prefab ported? A properly built ported box will always be louder then sealed.

id def stay with ported especially with L7s they dont really like to be sealed up. average 3 dB gain ported over sealed tell these fools u run into they are car audio tards.

sealed L7 < "properly tuned" ported L7

Agreed. But an L7 in an adequately sized sealed box can sound good, IMO. Won't have the output of a proper ported box.

you should get dimensions of your box and post them and they we can let you know if the box is "properly tuned."

alright. its 36w x 13t x 24d. It has an 6 inch port that goes back 17.25 with a 15 in port inside the box. the port makes an L. Its suppose to tuned to 33 but my bass is still not deep enuuf. Im bottoming out. I cut the port in half with a piece of wood. It helped but not enough tho. Should I tune lower???

DejaWiz

You can tune higher if you feel you'll like it better.

Nah, its just a question. Im at 33 and dnt like it, i dnt want to go any higher. lol

Still having problems eh??? Did you think my system got low enough? How about Bamaboy's? Did his get low enough for you? Bamaboy is tuned to 34 Hz and I am tuned to 39 Hz. A well designed box for your car tuned to 33 Hz should be more than capable of getting very low while maintaining a relatively loud output level.

Should I tune lower???:uhoh: So you have a slot port and a round port in the same box, am I hearing this correct? What it sounds like is your box tuning is WAAAY off. With just the round port, you're tuned at 26hz. That is FAR too low for car audio. Now with this rectangle port also, there's no way to predict what the box is tuned at. We need to see pics of the box immediately.

Yeah man, you should be hitting much higher than 131 with two L7s off good power.

x200 just go with a standard L shape ported enclosure tuned to 34-36hz with 5-5.5 cubes and you should be fine

that is if they are 12's

thats what i have. the 1 slot port. Its all the way to the left side of the box. I was saying it goes back and make an L. I dont have a round port. Its suppose to b 6.5 externally and 5. somthing internally.

12's but, i have cvx's now. Is that a problem??? I let a friend borrow my subs and he cant get the box out the trunk, so I have his cvx"s now. With me changin from square to round, will that be a downgrade???

lots of people told me to put my type r 15 in a ported box...well i have it in a sealed box running off of 1000 rms daily and gets effing loud. And you will have the most accuracy with a sealed box. Sealed sounds good as well. oh by the way I have a 1994 honda civic (trunk car) and my sub sealed has no problems shaking my door handles, mirrors, seats, center console, trunk lid, hub caps etc. and it hits loowwwwwwwwwww.

if you can build a good ported box....or pay someone to build you a good ported box...it will be just as accurate.

but i do love the fact that your alpine is shaking your hubcaps....must sound nice rollin down the street

Nope, not necessarily a downgrade at all. It's going to be highly install dependent. Just think of all the times we've heard 8" or 10" subs outperform (in SPL and/or accuracy) their 12" or 15" brethren because the smaller subs were installed with care and attention to detail where as the larger subs were thrown in some off the shelf prefab box and sound like teh poo.

There's just too many factors.

o ok. Come to find out, I killed my back battery, my setup sounded like poop!!! I have a redtop back there now. what could have cause the back battery to die???

PV Audio
09-21-2007, 07:18 AM
Exceeding its current draw (aka needing too many Ah when it cannot supply). Fully discharged the battery most likely.

o ok. cantn someone tell me what this box is tuned to??? 34w x 13t x 24d It has (2) 2in ports that goes back 17 5/8 and then a 90 degree pivot that goes 5.5 inches.

I can tell just by looking at what you wrote that the box is tuned FAR too low, like <15hz low. Let me calculate this real quick.

PV Audio
09-21-2007, 01:46 PM
Okay, I was right. Using 3/4" wood and counting the subs' displacement as .5 cubic feet, you're tuned at 12.7~ hz. That tuning is two octaves too low. I wouldn't even tune a home theatre enclosure that low. If you took out the ports altogether and just left the 2" holes, you'd be tuned at 37hz, which is livable.

lmao!!!! I had this box built about a year ago. I sold it to a friend. For it to be tuned that low, Im doing serious damage. ok, check this out. I want to change since u said some thing now. 36w x 24d x 13t What size port should I do eith a 90 degree pivot???
