Ive got another thread already on the whole build thus far, but I wanted some additional input on the enclosure design so far.

Other thread can be viewed here (http://www.caraudio.com/forum/showthread.php?t=290761)

http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c241/MikeyB88/Dream012copy.jpg

Going to be installed something like this, although it will probably look much different when its all said and done.

Heres the design so far

http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c241/MikeyB88/Assem.jpg

http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c241/MikeyB88/Assem2.jpg

Currently its 9.7 cube tuned to 32hz with 110sq in of port. 8 cube after displacement. The front will consist of about 4 baffles and the port will be interchangeable.

The enclosure will be constructed partially in the trunk, it will slide out into the car partially. Then additional baffles will be secured onto a floor base and rear deck extension (Beauty Panels) which will also hold everything in place. If that makes sense to anyone

Input? Suggestions?

I still have a lot of tweaking to do, but its close. The port is just a little bit too long, I need an extra 1-1.5 inches at the back to have the width of port away from the back wall.

After I get some framing done in the car I'll get some more accurate measurments and get a solid design worked out. This is pretty close though. The front face will more than likely end up being two pieces, instead of one big one like the first pic shows.

Im also gonna put a raised baffle over the entire front face that will be covered in grill cloth to hide the woofer. Hopefully when its all done, my goal is to look into the car and it appear to be a stock two seater. Then the grill will snap off and reveal an 18" woofer and a massive port ;)

why not use aero ports. It would make changing the tuning so much easier. I would bet it would be louder as well.

I'm starting to realize that people who aren't into spl are typically not very fond of aeroports.

Mainly because I would need to have a bend for the ports to fit in the enclosure. Plus I dont wanna spend the money for them. And I would need like 4 6" aeros to get the amount of port area Im shootin for.

If you have any suggestions though I would be more than happy to consider aeros, I just havent been able to come up with a way to use them here.

Thanks for the comments too guys, I did consider using two of the 8" or 10" concrete tubes they have at Lowes, I dont think I could fit them on the front though.

have you considered the port on the other side? I see a lot of walls with the port behind the driver.

Yes, I actually have been debating that one for a while now. Im not sure if I would prefer to have the woofer right behind my head or the port. I was favoring the woofer on that side but Im not sure which would be more "comfortable" to the driver.

I think it's because the woofer creates more preasure than the port, so u would want it by the meter, so for DD i say have it behind u :D

Lets get a vote here, who votes for woofer driver side? And who votes for woofer passenger side?

Maybe Ill make a poll

I would put the port against the outer wall. I say driver side port.

The side of the car with the sub tends to be loudest, so I'd go that route.

MikeyB

I think Im going to run the sub on the passenger side too keep some weight on that side of the vehicle. Both batteries will be on the drivers side.
