a couple wks ago, I got a new boost contorller on my bike, and me and my buddy Mikey slowe did some tuning w/ my new plenum/injectors.........
The best run is w/ 23 pound of boost and c16.......usually on pump gas I see around 320rwhp now..........
Last fall, w/ 348rwhp, I went 8.44@167 in the 1/4, so I'm hoping for 8.0's or close to it............pix

Is 400 hp a lot for a bike?

as a reference, bone stock, it made 164rwhp, and 97lb/ft, and I had it to 190mph, and 9.78-1/4 mile......it also did 85 mph in 1st gear........

Now, I can be in 5th gear doing 150, and crack the throttle, and instantly be looking @ the sky......also can haze the tire @ that speed @ will.....

yes, I ride it 4-5 times a week.......it rides just like stock off boost, but turns evil w/ even a little boost......The whoooooosh is LOUD as hell, and the wastegate is noisy, but all in all....not too bad. My right leg gets a little warm....(note the dump exhaust in pic below). I had just liability insurance b4, and it was only $225 a year, but after my firend and neighbor was killed on his, I got full cov'g, and its $899 a year....And I never even go around the block w/o my helmet.
Believe it or not, on pump gas, and off boost, cruising, I average about 35mpg, but worse, as my hang gets happy................a couple pix............

once you get used to the extended swingarm, power, and how low it is, its fine.....It doesnt take corners like it used to, but this is my top speed and 1/4 bike, as is my stang, and my '01 gixxer 1000 is the corner carver

Ummmmm, yes?

Seeing as an LS1 camaro Z28 has a little over 300 horsepower and weighs 3400 pounds, I'd say that 400 horsepower on something that weighs 600 pounds is a lot. :)

fantastick bike man, glad to hear bout the helmet. and all in all with the insurance and gas milage its not a bad commuter. I bet you turn heads when hit the throttle and your tire goes sky high in any gear then comes the woosh....... lol....

it being stretched hinders it a little, but I dont ride the twisties w/ it too much....I mean...its not a tank to turn. I can still scrape the footpeg bottom, but I'd much rather put my garmin gps in my pocket, and do top speed bursts...

Your bike is amazing! WAY too much power for me though....I mean WAY too much. I think you should disclaimer that you are a pro rider and that you ALWAYS wear gear before some of these younger guys try to mimic it. yea......the swingarm is extended, and its adjustable between 7-8" over stock. See the pic above??? You can see how the back tire is actually sticking past the hump/tail light area....a stock swingarm length has the tire sitting inside/under the tail....I'll find a pic from before I extended it......

well, from experience tell him to do the following before putting the plastics back on............................
make sure he puts masking tape on every single edge piece before he starts. It'll save him tons of scratches afterwards!!!! As long as he pulls the masking tape off b4 he completely tightens all the bolts......hard lesson to learn:(

Yea, E, turbo bikes are ***** to launch.....but I havent gotten to the track since the newfound power. I've done some shakedown runs to get used to the bike for the 1st 60', and one time it smokes the tire thru 3 gears, but the next time it'll have me looking skyward instantly.....scary stuff. I'll def be 8-0's when alls said 'n' done, and it'll be spinning alot then as well. Guys I just wanna give an update in the dragstrip times since my newfound turbo busa power.
Since the lesser power, I've been constantly going to the strip, and widdling my times down almost every week. For the last few weeks, however, I've been stuck @ 8.11 @ 179 and was getting pissed that I couldnt better myself.
Well, after some tuning and shake down runs last nite, on the second to last run of the nite, I FINALLY broke into the 7's, w/ a personal best ever on a bike..........
7.98@184!!!!!
I was soooo excited that I blew the last run, but didnt even care about it. It was finally cool later in the evening, and I just hooked the best I ever have, and I knew by the 60' that I had it.
I an just so relieved that my and my friends work finally paid off, and I'll keep you posted for I will be @ Cecil County Dragway in Maryland Friday(tomorrow) nite.

no...I was in the 350 range @ the wheel before, and I now have just over 400 @ the wheel. Its only 50 rwhp more, but its like a whole new animal to ride because the suspension is maxxed out now. Its a crap shoot on every pass. 1 run, I'll launch and spin thru 4 gears, and the next, I'd just lift the wheel, and abort, and the next, it'll be a good pass. Between the high boost, and the aggressive clutch, its a lot of work becoming consistent, buy I think its coming together now.

