2008 Pressure Class Rating System
Pressure Class Formula
{(Total Amperage of In-line Fusing X 10) + Woofer Cone Surface Area} = Pressure Class #
Please consult Division Rules for complete definitions.
Examples:
40 amps + 2-12 = 626 50 amps + 1-12 = 613 50 amps + 1-15 = 677 50 amps + 1-18 = 754
50 amps + 1-12^2 = 644 50 amps + 2-12 = 726 100 amps + 1-15 = 1177 100 amps + 2-18 = 1509
50 amps + 2-10^2 = 700 100 amps + 2-12 = 1226 200 amps + 2-15 = 2353 200 amps + 2-18 = 2509
50 amps + 3-10 = 736 200 amps + 2-12 = 2226 400 amps + 4-15 = 4707 400 amps + 4-18 = 5018

Sweet looks like we will have a good turn out. Team US AUDIO will be at the show, so there will be some serious competition.

Just a Heads up, MECA classes are determined by fusing and cone surface area. MECA allows you to use an external fuse block (MUST BE VISIBLE) within 18" of the amp as a reference for fusing rather than the fusing in your amp. This can be advantageous, because you may only need a 80amp fuse to burp your subs, whereas your amp may have 150 amps worth of fusing. Using the external fuse with a lower current rating puts you in a lower class and makes you more competitive.

12Voltz
04-10-2008, 01:23 PM
Just wanted to be sure everyone was aware. We sell Dynaudio, Rainbow, and Memphis, as well as the usual Mainstream brands. WE WILL HAVE REDICULOUSLY LOW PRICES AT THE SHOW. Be ready to buy, because it is one day only.

Correct for MECA members! This has been a pretty consistant (fair) and fast was to verify classes. MECA members must use AGU, ANL or mini-ANL, AUE, ATC fuses .

For non-MECA members it is still a good idea for our competitions to have in-line fusing ... but it is unreasonable to assume you would have in-line fusing prior to the amp so we have a preferred order: total of on-board fusing on the amplifier, if no fuses then 1/2 the amplifiers CEA rating will be used, if that rating is not available then 1/2 the available the maximum peak rating, if that is not available then 1/2 the published rating, if that is unavailable then 1/2 the theoretical rating is used.... whew so everyone can play even if the dont have an in-line fuse

BUT as 12Voltz mentioned there are serious advantages to proper fusing for non-members too

when im running 800 watts

johnvroom
04-11-2008, 08:56 PM
You might want to check your math, with 800 watt you would need 10 15" subs for S4... hehehe and if you got that you aint a noob! :p:

the MECA rules seem complicated but what makes you loud (besides doing homework and building good boxes) is the Subwoofer (cone surface area) and power (fusing in this case). There is more than that but that is a solid start

Read the rules on www.mecacaraudio.com go to the SPL drop down menu and select rules. You will find a lot of common ground in each sanctioning bodies rules, it is in the specifics where it gets very different (where is the sensor, etc.).

I plan on entering but I am confused as to which class I will be in. I have never competed in anything so this will be my first comp nor am I an installer/related to one.

I will have...

12" Fi BTL
Crunch GP3000D
2.4F Cap
Optima Red Top under hood

No other batteries with stock electrical (I know I need to upgrade ASAP, but waiting a month for summer to start to get a job)

Two Things:

This is a car show as well, just wanted to clear that up. There will be trophies for both the sound competition and the car show.

For all those that think MECA *****. You have weak systems, and are scared of rules. MECA is the only organization that runs their competition according to Mathematical and scientific principals. In other words it is as fair as fair can get. So stop whining, and build a real system, that can perform.

dvrmstrng
04-17-2008, 01:15 AM

i believe thats what ill be in but im still relatively new to the competition scene and hopefully you guys can teach me some stuff....only thing i think thats killing me is im running an amp that can do like 1800 watts @ 1 ohm at 2 ohms so im getting like 800 watts.

04-21-2008, 06:16 PM
Clinics are part of the show, we run a sweep to find your best frequency so during the competition you will be hitting your best numbers. That will help you tune for SPL.

We also do clinics for SQ as well

Registration and Clinic's start at 10, the competition should start at Noon or so.

