Thats how i'm going to mount my mids in the door but I couldn't find any 1/2in MDF but I picked up a piece of 1/2in Birch, would that do the job also?

sure birch is fine. I like to seal up any baffle I stick in the doors. Water can and will find a way into your doors eventually. Once you have all your cutting done to your baffles and are ready to stick them in the doors. Give them a couple coats of either resin or EXTERIOR use polyurethane on the entire baffle. It will save you the head aches of swelled up, deteriorated baffles down the road :)
