View Full Version : smaller than recommened boxes
if a company recommends 2.0 cu ft for a 12" sub and you decide to put it in a box thats 1.5 - 1.7 cu ft instead......... what happens to the sound? does it audibly change i.e. can u actually hear a different sound?

For a broad and over generalized question, I'll give a broad and over generalized answer:
The sub will not play as low, will generally start to develop peaks in the upper bass regions, and will have a more aggressive/punchy sound. Also, cone control will be increased and excursion will be lessened.
And yes, there will be a difference in how it sounds.
