Actually they were predrilled and I even used a countersink bit on them too. I used a ****** drill and it was about 20degrees out so thats why Im thinking it split, either way im redoing it when I get home, thanks though

Thanks it took me a couple trys to get what I wanted, I first made a rack that went on the back of my seats and it looked dumb having the amp at a downward angle so I tried a few other small things and ended up with how it was now, simple and effective.

lookin like a well thought out SPL setup... but i would not use MDF for that amprack. i had a friend make one out of MDF and after a while the vibrations from his 2 15's shook it apart. unless you got copious amounts of wood glue on there i would make it with some nice ply.

but thats just my .02.

otherwise, good looks on the charging system. props to some one who actually thought out their installation.

Right now its got a premium sound package that really works pretty great, theres actually a amplifier behind the deck. I plan to see how that sounds with the subs but I do plan on doing an upgrade sometime this summer or maybe have it as my fall project. I have been looking at some nice CDT comps though if I do upgrade, all depends how this sounds I guess when I get everything together

I don't know if you have looked at those doors, but they are sort of a b!tch to work with. When you get ready seend me a pm and I will give you some suggestions.

Did that alty drop in easily -- any mods necessary?

Alt dropped in nicely, only issue I had was the heatshield that Nathan at EA put on it was to big so it covered where the plug was to go in. So after I put everything in at about 11pm in 20 degree weather I had to take it all out.

I have taken my door panel off once before, it doesnt look the easiest but I think I should be okay, I will keep you in mind though for when I need help. I think the hardest part was wiring the deck with the premium sound it made everything a lot harder.

Well I collected one piece at a time over a six month period and actually have been planning on doing this since I was a member on Ecousitcs quite a while ago. As for dimensions I dont have them off hand anymore, but im sure vitveet does if you need them or a design for a box

unless you are putting on a 10" lift, go with smaller tires. anything less than 10" will looked stuffed with 35's.

this is an idea of how lifted trucks should be done: Hi Performance RPM (http://www.slide.com/r/lMNG4-Br1j92ijpC8MYvHorZJpkupxaq?view=large)

Maybe its just my opinion but the 10" lift looks a little ridicolous and makes the tires look sissy. I was thinking a nice 6" with 33" or 35"s. Either way 10" is not happening. I live in Wisconsin and we do up our trucks a little different here. I go mudding up north every weekend in the summer and if I showed up with a truck like that, even to haul my mud truck, I would be laughed at for hours. Im not going for show on this truck so i think a 6" with 35" will do just fine its already got 32"s on it and looks kinda small if ya ask me.

Your licence plate says "GEY" :hilariou:

but nice install and truck :) very nice

Thats because his truck is gay. The guy post's a properly built jeep for actually taking it offroad and gets cause out by some retards with way to much lift with not enough tire, and some crome shocks lmfao. sorry but your purple toyota would get destroyed by that jeep in ANY place doing ANYthing.:verymad:

Maybe its a Hawaiin thing cuase if that 4runner came up to the pipe with the real crawlers and mudders he would be laughed but hey its what he likes and i wont bash him for that. Its just not the style here.

bumpin buick
04-19-2008, 04:19 PM
I got off the phone after a long talk with UPS, for once it sounds like there not to blame. They made the shipping label wed night and told me I would have it by friday. well UPS doesnt pick up at 9pm and amprepaircenter should have known that. I told them to ship it to my school if they couldnt get it to me this weekend but they insisted they could. Well now it wont be here until monday but I wont be home for another two or three weeks so I will be having them pay for shipping it to my school cause that is bullshit and everything else is ready to go

you gonna bring it to dropfest? I don't know for sure, but I think there is gonna be a big points db drag event there again this year. I'll most likely be there, whether or not I enter my car depends on when my parts get here though.

edit: just looked, and dropfest is gonna be a 3x dbdrag event.

First off I am 5'7" 145lbs, 162 after hydration, I am a wrestler and a **** good one at that too so I will take lil as a compliment cause honestly it dont hurt me but I dont see whats so funny about it.

I was not upset, I was simply trying to get a better understanding as to why you found it funny to say lil boy? I was then stating to you that I am a wrestler and I have no problem being lil. I am a very easy going guy and in a fantastic mood. So although you may think I am :verymad: right now, I am really :D

BTW thousands of people still wrestle, its actually an Olympic sport(if that means anything anymore now a days) and they pay for part of my college. I may be switching it around but the initial reason I did the batteries behind the box is because the angles on the seats I have more room if I put the batteries in first, if that makes sense, it gave me like an extra two inches in depth.

What do you mean the subs are up and the port is back?

Yes of coarse, thats how you "break them in" The more power you throw at them the sooner the suspension is going to loosten up for you.

Even throwing gobs of power at my BTL and playing it over an octave below tuning I still put over 10 hours on it before it softened up.

they have definatly become noticably softer than when I got them. I thought they were almost froze up with how stiff they were at first, now it take a bit of pressure still but I can get them to actually move a little :D

I think the Dells are about an hour from Whitewater but im not to sure I dont live in this part of the state, just attend school here.

Dropfest is the biggest car show in Wisconsin and it is held in Kimberly Wisconsin at the Wisconsin International Raceway. They also have a 3x event this year.

News update, its storming outside.
I need to talk with Vitveet but umm... my port just broke. I was bumping lollipop and the sidewall ripped out of place. I am hoping he will be able to help somehow with this but I kind of doubt it. We will see but it still seems to play great and loud, just a few certain notes it begins to make a ****** rattling sound.

