Haven't asked for box plans in a while on this forum so i don't know who to go to. It's for a 12'' Q in an rsx (hatchback). I'm thinking sub up, port back. ~2.2^3 tuned to 30hz. The dimensions are; 39 inches wide, 15 inches high, 26 inches deep.

"Ported box we recommend using 1.8-2.5 cubic feet @ 28-33Hz (I personally think that a 32hz tuning is optimal, and has the most output and is still the most musical daily driving). Use 12-16 square inches of vent area per cubic foot of volume."

12-16sq.in. is a general rule of thumb, if you do 12, it considerably increases sq, comparative to 15-16.. and 35hz has done very well for me actually..

Well the reason I'm building a new box is because this one just isn't giving me the lows I want. Thats why i decided to go with a smaller box with lower tunning. I could be wrong though  .

It may need to break in some more before it loosens up and plays lower. I doubt going from 32 to 30hz will present a significant difference. What kind of lows are you talking about? Like 20-30hz?

The box it's in now is 2.7^3@32hz. Personally I just think the box is too big, but regardless I want to try something new.

As for a specific ##hz I'm not sure, but some examples most of us would know; blueberry yum yum, soul survivor, even the second note in hypnotize

I would hit up either buckyboy or JBLCAMRY for box designs....both do great work and pretty known around here

A box that's too big will cause a peak at the tuning frequency while output above and below the Fb may be somewhat reduced. With cabin gain taken into consideration, 30-35hz is probably boosted while the other frequencies above and below have comparatively less output. With a ported box frequencies below tuning are attenuated at a steeper slope. I don't see a flat response curve extending very low unless you go sealed.
