Did this today for a customer at work. Customer has an 05 Caravan and wants an overhead monitor installed. Says she has been everywhere locally and most several places said they cannot do it due to the fact that the headliner has a pretty gnarly little hump/curve right where the customer wanted the overhead mounted. Overhead being used is an Alpine PKG-RSE2. Customer said one shop tried to freehand cut the plastice shroud that came with the monitor to match the headliner but it was not to her liking so she came to me. Now on to the pics.
pic, of the headliner right after i taped it off. You can see the curve/hump in the center thats where the monitor is going

This is what the monitor will be mounted to. It is cut to the exact match of the screen

Our piece of wood mounted to the headliner via a steel brace running under the headliner

Shot from the otherside so you can see the space that needs filling

made a sleeve so that we can build up the duraglass

Used duraglass for this as it is pretty thick and easy to build up to the extent that was needed

http://img208.imageshack.us/img208/4697/1000703fa7.jpg
After a few mins of sanding
http://img148.imageshack.us/img148/6585/1000704yf4.jpg
i removed the sleeve as it was no longer needed plus it blocked my wire hole
I didnt have any grillcloth that matched the head liner so i just used black

Nice. Couldn't it have been rabbit edged and fleeced instead of all the filler? Not criticizing just curious it is good work. Do most roofs have a rib you can put a brace on? I have an 04 Tahoe and rear HVAC controls rattle like a ***** and I was gonna take em out to make my own deal.
Once again looks good.

I've had it off but I didn't dig any deeper than the plastic crap that was up there. I gotta take the headliner down anyway.

how much would someone charge to do that because i am looking into putting a 17inch flip down screen and my roof isnt all flat
Worlddre

regular flip down labor for me is $200 plus $300 for the fabrication thus $500 altogether