Wierdest thing is the box came to me in perfect condition from DHL it was solid as could be and looked very strong, this setup is loud but I never expected this to happen, well I contacted Vitveet just to get his input on the situation but I may be needing a new box in the very near future. Anyone know if its okay to run it how it is now? I have been but not super loud yet it seems to be doing fine though and still sounds god otherthan some really low notes it starts to rattle

I thought the box was built very well, I am honestly shocked this happened. I am guessing there was just a focus point of the pressure and it hit a weak spot, but I dont build boxes so Im not sure

Hello! I guess I'm 3 weeks late to the party, lol! Bumpin Buick told me about the build but now that I'm actually seeing it all......JAW DROPPING!!! I took the time to read all 13 pages and I must say I'm VERY impressed on how this all came together! Very nice thread also (except for the few who aren't showing any love for some weird reason).
One of the thing that's impressed me the most out of all this, strangely, is how that STOCK battery is reading well over 14 volts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Lol!

Thanks for contacting me about the enclosure Bumpin B. Yeah, that enclosure build was very fun and I loved the way it turned out! Sorry to hear/see that the port is cracking like that....must be tons of pressure coming through that port! I made sure to used plenty of screws along with PLENTY of the best wood glue to make the connections the tightest they could be.
What you could try to do, like another member said, is to resin that area to reinforce it a big.
Grab a few 1/2" or 3/4" wood screws and screw in that cracking part right at the end of the port. Screw right into the side (from the inside of the port to the outside of it). If the 2nd or 3rd cracks are as bad, do the same but from the outside of the port to the inside. If you go from the outside to the inside, be sure to use 3/4" wood screws. Also, its seems as if those wood screws could have broken from the extreme pressure coming through that bad boy. I'd just take about 6-7 screws down the port (from top down....but make sure to use 1.5" wood screws b/c of the double baffle on top). Also, you can use 3/4" screws to screw into the side (outside to in) towards the top of the port.
If all that is done, it should def. take care of the rattle and eliminate any further cracking/rattling.
Once you get done doing all that, SEND ME THE BILL FOR ALL YOUR MATERIALS YOU BOUGHT TO DO THIS REPAIR AND I'LL TAKE CARE OF IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Plus, I'll pay you for your own labor too!
I really appreciate putting all the pics of the enclosure and the entire build on the forum! GOOD stuff coming from a good man!
Headed over to respond back to your email now! Thanks!

Thanks bud, I don't want anyone thinking your work is bad by this because no one could have expected this to happen. This whole build has been a learning process and its just one more thing. The only issue is with the box here at college I cant do anything to fix it until I get home, then I will take the subs out, repair the wood, and glass the inside. That will be in a weekend or two. Thanks for the box though, other than the port incident it really is an awesome box and was at a great price.

04-24-2008, 11:27 PM
Ok, thanks man. Just lmk how that turns out whenever you get home and try all that out.
I just did a big project, not as big as yours but big for a system used ONLY for daily driving, and you should see the port FLEX on it:eek:! It's crazy and I've never seen anything like it! I knew I'd have to do something a little extra to it and figured that the port would be semi weak but didn't think it'd be like that! I'll post a vid of it over the weekend for you guys to see, lol.
What I'm doing to solve the problem, what you could possibly do also, is adding an entire side on the port (side). Basically like a double layered port. It'll stiffen it up quite well and eliminate any kinds of movement that could potentially damage the port.
Anyhow, here's a few pics. Just did 0 awg power and grounds, 2 18's (enclosure is approx. 10 cubes @ 28 hz) and running off of around 2200 wts rms. The subs we went with were 2 18" HC's. Had a few problems with one so we swapped them for a pair of modded/copper coiled FI SSD's.

Cool deal man! Betcha it sounds a bit different now huh?!!? That amp probably gives you a clean 250 wts per sub more power about. Can you notice a difference??!! Maybe we can meet up this weekend or next! Got a 12" SSA Icon ported in the IS300 that you need to listen too....!

Small update: Bumpin B. will come in a say more but he's going to try a few things in a few weeks (possibly adding an entire sheet to the side of the port) and see how that works. Theoretically, the enclosure is in great shape....we just wanna make sure no more damage occurs and want to eliminate that rattle (rattle coming from the panel slapping another panel). I'm sure he'll keep us all updated:)

V.

bumpin buick
04-25-2008, 12:43 AM
Yup will do, until then you think it would cause damage to play it how it is but just not turn it up all the way? Its still plays loud and sounds good untill certain lower notes then it starts to rattle

vitveet
04-25-2008, 01:02 AM
You'll be fine playint it like it is as long as you don't have it cranked when playing something LOW. When those low notes really come in at high volumes, large amounts of air is RUSHING through that port like you wouldn't believe (esp. with those subs and the power behind it pushin' them) and that's what will get those panels slapping each other.
So yeah, def. won't hurt anything with it a moderate volumes. The subs def. aren't affected at all by this b/c that loose panel is in the port and not the airspace where the subs are seeing.

Well I realized at higher notes the box doesnt have any issues so I turned my amp up and volume even more today. I think I can say the subs are finally being broken in pretty good. I also had the hall director come out and tell me to turn it down because the dorm building was shaking. So i take that as a good sign. I will get more vids once this storm passes