12voltz also is doing a car show the day of the event so you may want to do both!

dvrmstrng
04-21-2008, 09:19 PM
is 10 the latest we should get there if we wanna run a quick sweep...also what time do you think trophies will be handed out / the comp ending...i know the last time i went to a USACi think competition started at like 9am and trophies didnt get handed out till around 6 pm...it was way too long of a day

scott s
04-21-2008, 10:21 PM

oh and yes my wife is going to be there

dvrmstrng
04-21-2008, 11:03 PM
scot you have any idea what kinda numbers people put up in S4 in MECA

johnvroom
04-22-2008, 08:20 AM
All the normal MECA bells and whistles: there will be Phat awards, every show is also a cash show (four or more in a class) in addition to the trophy, clinics, etc.

be there before 11 and you should be able to do a clinic, but if the line is long first come first served (10AM is not a bad idea)

I have only had one show run till 6PM this year and that was because I didn't have power to the meter till 12:00. I try to get everyone out by 5.... but 4PM is better.

Event results for the show will be posted on www.mecacaraudio.com within 24 hours of the show (well it should be anyway) and event results are posted for the last couple years for different classes on the site as well.

scott s
04-22-2008, 12:03 PM
now what fun would that be in telling. your just gonna have to show up and find out.

ps i might be able to run s3 if the fuses hold

scott s
04-22-2008, 12:05 PM
i will give you a hint, i was at sbn22 and ran iasca, meca with results on the web

dvrmstrng
04-22-2008, 01:19 PM
well no im just debating becoming a member...but with my current setup...i have an amp with a large fuse 300amp and 2 18's...however this is a beginners system id say, im running at 2 ohms with only 400 watts going to each woofer, but because of the size of the fuses 4 x 40 internal and the cone area of the woofers ill be in S4 which i feel like is useless because i probably wont break a 140.....

just deciding if its worth the money to more than likely never place....if i was in amateur 3 (i miss by like 125 classification points) id seriously consider becoming a member.

scott s
04-22-2008, 04:22 PM
well the member part is up to you . do you plan on points chasing or is more about having fun? i like both but i am not a meca member cause it is to far south for most of the shows for me. this show alone is 46 miles but it sounds like fun, plus i get to meet new people. as for s4 numbers not sure but i put up a high 147 with no testing at sbn 22

dvrmstrng
04-22-2008, 06:21 PM
yeah thats what im talking about...ill be lucky to break a 140...ohm your running your amp at should be taken into consideration

krisfnbz
04-22-2008, 06:42 PM
I have never competed in any event, nor ever been to any event before... so I am just going to see some sick setups, and to be judged for SQ... I guess for the Amateur class.

Im not expecting to win anything, just figured I would get some good professional recommendations/Opinions.

Really nice event guys! Did a 140.9 on the TL with one 12 BTL to a Crunch GP3000D. Cant complain with that.

All the others in street three had two subs and only scored 1-2db higher than me.

All in all, there were some nice cars there and the once the rain stopped, it turned out to be a really nice show!

Folks
Let me tell you putting on these shows is work, but sometimes work is fun... thank you. I must also give Rob at 12 Voltz a shout out, he is a great guy with a great shop. Especially for SQ guys! We need to bring the SQ hammer to the next show!

I agree it was a very good turnout for the first MECA show in MD.

I hope to have more shows this year in your neck of the woods.

BTW event results were posted at 3 AM this morning when I got back home (www.mecacaraudio.com) in the events section look up the show and the results

Lies, I found it.

However I had to leave early to head back to college. I won Phat 12, what exactly is that?

Phat 12 is the loudest competitor using a single 12" woofer. I have a medallion for you, I will put it in the mail tomorrow

Hey John, I appreciate that. I will try my best to convince Mark at WSS to get a MECA show going. They just got their demo truck done with a JBL6000.1 to 20 10" JBL GTOs so I think they will want to this summer hopefully.

Once again, Thanks for helping me out!

Hey Tacosys. This is Shayne with the 2000 white accord coupe. Shared the cinder block with you lol. But yea man I really love the Tacoma. One of my favorite vehicles there. My friend that was with me at the show said that he saw you on the way home on Route 70 in his 99 blue civic.
