i apologize for the title to late to change it
i was supposed to get 15s but they were reconed as 18s. a simple misunderstanding. no big deal tho

i have a 97 tahoe 4 door.

doing 4 mt 18s
2500 on each

any suggestions for the box????

the area i have to work with it
47 w
40 l
25 h

i can go up to 38 inches for the height but would like to keep them below the glass.

I have (4) MT 15's in my suburban. 3.2 ft^3 each (12.8 total), 208 inches of port tuned to 36 Hz.

You already have the MT's? I'll sell you (4). . .

****, you got almost 24 cubic feet internal using the 25" height. definatly dont need to go above that 25" mark

dont know much about the mt's but my 15's have always sat in 4 cubes each with tuning around 32-35hz.

Looking good so far. Going to be a LOT of work, but it'll slam when done. I've only heard one MT 18 in 8.5cubes @35Hz with 1200watts and it pounded the lows like crazy...

after displacement i ended up with almost 18 cu ft
since im not putting 4k or more on each sub the smaller box will do d**n good for my power

its in a tahoe 4 door so it should be pretty decent.

if you check out the install i did on my girls celica you will see theres no way im going to use plain old black or grey carpet

not purple for sure

my interior is tan leather that will get some ideas going
not going to use leather tho

tomorrow will be like xmas when i get off work
my EA alt should be here
hoping my 3 other batteries show up
subs should be here by Wed

then i can get the box complete

im going to do all the bracing tomorrow when i get home probably. its 2 inches thick right now but im sure the subs would still tear it apart with the bracing.

right now the box itself is pushing 250 maybe 300 pounds

going to salvage yard tomorrow diring lunch to pick up some 3/4 ton or 1 ton springs for the rear.

as if the box isnt heavy enough it will have 250 pounds of subs op top.

i will add more pics tomorrow depending on what i get done with it.

cant wait to do the elect. 4 runs of 0ga in the frame rail
ill probably run them in a pvc pipe and have a cut out in the floor of the rear storage areapvc all the way to the floor then seal it with a crap load of epoxy

bones22
09-16-2007, 11:55 PM
before i put the top on along with bracing im also planning on taking my router to all corners in the box to round them off

nothing was delivered. well not for the build anyway. my zrs 10 made it back from cadence. like new again. just need to find someone to buy it now.

Alt will be here tomorrow so i can get started on the wiring at least

BIG change on plans on the suspension. not going to waste money on old used leaf spring. AIR BAGS goin on thursday to support all the weight

well huge change of plans. if anyone has seen my thread over in classifieds im gettin screwed on the subs i bought.

was supposed to be 4 15" MTs
were reconded as 18s

they havent been delivered and the seller wont take my calls or make contact in anyway with me

Cadence came thro for me again tho

all Cadence set up
will be 4 Daytona RVC 15s now

going to work on the box today. had to scrap a full sheet of 3/4 MDF that was doubled up since i already cut holes for the 18s
thanks to the seller for costing me so much on this project now

will post pics this evening
working on bracing, new top, and hopefully cover the SOB
the material i got to cover it needs to get out of the house before it gets screwed up. NOT CARPET

Those dowels aren't really going to do much :(

But looks good overall :)

they are really only there to supprt the weight. they are 1 1/2 inches dia.

the box is 2 inches thick on all sides

the reason i used the dowels in the box rather than using mdf or something else simply they let air flow around them freely.

thanks for the compliment. i just hope i can get it together and the material on it tonight. we will probably run the wiring as well. using pvc inside the frame rail to keep it from getting hung up or something. afterall it is a 4x4 and i do use it like a truck

this isnt car audio but with all that weight i had to put an air suspension in the rear. too the better part of yesterday

i didnt go all out for the compressor and everything cause i dont need it. if i need air i can get out and put it in

mlstrass
09-21-2007, 11:29 PM
Anything else to hate on with his build?

Dowels will help if they're tying 2 sides together same as threaded rod. I've built several boxes like that and they never flexed and the dowels stayed in place.

Spot in the bumper looks functional to me and works for you, so it's all good...

^^ completely agree. UPS will laugh at the person turning in the claim. shipping peanuts and 62 lb sub, like the peanuts are going to cushion it. when i went to UPS, the guy told me what they do when claims get filed is that if the package can sustain damage off a 4 foot drop test, most likely it would be covered.

If you pay an authorized shipping center to pack your items and they are broken the carrier HAS to pay the claim no matter how crappy the packing is. It happened to me... I was sent 18" BTLs in nothing but trash bags and peanuts and they were absolutely destroyed beyond reason. They paid the claim as an authorized shipping store did it :)

I agree. If someone is trying to get rid of something fast they sell it dirt cheap. If someone wants to buy it and sit on it to make a profit. Oh the hell well!! It is their money and if you think the product is not worth what they are asking then don't buy it.

Good luck on the UPS insurance man. If you decide to sell the motors look my way I might be interested.

***** about the woofers man, I was going to build crates and a customer came in while I was working on them and told me there was a place that packed them for you...so I decided to try em out.

Definately the last time I"ll do that...I was taking Terras woofer there today when you called, so I had to come back to the shop and finish one of the crates..

Worst case I'll buy the motors back from you and use them for something.

UPS is supposed to call me tomorrow about the claim

didnt buy for profit. although after having to get other subs and then everything getting resolved no reason in having 4 15s and 4 18s.
you hate scumbags. i guess the same way i as many people hate people whose lives revolve around starting **** and dumping on others.

It's cool to buy low and sell high. I mean if someone is willing to buy at that price then why not? I just wouldnt have done it in another forum. Maybe on ebay or Craigslist or something.

i am actually doing a box right now. ~22 cubes gross. its for 4 15'' type R in a 2000 denali. so similiar truck. everything will be double layered 3/4'' mdf and the top will be triple layered. sheet count will be a little over 4. will have 5 6'' aero ports. 14 cubes net tuned to 35 hz. still deciding on power. kinetik batts and either 5k or 10k rms.
