i made simple door pods a few months ago. now i want to double up the midbass.
this is the first step in starting my custom 3-way setup. finished product will be
2 pairs of 8's, set of mids, and a set of tweeters(yet to be perchased).

i forgot how expensive resin is. ill end up spending $20 per pod just on resin. the wood was left over and so was the fleece so i guess $40 bucks aint bad

Looks very good. Will the 2nd 8" be playing into the side of the seat? Just wondering if you checked that out. Should be killer when it's all done, so be sure to post more pics...

update:

passenger door is 95%done. heres what i got so far.

vinyl applied. had to use a heat gun to get it around all the curves. dropped the heat gun now chunks of ceramic fall out of it.

almost done. i bought grills with 8 screw holes and woofer only have 6. solution? drill the woofer frame!:D
the trim around the pod still isnt up to par. i will have to find a better way to do it.

someone asked yesterday if the second woofer plays into the side of the seat. peep it yo. morel grills gotta be the sexiest grill out.

8's are supposed to be here today....sometime.

anyway drivers door was assembled the same way the passenger door was, so i decided not to take pics to get it done faster.
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y5/dickbonus/IMG_0209.jpg
i screwed up the panel on the bottom, i cut too much off.

i tried to find gold screws to match the cone. this is as close as lowe's would let me go.
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y5/dickbonus/IMG_0210.jpg

as you can see. no room was lost between the pods and the stock door panel.

Not bad man . But i'm not digging the seem where the factory and your panel meet. I can see the red paint on the door through the seem. Should have taped up the factory door panel and filled your panel so it met the factory panel better :)

I did read the whole thread, Including the first time you mentioned that the gap would close up with the glass and vinyl. And also the last part where you said you cut too much off ;) I was just offering my opinion my man :)

Looks sick man, nice job. Do you jus screw that back wood panel to the door an then shape an glass the pods?

mdillon
04-11-2008, 12:49 PM
no, i built the pods off the door. you can see on the first page where i mocked up the back board. those holes were drilled out after the pod was completed and it was bolted down from the inside of the pod. just 2 bolts but it isnt going anywhere. they are very strong pods.

if you get a chance take a pic of how you mounted it, im quite curious.

Im not sure whether i should cut out the whole square of the door as you did or just work around it. Ex cut holes into the pockets of the door for speaker magnets and FG around that. I would like to be able to get the door somewhat back to normal if i had to but i don't think thats a choice with this type of project

look on first page with the mock up board. there are 2 screws holding the board in place. you can use theses screws or you can use bolts like i did. you will need at least 2" screws and make sure they are beefy enough to hold the weight of the pod.

not sure if i can find pics but the bolts are 3/8" dia. 2" long flat head on the head side and 8mm nut on the other. i ran the flat head portion in the rear and the nut was tightened inside the pod. i had to use visegrips to clamp onto the bolt so it wouldnt spin in place and i could tighten them down.

thanks. it was pretty difficult because i dont have the right tools. took me twice as long as it should've. i was contemplating using cups from the kitchen for the resin until i found some disposables buried in the pantry.:)

did you ever find a better way to blend the doors into the pods?
I'ma be tackling this project soon now that i officially have the truck.

I just noticed you had some type of rubber around the cut on the door to make it look better?

just wondering which way i should go and what i shouldn't do. Now that i actually have the truck im kinda worried about chopping right into it =S.

lmk if you ever fixed it up and how. Thanks
