I am thinking of buying this mid:

How do I know if it will do well IB in a regualr door?

I haven't had alot of luck getting good midbass from Morel speakers IB. I love the way they sound otherwise, and a little EQ work helps out alot... when I've used them I ended up crossing at ~80 Hz and doing a bit of EQ on them and they worked out well, but I was never satisfied crossing them lower.

Generally low Qts drivers don't have the best IB response down low... there are exceptions, of course, like the Adire Koda and the Tang-Band 6.5 "subwoofer" both of which are low Qts with great midbass.

Look for high Qts(preferably 0.5+) and a Vas close to the airpace or exceeding that of your doors. Most low Qts drivers need alot of electrical compensation to deal with dips in the freq response, for the most part the lower end rolls off drastically. I'm not opposed to using eq to correct things, but ideally you want cut than have to boost-as boosting often sounds unatural, forced and lacks plasticity and in the end all you are doing is stressing the centrings on the driver and shotening the drivers lifespan.

I am trying to find some high qts drivers with less than 2.5" mounting depth.

A lot of the DIY drivers are 7" or 6".

How does the morel I posted differ from the car audio version?

Morels raw drivers are highly overpriced. I used the H8.1's at one point with ok results. Had i known better i would've just tried some Dyns that are tooled for the car, which is what I use now. I'm actually getting better midbass out of the box- clarity and impact using my dyns over the H8.1's albeit near 1" diference in driver size.

Thanks....those dyns aren't cheap, but seem well worth the price.
