View Full Version : single 15'' R box doing 152dB's

PSturmer
09-29-2007, 02:00 PM
i built this box last week. nothing special about it. only made of birch. it was for testing sub and port orientation in truck. something wierd i found was 36hz tuning is only .1 dB quieter than 45hz tuning. the box has 1 6'' aero facing back. did a 152.2 in the kick. it had about 3000 watts to it and some 16 gauge speaker :)

The only reason its doing 152 DBS is because its in the back of an suv... that is not hard to accomplish....

well yea being in an SUV helps, but thats still quite the task to accomplish in by book..

Mine was also in a much smaller space.

An SUV with that much air to pressurize isn't going to get as loud as easily, IMO.

It certainly is possible given the right circumstances, but I don't think THAT particular setup is capable of it.

But I've been proven wrong before.

it was not suppost to be spl but it worked out to be. its the smallest box i have used for the 15. its 2.66 cubes. you have more experience than me with these subs though.

16 gauge wire? I'm running only about 250w rms from my amp and I use 12 gauge wire. Wouldn't 3000 require at least 4 gauge or better?

yours is aswell.

speaker wire size doesn't depend on power..it depends on current. 8kw @ .125 ohms would be much harder on wire than 8kw @ 2 ohms.
If you running 8kw @ .125 ohms(~250 amps) you would need at least 2 guage speaker wire(i'm not hugely familiar w/ wire requirements for ac so larger may be required).. That is if your only using one positive and one negative run of speaker wire. I'm using that just for the sake of example. W/ 4kw @ .5 would require 4 guage.

The most i've seen anybody use for speaker wire is 8 gauge. That includes db drag where people have 30,000 watts PER sub.

Using 4 gauge is completely unnecessary.

i tested goign from 16 gauge to 8 gauge running 5kw on a single sub, difference of maybe .1 db, but when you get to that point .1 db is hard to determine if its voltage or something else

It wasn't a large difference. A few tenths (.3 i believe).

That can be easily made up in other areas. :)

I'm squeezing every tenth out of the setup and power I have now, so once I add more power I hope it's just ridiculously loud. :)

 It's all fine and dandy, but I'm always looking for more. :)

Seeing as I only have about 2500 on tap right now, even going to something like 4kw should be good enough for me. :)

I know this 9515 is begging for more power. :D

X2 :eek:: itll be krazy loud I have to work on my enclosure some more this winter :D

I remember Tommy mentioning those Crunches before. The gp3000d looks real nice. Very beefy. Should put out some real power.

Seem VERY promising from the testing I've seen. :)

Jay thomson (aka pornstar) runs them in his smax 1-2 truck and loves them.

I am interested to see what kind of results you get.

You would have to ask the people who have done some serious testing with them.

Here's a thread that discusses the gp3000d along with the rest of the new crunch amps.

Make sure you are looking at the GP series. this is the only one i've seen on there.

Actually, that is the right model. The amp in the pic looks too small but those are the right specs and model number. I dont know about buying from that site. I would contact Maxxsonics directly and find an authorized dealer just to be safe. That site looks a little:wow:

Definitely not it, not for that price.

That most likely the 3000 MAX rated model, or just a complete ripoff.

A legitimate price is the $650-700 range. I know that cardomain sells them for that much too. I'd say that $650 is a d*mn good price for a 3000+ watt amp. :)
