I'm replacing the head unit in my wife's car and for some reason she insists on having the RDS feature. What are some head units in the $150 to $200 range that have this?

RDS is the feature that puts the radio station name, song, artist, etc. up on the screen

I think it stands for Radio Data System. It's worthless to me but she likes it. The Kenwood Excelon 891 has it but the best price I can find on a new one is $219 + $20 shipping. That's a little over our budget for it but if I can't find any more I may have to get it.

Dumb question, does the car itself have to be equipped with rds capabilities too or will any head unit that has it work?

I would assume it's the radio? Unless you need some sort of special antenna.... I'm pretty sure that the data would be sent in the same way as the music..

That's what I think but I wasn't sure.

you dont need anything special, i used to have the 889, awesome headunit. I really miss the rds because my local sports radio station puts the game score on there.
