lol i know this might sound funny but always considered trying this

sometime this spring im gonna attempt to build my own custom kick panels.. but instead of working with fiberglass i always wondered - would this be possible...

i remmeber back in highschool shop class my teacher taught us that if you ever need to fill something - instead of wood filler you could always just take sawdust from the same type of wood (or sand) and mix it with woodglue - and use that...

now using that priciniple - what if you took a mold of the area you wanted to build kick panels in... and used say sand + woodglue (dont forget woodglue is usually stronger than the wood itself) and used that mix to sculpt the kick panels... might take a little while but you could layer it - sand it down - and carpet/paint it or whatever you want.. and should have the strength if i am correct...? and of course - pretty cheap

could work...but remember thats for a filler...as you said...

fg + resin... = WAY stronger...than the elmers glue with wood dust...

Guess you could , god only knows why you would want to when glassing them would be an arse ton easier. And probably cheaper in the end. Probably no where even remotely close to the strength either :)

Its a very bad idea. Your shop teacher was right, its good for filling things in. NOT actually making something out of it. Use fiberglass, and stop being a cheap ***.

I think ill nominate this post, for the dumbest of the year award. Holy ****.. haha good luck

well i never worked with fg so wasnt sure on how hard it really is... but even this way - assuming it *did* work... wouldnt be really that hard either..

this was more of theoritical question lol

and it really ha dnothing to do with the price

A lot easier than your theoretical idea . Making kicks is easy , aiming them properly is the hardest part. Get the aiming down , and it's all chicken but the gravy :)

There's no strength there because there is nothing to hold it rigid. It may dense and stiff but it'll crack pretty easily. Fiberglass is strong because of the glass fibers. MDF is strong because it's placed under immense pressure (a 3/4" sheet is pressed from something like 4-6" of wood powder). Real wood and plywood is strong because of fibers.

Glue + sawdust isn't very strong unless you apply extreme heat and pressure and use similar resins as used in MDF. Plus it is a ***** to work with. If you want to layer it, the glue applies well to wood but doesn't really apply well to dried glue. If you want to sand it, you better have a good beltsander. The hardness of the glue makes sanding very difficult.
