Get a V6 Accord.

Problem solved.

Performance and save gas just doesn't really seem to go together.

Check into a performance chip.

The first step to answering your question would be to get a clue as to the function of vehicular powertrains.

lolololololololollol

but to answer your question...

You cannot help performance and save gas at the same time. If you want to help performance heres some of my suggestions.

1. get the U-bend replaced with a straight piece of pipe.

GM decided that they wanted to mount the rear O2 sensor vertically which results in the picture below. Replacing the u-bend will free up some HP.

http://www.pfyc.com/mm5/graphics/new/wb5001.jpg

2. Get a CAI or FWI (fenderwell intake)

Id suggest the NAIOA FWI, but I think they stopped being made so they may be hard to find.

3. reprogrammed PCM.

They're only $100 and its well worth it from what I hear.

PCM (http://www.3800performance.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=PCM_IMP_V1&Category_Code=PCM&Product_Count=4)

Contrary to what appears to be popular belief, modifiying a car for performance purposes, will quite often improve efficiency. If a simple bolt-on worsens your economy ratings, then you lost some power. When a car makes more power, the engine is under less stress at cruising speeds, and is usually at a lower RPM. The threshold at which, this usually changes, is when you have to modify the fuel system. By modifying the fuel system, I mean making the AFR richer to support modifications. A good intake system, a decent exhaust, and some good plugs/wires should help wake the car up a little, and actually improve mileage, as long as you drive like a civilized human being.

I think them rims look good on the car.

But with the bigger rim it does hurt your gas mileage. Besides that, there's not much to do to increase mileage and hp at the same time. When you increase your hp your also going to want to drive it harder, which will make your mpg drop like crazy. But to increase both here's pretty much your only options.

1. Cold Air intake
2. Synthetic Fluids
3. Exhaust

I've seen as much as 2 mpg just by synthetic fluids everywhere.

thanks man ya ive played around with it a little to try to save gas but right now i do about 22.5 mpg in the city just seeing if i can get a little more. ya i know about the rim size and that effect on gas. There only 18s tho so its not doing too badd.

bigger air filter. Remove your catalytic converter(illegal). douse your car with teflon(joke) basically the only way to do this and save gas is to improve the flow of air in and out of your engine which would be intake and exhaust

OK so I was mistaken about the engines available on an old Impala. Doesn't matter, cause they're both slow. And I guarantee, as far as general knowledge of engines and cars in general goes, I'm better off than most people.

I say cheap, because it is just that.. cheap (kbb lists a retail value of $14,305 for a 2003 with 15000 miles. i used 15k miles because that is what my truck has on it, you know.. fair comparison.)http://www.kbb.com/KBB/UsedCars/PricingReport.aspx?ManufacturerId=9&YearId=2003&VehicleClass=UsedCar&VehicleId=OC8yOS8yMDA3fDE5MjM%3d&SelectionHistory=1923%7c4048%7c55921%7c0%7c0%7c732 11%7ctrue%7c73209%7cfalse%7c73209%7ctrue%7c73250%7 ctrue%7c73265%7ctrue%7c73260%7cfalse%7c73274%7ctru e%7c539019%7ctrue&PriceType=Retail&Mileage=15000&ModelId=46&Condition=Excellent
lincoln- retail is $28810...- http://www.kbb.com/KBB/UsedCars/PricingReport.aspx?ManufacturerId=28&YearId=2003&VehicleClass=UsedCar&VehicleId=OC8yOS8yMDA3fDI2OTY%3d&SelectionHistory=2696%7c4048%7c55921%7c0%7c0%7c106 265%7ctrue%7c106275%7ctrue%7c106290%7ctrue%7c10630 5%7ctrue%7c106329%7ctrue%7c106362%7ctrue&PriceType=Retail&Mileage=15000&ModelId=192&Condition=Excellent

hate to say it, but 00~04 impalas (or whatever year gen they are) are complete garbage.

Ferendon

You're deciding the fate of an entire generation of cars, based on personal experience, with a SINGLE one of them? Someone's an idiot.

Just because it's not the kind of car you like, no need to bash on anyone. FYI, the 3800 is one of the best motors Chevy has made to date, and is indeed the best V6 they've ever made. The front suspension on those cars has some issues, but it's a heavy FWD car. Suspension issues are to be expected.

I have to disagree with you on that one. My mom has an 04 Impala LS and I love the car. She hasnt had any problems in it. It has the 3800 engine and is fairly quick for being a huge 4 door sedan.

I might buy the supercharger kit thats on the SS Impalas. Its about $1000 for everything you need to add the Eaton supercharger to a N/A 3800. And since N/A Impalas have higher compression I'll make more HP and TQ than a stock supercharged 3800 from the factory. With and exhaust and intake along with the supercharger that car should make around 280 hp and 300tq. :D

I like the rims on the Impala. I'm not a big fan of the style of the car, but in my experience they are decent cars.

Regarding the Navigator - 58k new, and now it's worth 30,000 less after 15k miles? Brutal. Nature of depreciation I suppose, but good god.
