This past weekend I picked up my sisters little 99 Nissan Sentra for cheap. It needed work and attention, as the week has passed I have almost got it running 100% perfect. There is one thing I cant figure out, It has a hesitation as if fuel restriction. It also seems as if it is gasping for air. You can hear it from the air intake box. I changed all the filters including fuel filter, changed the plugs and wires. I was told most likely its an injector thats bad. Any input would be appriciated, I wanna try and keep from taking it to a mechanic as I have done most the work myself. I save money like that, lol. Thanks in advance for any input...

What engine? Possible solutions. Clean EGR(or disable it entirely). Change o2 sensor. Reground MAF.

fuel filter. clean the mass air flow sensors and replace oxygen sensors.

Oh, and the hesitation is mainly when i accelerate. If im cruising at highway speed it wont do anything...

sounds like a maf sensor or 02 sensor. I mine was doing that and also ran rough at 1800 rpm and under, i did that and it quit.

Flux capacitor?

i had a 96 sentra with the 1.6, Its not the o2 sensor, my check engine light was always on for that exact thing. Sounds like you covered the bases. Somthing with the fuel system has to be the cause.

Ima try and get the injectors checked out, the motor is great though. Strong motor, no other problem besides the hesitation. Im also gonna get the MAF Sensor replaced

These Sentra's seem to have problems... check the VIN for recalls.

My 2000 Sentra 1.8 has problems sometimes like this, but more problems with the engine just quitting randomly at idle. It will just stop running. It ALWAYS starts right back up though. I've read up, and the things point to problems with the Idle air controller or the crank position sensor... and other problems that are very costly.

How much did you get it for if you don't mind me asking? Go to some sentra forums, and look around online... it might be something you decide to get rid of. I know if I was in the financial situation right now to look at something else, I would more than likely get rid of the Sentra before something WRONG actually happens to it.

I paid $600 for it, needed some minor work which I have already done. It was her car that just sat there and she finally decided to get rid of it casue she bought an 08 Charger. It hardly ever got used, only has 72,000 miles on it.

I had the codes read today it read "MAF Sensor bad". Im guessing its the MAF sensor then. I dont seem to believe it though since everyone tells me if it was bad the car wouldnt even be driving on the highway at 75mph.

Maybe it is the MAF, lmao...

Well, today was my first day back at work and I again had access to all my tools including my DMM. I followed the Haynes Manual and checked the voltage on the MAF. It says at idle im supposed to read 1.3v~1.7v, I was reading at 2v. With engined revved up to 4,000rpm im supposed to get a reading of 4v, I was reading at 3v. With the inginition on and engine off im supposed to see a reading of less that 1v, I was reading at 1v. Im assuming since all 3 of these readings failed the MAF is bad. Ima try that tommorrow.

how did you decide originally that the maf wasn't the problem?

revrider1
03-05-2008, 11:26 AM
By tryin another one, but just plugged one in. This idiot at the Junkyard was telling how and what to do, he pushed my nerves. When I got to work, I used my DMM to get my reading and thats what came up. Bad readings all the way across...

dman4486
03-05-2008, 11:31 AM
check the tps while you are doing your testing...im sure you can find a testing curve for it as well....im going to go back and read all the posts up till now and see if anything stands out

revrider1
03-05-2008, 11:39 AM
I am going to check everything tonight since I now have a reading on what each should be. So far the MAF has read wrong. I checked that first since all the syptoms my car has is related to the MAF and the codes read at AutoZone were againt the MAF. Pretty much, everything leads to the MAF beign bad right now. I just oredered one this morning, ima keep testing though...

Yea i didnt want to insult you but it might just be that you are driving a car that has less displacement than a soda bottle. Theres no replacement for displacement.
