Well I finally got the box for the Mach 5 built. Here is a few pics of the box. I wish I had step by step pics of the build by my camera was messed up. Anyways. The box is 3.5 cubes, tuned to 32 hz. Has an inch thick plexiglass front and a mirror in the back. also has 10 pink LEDS(the box is for my girlfriend). Right now i just painted it flat black. I will probably cover it with something else later on but for now the paint will do. I also hooked each voicecoil to its own terminal so you can changed up the ohm load on the fly. In the pics there is white silicone around the edge of the plexiglass, once it dries it will be clear. On with the pics

First, here is a couple pics of my woodworking shop. 4 table saws(the big one we named JAWS lol), planer, lathe, 3 chop saws, drill press, 2 routers and tons of other misc. woodworking tools. Definately everything you could need. Kinda messy tho.

Looks nice, hope she likes it. I would have cleaned up the silicone that oozed past the edges of the plexi though as it will still show, even though it's clear.

Maybe once it's dry pull the sub and peel it off with a razor knife...

Yeah, I was planning on scraping it with a razor. I used a putty knife to try to get it off but since it wasnt dry it was just making a bigger mess

OH,will that plexi effect the box at all? Like if i did a spl orientied box with a plexi glass front would that "hurt" the box than over using Mdf?

You would just have to make sure it is thick enough to not flex. With an inch thickness, it is just as sturdy is MDF.

Ok well i'm doing it with 2 Fi 15inch Bl's :) Could i Slot the top and not ruin the look? or is their a reason you slotted the bottom? I was thinking slotting inbetween the 2 subs.

I dont think it would hurt by slotting the top. I just slotted the bottom because it would sound better that way because of the car it is going into.

Eh there are gonna be haters as well as fans. IMO in looks decent, not as good as i wanted but it will look better when I cover it. Care to explain why it looks bad rather than just giving a general " oh its a POS for no apparent reason" ?

like i said im not trying to be a **** but since you asked, half rounded corners and half not ? i understand that some pieces touch plexi with 90 degree angles but you can sand plexi to come closer to matching then it does... also wayyyyy too much calking, half the screws look like they were countersunk and half dont with un filled holes. The paint actually looks more like vehicle under liner.... etc... not enough coats on the ports and we can see wood through... leds in boxes ****... your pieces of wood arent aligned well although better then lots we see around here you could of sanded and filled the edges to look uniform... it looks like a really amature wood working and car audio job on a basic box... when someone has those kind of resources i would expect much better quality... like i said sorry if im being a ****... i would imagine with that kind of shop you are capable of some decent carpentry and that box doesnt look like the quality i would expect from anyone who has done a decent amount of wood working in their past.

It is actually only the second box I have built. It is not completely done yet. I still have some sanding and a coat of paint left to go. I will be filling the screw holes so they will not show. I have only had access to this shop for the past few weeks so I am just now starting out doing carpentry. I appreciate the pointers and will try to work those out next time I build a box.

Put a stencil around the plexi where the glue is. Something like true-flame or electricity (http://www.cobb.k12.ga.us/~Simpson/Teacher%20Sites/Teacher%20Sites/Electricity.jpg).

Alright sounds good. Im selling out of audio for now until I get my truck goin. I just got an '89 Ford Ranger with a 302 in it:) The plan is to have it bagged by next fall.

I am 4/5 static on my s-10. I kinda wished I could get bags without the hassel of of bags.

I love the newer body style rangers. When you bag em the negative camber is **** as hell, eats tires like crazy but still **** lol. Only thing I hate about rangers is the dang I-beam suspension. Thinking about just putting a Toyo front clip on it to do away with it.

I hear ya flip. Bags can be a pain in the butt. My buddy has a bagged ranger, it has been on bags for 4 years and he has had no problems. He is gentle with it tho, only runs 1/2 inch lines so they arent abused.

If I had bags, I would bounce them...couldn't help it.

Or atleast try.

If I had bags I would be draggin all the time. I better save up for a ticket fund cuz I know they will be coming. Here is a pic of my buddies ranger, he does fiberglass work for $25 an hour if anybody needs a speaker box built. Also in that pic the entire interior has not been sanded or anything, thats how it came right out of the gun.

Is aftermarket support for the ranger as strong as the s-10 as far as lowering is concerned. In 5 years or so, I may want something new.

JLJunkieMX107
10-09-2007, 03:57 PM
Its getting more popular but definately not as strong as the s-10. Rangers are much harder to bag and what not which is why more people go for the S-10's. The engine bay is also very tight. A 350 conversion on an s-10 is not terribly hard to do, but fitting this 302 in the ranger was hell. One good thing I have found about older rangers is that most mustang parts match up:) Ive got a mustang 8.8 rear end on the ranger

Here is whats been done so far, put in a 302 motor out of a early 80's mustang, it had low miles on it when i tore it down so i just put a mild cam in it and all new gaskets top to bottom with a new oil pump. Has a new 4 barrel holly 650 cfm carb, starter, alternator, everything for tranny, ford 9 inch, and 8.8 rear out of a mustang so it can tuck a reasonable offset tire. The smog heads have been replaced with refreshed ones. About to tear out the dash and shorten the steering column, my buddy is making a custom fiberglass dash completely free of charge(just gotta sport his sticker). I needed the steering column shortened cuz its a standard cab and Im 6'4" lol.
