Basically the same look/shape of the JL loaded ported box:

Their loaded box is 34w x 20.5d x 17h and houses a 12W7. I need basically this box for a 13W7.

Needs to keep the slanted back, and I like the look, so something similar would be awesome. I figure I can make it for less than $400, or even pay someone on here to build it for less than that.

I have up to 43w x 20d (bottom depth) x 17h to work with, and according to JL Audio, I need 2.375 cu. ft. tuned to 30hz for the 13W7 (Instead of the 12W7 that the loaded box comes with) I want to shove in there. I want to use at least 3/4" MDF unless I can find 1" somewhere.

Anyone up for it? :D

why do you think you need a W7 type speaker ?

No. They have an 8, a 10, a 12, and a 13.5 (but called a 13).

I don't need anything.

I understand it's overkill. :)

I'm really not liking the thought of blowing $1100 on a loaded 12W7 box, but, JL isn't cheap. So, hopefully someone will come out of the woodwork on this little project.

I honestly don't know what an aeroport is, but i'd like to see it similar to the JL box, which is slot ported, and seems to be the most effective setup for this sub.

thats an extremely impractical port design...........

i don't think i want to try and mess around with that kind of port. i'll do a simple slot port if you'd like

I don't know much about box design, but wouldn't JL Audio know what's best for their sub? Why else would they use the port they used?

because it looks cool and appeals to mass markets...

why do you think audioblah is still in business

I wouldn't think that an $1100 loaded sub box is a commonly-sold item.

And good point about Audiobahn. There is really nothing good about them.

well the 13w7 itself is what, $900 authorized? another 200 for the box is not that outrageous..

just simplifies the whole sub box thing for people who want convenience.

$700 for the sub.

And they don't make a loaded box with a 13W7, just a 12W7, which is $1100. So, when compared to a sub itself (a 12W7), it's $500 more for the box.

In all honesty...would you ever be able to tell the difference between a 12 & 13 inch speaker?

he probably wont be able to.

but if you want to ditch the whole backset baffle with port that goes theough the box and most likely creates a shitton of port noise, i'll whip you up a design

You said you're bored anyways, so have at it. :)

Of course not. Nor will I be able to distinguish a difference between using the McIntosh HU and a Pioneer 880. But it's what I want and i'm funding it. :)

I did get your PM but since I love a challenge, I thought I'd try my hand at the design. ;)

Nice work, but I bet JL would probably frown on this... :fyi:

Thank you Brian.

I may seem ignorant, but what purpose does the "maze" of the port serve? Just to have proper tuning?

They don't make one for the 13W7. :D

Im sure its a patented design tho... But oh well, its not like JL doesnt make enough the way it is.

Depends on the patent type. There are 2 types of patents, "design" and "utility", if it's a design patent all you have to do is change one small aspect and your in the clear. If it's a utility one then not so sure, but I don't think that JL would hunt you down and beat you like some audio thug.

That's also not just a plain ported box, it's a series tuned 6th order bandpass....

Why do you say that? Ever heard a well designed bandpass box?

BrianChia

It IS a patented design but that doesn't mean I can't design or build one for my own personal use. But I won't be selling this design for the same reason.

And just in case y'all didn't know -- 6th order bandpass enclosures are technically patented by BOSE.
