I plan on building my first box this weekend. I am aiming for around 2CuFt at 32Hz. These are the dimensions I came up with...
(All internal dimensions)
Height=13
Width=23.5
Depth=16.5

The port is 2.5 inches wide and 13 inches high. The length of the first part is 14 and the second is 12.5.

I plan on building it this weekend and I just wanted to be sure I have the dimensions and tuning correct.

What size sub is it? Is it's a 12" that won't work...

yea it's a 12. why won't it work?

why not?

wood is 3/4 in right?

Is it is 13" high that gives you 11" 1/2" surface area.. The sub will probably need like a 11.2" whole or something, but the screws will be cutting it really close...

13" is the internal height, see 1st post....

Ahh. Ok, great!

Good luck!

Thanks. It is my first build, but my dad has a table saw which I have read helps alot.

Circular saws work great to. Just make yourself a guide.

So am I right? Around 2CuFt at 32Hz?

I'm getting around 2.1cf net (assuming .1cf for sub displacement), tuned to ~34Hz

Are you going to do clear sides? Or is that just for the sake of seeing the entire box?

No. That is just so you can see the port from that angle.

How major is the difference between 34 and 32?
I went and bought the 3/4 MDF today. I want to at least start my build tomorrow.

Should I make the port a little longer or just not worry about it being ~34Hz rather than ~32Hz?

BuckyBoy

I am going to add 3.5 inches of port length and that should get it back to ~32Hz.
Pics of the build will be posted shortly

Well I didn't start the box build today, but I hope to within the next day or so.
Should I stick with the original dimensions or would this be better? I am aiming for 2-2.5CuFt at 32Hz.

External Measurements
Width 30
Height 14.5
Depth 15
Port Width 2.5
Total Port Length 34.25

sounds good, just going to set it right behind the hump behind the back seat?

its not that much of a difference..but if ure going thru factory specs check it with bassbox or win isd..i deviated from my factory specs by three liters and put in the recommended port length..got some sound but didnt feel right..then i changed teh port length added 7 cm to it and was reborn...ran it thru bassbox and had smthg to see...the initial tunning was at 37 Hz instead of the 33 that it should be

What is the purpose of the pieces in the corner? Is it simply to increase structural integrity or does it lower port noise or somethin? Basically, should I do it to my box when I build it?

they decrease port noise, add a little structure i suppose, and basically just make air movement more smooth.

I started my box build today. Sub and port both firing back.

I will get some better pictures tomorrow when I get it all glued together.

Sorry to change the subject slightly, but how important are these? Is the port noise that noticeable without them?

Yes, a corner cracked although we predrilled the holes, but I am expecting the wood filler to take care of that. Live and learn.

Can anyone give me some advice on how to keep the MDF from splitting? I predrilled all the holes. I think the problem may be the screws? I was using 1 5/8" Drywall screws.

keep away from corners with the screws, stay a few inches in

The deflectors will help a lot with high excursion subs or if you have limited port area available. They reduce turbulence in the port. They don't really add too much structurally but can reduce port noise.

i always spraypaint the port after the box is assembled. glue decreases the bond strength of the wood glue :fyi:

im assumin you made a typo and mean that paints decreases the bond strength
i didnt know that. it will have screws holdin as well tho
thanks for the info tho im sure it will come in handy down the road ;)

lol, yeah paint will decrease the bond of the glue. the screws you have are fine, just stay as centered as you can and predrill
