View Full Version : Will the CD7200 MKII be worth it? (Over 880PRS)

kidwolf909

Well, will the new Eclipse CD7200 MKII be worth dealing with the crappy interface in order for the sound quality/control and USB as opposed to the 880PRS?

I use my USB 90% of the time, so it's important to me, but SQ and control/tuning is very important as well. I can get the 880 for $100 and buy a USB adapter for it and be done. Or I can sell my 6900 and wait for the CD7200 MKII to come out and buy that, but I'll be without music from now until the 7200 is for sale on the net.

So, will the 7200 be worth it over the 880/800 in features/SQ to be worth the wait and interface?

Thanks in advance everyone.

Ehh.. I prefer the appearance of the 800, but in order to get the 800 instead of the 880 I'd have to take a refund for my unit and wait for the 800 to be out, all the while with no music :(

I dunno what to do lol

Nope, 800PRS has no USB, just like the 880. Check the pictures of the unit's backside on the website. Also check the Owner's Manual on the website for reassurance. I've already done both, but just so you know if you wanna check it out.

I would be all over the 7200mkII if it weren't for the crap-*** user-interface of the 7100 that looks to have been copied over to the 7200. I'm just gonna wait and see what people say when it comes out. Hopefully I can play with it at Best Buy or something :(

As I said, check the website and owner's manual, no USB. It's only supported via IP-Bus adapter, CD-UB100.

Haha, don't take either of our words to be 100% fullproof. It may end up with USB, though I don't know why Pioneer would go OUT of their way to exclude it from the manual :wow: And from the rear of the unit lol.

I'd wait and see when it comes out.

Then it supports USB then.

Not built in. The 880 "supported" USB by your definition. But a lot of websites that covered CES indicated built-in USB on the 800, but that's not the case. The only big feature that would CLINCH the 800 over the 880 would be built-in USB, everything else is the exact same apart from color and copper plate.

Otherwise it's just $100 more. :crap:

It doesnt have HDradio built in. Its HD radio ready.

I believe the manual and the specs on the website is not updated. They are using the 880 info.

Just look at the pictures man. If anything can prove it to you, that can. There is no USB anywhere on the back of the unit. Unless they added a USB dongle to the RCA pigtail (doubtful) or to the Power pigtail (really doubtful), there's no USB.

I guess they could always just throw in the adapter with the 800 and call it built-in, even though it would use the IP-Bus, but who knows. I just don't see it. Believe me, I wish it was there, but I don't see it.

There's no mention of a USB adapter under the 880's accessories either, but it still needs one :(

Would it be dumb to trade my model + $100 for an 880 to hold me over til the 7200 and 800 are out and then sell my 880 for one of the new ones? Is that too much hassle? :crap:

I can either do that, or just take the 880 and be done (with no USB), or take the $230 refund and have a hole in my dash until a new unit comes out...

1: The face quality and feel was terrible.

2: The way the face opens caused me to have to hack up my dash kit for it to fit properly causing a huge gap if I wanted to put another HU in its place. I've heard of a buch of other people that have had this problem as well.

3: The menu's are terrible.

4: The usb made all sorts of noises in frequencies up high that your tweeters would pick up, like a snapping sound.

5: The output was always inconsistent, on the highway I would have to turn it up to 65/70 for it to be consistently loud, whereas with my current 9887 and old 880prs and 860mp I have never had an issue with output.

6: The single dial to operate everything, it's near impossible to change tracks or do anything productive while driving with that big *** single knob/switch.

Thats mostly the big stuff, I can't think of the rest but I'm pretty sure there was a bit more.

Easy to not have the problem, and in the event you do blow the fuse, very easy to solve and remove the distortion.

I was going through the same problem you were, but the general USB functions of almost every player out there is still to primitive to be very useful, as its difficult to navigate with every HU out there.

Doesn't the AUX input utilize the devices internal DAC as opposed to the HU DAC ~ maybe via direct iPod connect...?

Yea but can you do it twice? :wow: Only with a CD-RW, which takes FOREVER. USB is much more convenient, and I only said 150 because I use a 1GB thumb drive. Even an 80GB HDD would be amazing.

And I'm sure Eclipse received several complaints about the issues and are working to improve the USB, hopefully they have with the 7200.

Yea I know man, that's not my worry, I know that's simple. I'm just not sure whether to buy from:
Ebay ($420 shipped, un-authorized, no warranty outside of an external purchased one)

Crutchfield ($550, authorized, 1-year warranty)

Sonic Electronix($480, un-authorized, 1-year Sonic Electronix warranty)
