mobeious
11-21-2007, 05:37 PM
actually that van isnt done yet... the sponcer fell threw but its back in the shop getting worked on so updates will follow soon enough as for power the encloser is build to withstand around 24000-30000watts

anyway i could get the dimensions or designs for the transmission line box you made?

mobeious

its designed by the woofer being used so unless u have a rockford P3 12 it wouldnt help ya

Well i'm a box builder and have always been curious about those boxes. Over by me the only sound shop that sells them call them hooker boxes. Anyway could you give me some insight on them? How to design them.

I love the RE box and the transmission line is nice too.

I was wondering, do you just cut slots in wood to get a curve like you have on the RE box? I always wanted to learn how to do that.

very nice work but those kerfs need to be fully soaked
I soak mine with fiberglass resin..it completely fills the cuts and makes
the flare rock solid

i have the rockford P3 15" dual 4 ohm, would it help me at all, im trying to figure a design on a box for that specific sub

mobeious
01-19-2008, 03:20 PM
u would have to redesign the box if its a 15"

thats tells u the 1/4 theory and how to design one

snfsh79077
01-21-2008, 07:58 PM
this is some work ive been figuring about my transmission box. im making one for one of my 10s so i can get some trial and error out of the way before making the real one. does this sound right?

1130 / 30.805 = 36.68 / 4 = 9.17 ft (1/4 wave) throat length.
6.25 (1/2 of enclosure height) x 6.25 x 3.14 (pi) = 122.72 sq in.
9.17/3 (number of folds) = 3.06 ft.
3.06 x 12 ( converting into inches ) =36.68 inches long.

radiating area of subwoofer / internal hight of enclosure = throat width
46.8 / 12.5 = 3.74 inch wide throat

port length = 36.68 inches long,
port width = 3.74 inches

mobeious
01-21-2008, 08:20 PM
no that doesnt sound right

lemme see if i can help ya
2 10's? and what is the Fs of the woofer

snfsh79077
01-21-2008, 08:29 PM
one ten and the fs is 30.805

mobeious
01-22-2008, 01:41 AM
so ur throat area should be 78.5sq and a throat length of 111.14inches

Map Props to you on your box building skill mobeious, thats some real nice fabrication man. And that ul12 only weighs 16.6lbs thats pretty nice for it being able to handle that much power.

mobeious
01-22-2008, 07:33 PM
UL 12?? did i miss somthing..... thanxs for the props

snfsh79077
01-22-2008, 09:00 PM
ok thanks, i didnt specify but that 36.68 was one run in the port making it 110.04 inches long total with three folds. what caused me to be off?

mobeious
01-22-2008, 09:04 PM
mybad ur right its 110.04 i must have hit a wrong number

Transmission line enclosures are not always going to use the Fs of the driver and the Sd of the driver for line length and line area. I wouldn't recommend taking that route as you will most likely end up with an efficient enclosure that is huge. You could easily get the same response and output with a ported enclosure that would be much smaller.

01-22-2008, 09:31 PM
Well you might as well make one correctly. Read the PDF files from www.quarter-wave.com

The firs three files one there are very informative and can teach you a lot if you will let it and actually think about it. Also, you shouldn't skip over the math if you really want to know what's going on.

a problem i just realized is that my throat width is too small. my mounting depth is 5 1/2

mobeious
01-22-2008, 09:52 PM
hince my double baffle on my pics

what the other guy said is true.. there is alot more to a TL box mathwize

snfsh79077
01-22-2008, 10:04 PM
well i would need to build my baffle out like 2inches to do that. i wanted to build the enclosure i calculated and then another using what i learned from the website indepth to see what happens. however, my depth has shut me down..

Immacomputer
01-22-2008, 11:12 PM
I'm going to be building a transmission line soon for my room and it's only slightly larger than my current enclosure which is 2.2 cubes tuned to 32hz. This is for a 12" sub.

Not having a ton of room isn't going to keep you from building some t-lines. You also don't usually tune to the resonant frequency of the sub.

snfsh79077
01-22-2008, 11:18 PM
i have all the room i need it was just the throat width i came up with was to shallow for my sub
