fart box for memphis PRshttp://img214.imageshack.us/img214/8559/dscf4198mx8.jpg
originally designed to use 4 5 inch ports at 16'' each
but after the realization that i cant get 5 inch pvc
went with 4 6 inch ports at 25'' each
though, after factoring outer diameter half way through the build, i decided to go with 3 6 inch ports at 18'' each

so, the box originally being a 3cuft common chamber, and most of it being built already, i switched to the 3 6"ers
by doing that it gave the shared chamber a good 7 inches leading to the common chamber bing about 3.75 (after displacement cuft instead of 3cuft
changing the tuning from 55 Hz to around 47-52 Hz

im not too disapointed with the turnout
its not meant to look good
its not meant to sound good
its meant to get ****ing loud for the dBDrag of sorts at highschool days at cordova on the 23rd
(well, not ****ING loud, but louder than my 37 hz Daily box
i made the collector plate of sorts after being inspired by the theory of ports that begin and terminate in flush pannels acting differently
and also inspiration from pete k.s crossover box

not really gonna know any numbers or results untill the 21st when im putting it in mah jeep

I like. The stenciling looks cool too... nice and clean and not overdone. Ported back?
How far will they be from the gate? I don't really know anything about it, but couldn't that change tuning somehow?

What are you doing about laying it on top of the folded down seat? Whenever I have to put a box there while hauling cargo alot of the bass gets "soaked up" by the looseness of the seat.

MemphisCherokee
09-03-2007, 09:55 PM
hahaha, the stencil i used was something i cut out of cardobard with a razor knife in about 45 seconds, figured the rougher it looked, the more ****** it would look
port back, yes
im not sure how far away from the hatch, the day i put it in im going to have a test tone with the meter going and move it around and see wahs louder
as for the seat, the actual part your *** is on is coming out so that tha box can lay a bit flatter and not be as cushioned

question here: by making a box with those PVC tubes will it make it sound louder?

MemphisCherokee
09-15-2007, 08:58 AM
nope, just a different way of porting it
easyer in my opinion
when they tubes are flared it can make em a bit louder though

hahaha, it actually ***** ***
not as loud as my old slot ported street beater
i was in the process of trying different positions and such when i over excurted (sp?) one of the subs
eh, oh well, warranty fixes all
anyways, any of you guys have any opinions or suggestions of how far away from the hatch it should be? (i know, atleast 6 inches) how far away from the headliner it should be? angles?
i made it the shape it is so that i could position it differently if need be

installed pics in a few minutes

so you're going to lay it lengthwise down the middle of the jeep with the back seat down? I cant tell if you have a 4 door or 2 door. I shyed away from firing subs up in my jeep, I got more loud just firing the sub and ports off the back door, but im sure you'll do ok ;)

it may be a different vehicle, but when I had the box about 2" from the back of my old Explorer it was decently louder on the meter than when I pushed it farther forward... food for thought.

Well, the box would look a lot better completely painted. But the box design looks real good on the first page.

i'd like to have it handy

09-19-2007, 04:45 PM

any certain distance away from the headliner it should be to get better results?
i heard that it should be on the side opposite of the side you meter on, is this true?

heh im peaking at 35 hz at the moment :naughty:

what do you mean by "headliner" ? you should keep the ports about 1-2" from the rear door, and really you want to build up pressure in the opposite rear corner of the jeep from the mic. At least that's what ive found in the 2.3 million box'es ive had in my jeep in the last 3 years

Well, to each his own, but I was thinking that if you painted the whole box black, it would blend in with the rest of the jeep's interior a lot better. That way, it won't be as obvious to people passing by your car that you have a bunch of audio in the back.

ive always heard that the subs, when firing up, should be close to something like the headliner
or when you're firing back they should't be too far away from the hatch

the tint is so **** dark you can barely see anyways
besides.... that sheet laying in there by the drivers seat.....
i throw that bish over it when im parking it for a while

if he's got 10% or less on the windows, you really cant see to much in jeep's anyways. I think his box looks great.

you too snoopdan...ive always heard 4-5"..but you say 1-2"? im not gonna doubt you either considering your accomplishments, but thats two people in two different SUV's and i would like to know (i own an explorer).

i think the O.P.'s subs are wayyyyyyyy too far ahead of where they should be... if you look they are past the door jamb in the back, thats not good (in my opinion, I could be wrong)...

and I was at the last SLAP show up here (t3audios_160sdbjeep was there too, in Sanford) and I actually lost 3/10db by moving my box ahead towards the windshield about 2"... Im not sure why in the hell I did that but it wasnt my Explorer it was my buddies since my CRX **** the bed. In hindsight, I would have pushed the thing nearly all the way to the back. I know Toby's box is pretty snug against the back of his Explorer/Mountaineer/whatever he is using now or at least it was...

i have been told a few times by competitors that you want to have the boxes as close to the hatch as possible (at least in explorers). i dont compete so take that with a grain of salt

also, whose Toby?

CRXBMPN
09-19-2007, 05:33 PM
err my bad, Toby is a buddy who has an Explorer and just switched out to a Mountaineer.

yes subs and port closer to hatch/rear area, as opposed to box being so long that half of the sub box is on back seat...

thats my opinion, take it with a grain of salt lol

IgnoreMe

i meant in my last post that i have heard from many competitors that you want to have the SUBS as close to the back (near the hatch) of the box as possible.

Really anything in the range of 2-5 inches is where you need to start testing what is better for your setup. I also suggest taking off the back door interior panel and filling the entire door full of spray foam (but obviously not the door lock, lol) Also filling your rear quarter panels with "something" weather it be foam, insulation, whatever - but something dense enough to fill the voids in the body. That would be a great aim in the right direction.
