I've read great things about both of these HU's and I've seen a few for sale under $300. I just don't know which one to go with so I want some opinions from people with experience.

If it makes a difference, I don't plan on putting together a sophisticated system. Just something simple with passive crossovers.

What is a "good deal" price on either one?

Lastly, do either of these units come with a detachable face? Sorry for so many questions, but thanks in advance for your help.

a cd7000 for under 300 is a good deal IMO

I have had the 880prs for over a year now. I honestly couldn't be happier. I have never head a problem with it. The preccessing is great has really good sound to it. And the fine tuning you have with it is top notch. Also the 880 does have a detatch face. MY buddy had a cd 7000 also a great unit seemed to have alot of the same features as the 880 but they both their own unique qualities.

So I can't go wrong either way, right?

Would you pay $280shipped for either one BNIB?

Why get a HU that does active if you're only going to run passive? Do you plan on runnng active in the future? If not I'd save some $$$ and get something else.

With that said I literally just finished setting xovers, EQ'ing my 880prs. SQ is excellent and I really like the looks of it.

^^I do NOT plan to upgrade again anytime soon. This brings up a good point.

With my setup, is it even necessary or beneficial to have something like the 880prs or the CD7000? If your answer is NO, then please give me some good suggestions that will match my setup.

Thanks for all help.

With either of those not running active will severely limit their capability and doesn't make a whole lot of senes.

Even if you are not going active, I think these HU's are still worthwhile. Take for example the CD7000, you can use the 7 band PEQ and take advantage of the time alignment feature to help tweak the sound to you liking. In the future if you get a set of speakers that can be bi-amped, you will be able to time align the tweeter and the mid seperately, as well as have a PEQ with 11 bands.

The time alignment features alone make the decks worthwhile. Even with pyramid highs you will be able to tell a difference between a deck with it and without it.

Thanks for the input, guys.

As most of you have mentioned, I can't go wrong with either HU so I purchased an Eclipse CD7000. A good buddy of mine has the P880PRS so I sort of wanted to get something different for comparison sake. Also, the main reason why I chose the Eclipse over the Pio was the really good deal I found on the Eclipse. Again, thanks for your help.

Let us know how it sounds once you have it hooked up.

The Eclipse CD7000 just went in this past weekend and I'm thoroughly satisfied with the upgrade. I never thought that a better HU will make a HUGE difference, but this upgrade has just confirmed to me that a system can only sound as good as its weakest link. The CD7000 >>> Pioneer DEH-4400. :)

You are also comparing a bottom of the line pioneer unit, to one of eclipses best models...

^ I know the old Pio is junk compared to Eclipse's '06 top-of-the-line model. I was just so surprised to find how much difference a better headunit can make.
