerbass XA-3000's
Batteries: 4 Kintetik HC-2400's and 1 HC-1800
Front Speakers: 8 Powerbass 4XL-65-92 6.5 midrange (4 per door)
Tweeters: 2 Beyma AST-05 (105db@1watt/meter)
Amps:3 Powerbass XA-2150 & 1 XA-250
Hatch Speakers: Undecided

The New Bling
Rims: 22" KMC SS
Lower: 2"
Exhaust: GS Motorsports True Dual
Video: 37" LCD monitor
Entertainment: PS2 Front & rear with Guitar Hero

The Plan
-Build new wall (about 16cubes before displacements) 32hz tuning
-Fiberglass door panels to hold 4 6.5's and tweeter, texture & paint to look factory
-Fiberglass sides of car behind wall to hold sub amps mounted on edge lit acrylic.
-Build flush mount for the 37" monitor
-Recover suede headliner
-Fiberglass the hatch panel to hold more speakers

Well didn't get too much done today but I pulled the cover off of it and gave it a nice bath then got inside and took some measurements. I know there is plenty of room in there cause my last enclosures were 30 cubic ft. Looks like the door panels will be my biggest issue as the pocket will have to be cut off and filled so I have some room to work with. My false floor didn't hold up to the wieght of the last wall so well so I'll be rebuilding that too.

5.2 pretty much stock right now. Edelbrock air cleaner & 160 degree thermostat. I think engine work is gonna be next year's money pit. But i'm hoping to get some valve covers, and headers this year just to clean up the engine bay a little

So here's the start of the door panels. Hope to have them resined by the end of the night. Speakers will mount from behind so all mounting hardware is hidden. I probably could have fit more speakers in there but I didn't want it to start looking like ***. I think 4 in each door should be enough.

Well I planned on having these ready for paint by today... I was gonna spend all weekend on them but spent most of time getting drunk and going to bbq's instead. One needs a little more filling and the other one needs to be filled completely. I used duramix 40/40 to blend the edges together as body filler would not hold to the panel well. I then also used the 40/40 to shave my ashtray and 2 switches.

40/40 is a 2 part epoxy that is made for repairing abs plastic and such. Once it hardens its just like plastic.

Well after going out to Carlisle for the truck show I am finally motivated enough to get this build finished. My faux suede headliner is starting to sag so I ordered 10yards of blue velour http://www.distinctivefabric.com/fabric.php?product=VELOUR1

I will be doing the headliner in it as well as door and seat inserts. Have a little idea in mind for the door inserts and you will be seeing that this weekend.

Well its been a while since I've updated this and I have not touched the car at all. Its been sitting and since I lost my job I didn't really have any money to play with. I'm working two jobs now but making enough to where I can fund the rebuild. Tomorrow I'm cleaning out my shed and making room to work in there.

All I can say is be prepared. I decided to go over the top with it and I have some ideas that I haven't seen done yet that I'm going to try. Pretty much this is going to be the car that showcases my fabrication skills for the shop I'm working at now so it has to be crazy. Updates coming soon

If you get this done in time for this season you gotta bring it up to Boston for some shows. You could definitely enter the car show portion along with the SPL part. The July 12th show should be huge, think you'll be ready by then?

I'm aiming for early may so I should be there. I was going to try for HIN Boston but thats cutting it close

Yeah, that will be close. HIN Registration is open, $60 per vehicle and it allows entrance for 2. It's all outdoors and you have to check in on Saturday I believe, then leave it there over night for the show the following day. So you'll want to book a hotel room too.

We'll be doing a couple CT shows too, so you can hit those car shows too.

HIN is outside this year? When I went 2yrs ago when I was going to RITOP it was in the expo center.

Yeah Manny was telling me about the CT shows I can't wait

The outside shows are cheaper than the indoor ones, for HIN anyway, registration is still just as expensive for the cars and spectators.

I'm giving Manny one of our CT shows to run, it'll help us out a lot having a second NESPL Judge to run shows for us. We have one set up already in Rocky Hill CT, and we're waiting on the one for Manny to run.

I'm sure it will hold together just fine. It won't vibrate enough to break it

Did you have to cut into the air vent to fit your double din? If so could I see pictures?