Eugenics
07-20-2007, 12:36 PM
snap. i think when you're riding something that light it's not a matter of only 50 hp, even if you are at 400 already. must be a beast, i'd love to ride a bike like that. Even though you probably have to idle it on the highway.

Yea....that bike is actually a historical bike for us busa guys. It had the VERY BEST of all the parts on it....it even had 1 off suspension parts right off a AMA bike, and the whole thing cost very close to $75,000.
I, however have, bike included, close to $24,000 into it. W/ $6,000+- more, I can have it up to 550 rwhp, and redo the whole suspension, but that will be a future project. I love trying to get the most I can out of a setup, and will not change any parts until I do so.
I will only need to get a new air shifter, because the 1 I have on there now doesnt like shifting under 25+ lbs of boost.

The bike will now finally destroy my car @ the track, but on the street from a roll, the car OWNS the bike until 180, when the car just runs out of gear. I've been a best of 8.25@171 w/ the car, so its getting there.
Thanks for the compliments

yes, I ride it 4-5 times a week.

You cruise 4-5 times a week on a bike with a extended swingarm?

I bet it likes the dragstrip more than the street corners. ;)

jonnybusa
07-20-2007, 04:04 PM
It still takes corners fairly well, as long as I dont take sharp turns and corners super fast. If ridden properly, you would not be able to tell its extended.

Yea....that bike you say on Pinks is actually a street bike. It rides on the street all the time, and is well mannered on the street. woooooow. that car is insane. what do u do besides work at a motorcycle shop cause theres a LOOOT of money in that car, and bike.

Actually, I dont work @ or own a motorcycle shop. I just have friends that do, and I've been building cars and bikes for a while now.
I actually work for a moving company, ATLAS VAN LINES, and own and operate my own tractor and trailer. I have a brand new Kenworth tractor, and its the 1st year w/ a twin turbo setup. Its fast and efficient as hell.

Yes, that car has alot tied up in it. More than money though, there is hundreds and hundreds of man hours involved in it w/ testing and tuning. The car is a street car 1st, and has registration and insurance, and I drive it a couple times a week. Its not even close to a drag race suspension...its more a street setup, and it took alot of time getting the right parts and tuning the suspension to handle the +1300rwhp. It now clocks of consistent 1.25 sec 60' times, which is insane for any car, let alone one that I sometimes drive home after I destroy all the trailered cars.

Ku, yes I want you to, but I am throwing around the idea of getting an suv, and putting 2 newer version xxx 15's in it, so I dont know what box I want made yet. If I keep my car, I may do 3 xxx12's instead. I'm kinda bored w/ my setup and think I need a change.
I'll let you know as soon as I know.

Nah....my buddy Mike Slowe that was on Pinks has his shop, and my other buddy Steve owns "tricked Out Custom Cycles". You guys may have seen his work. He built a complete ground up 4 wheeled Busa thats a registered street legal bike..........Its simply amazing. I'll find a pic of it. He's been in all the magazines, and just came in 3rd place in a bike build-off in Vegas.

Philly area.
Here are some pix of Steve's work...."TRICKED OUT CUSTOM CYCLES". He was just on the bike building show in vegas that was also on TV called "Metric revolution."
Here's the street legal Busa 4 wheeler.....a 1 off....He builds them and sells them for $75,000.........

Here's the completely customized GSXR1000. He took parts off other bikes, and formed them to fit this one. Its a complete hybrid, called "SPAWN". It has a 300mm series tire, warlock spinners, full airbag suspension, and a 1 off exhaust. This is what he rides when we go riding in the city or a big bike spot town called New Hope..........

Just another update on the 1/4 times w/ my new setup on the busa.....This past friday nite I rode her to a personal new best of 7.88

The trap speed stayed exactly the same as my previous best, which shows that I've pretty much mastered launching the beast, and the 1st 330', which is the craziest, is really getting easier for me. Although I think I pretty much hit a wall and will not be able to shave any more time off, my time on the bike will now be to get dead consistent, because now I'm 1.5 to 2 tenths different from 1 run to the next. Thats not bad @ all....actually its amazing given the power level I'm dealing w/ on the bike, but the pros in my class are within a tenth or so every pass. They are fully sponsored, and have the blank check race programs, but I think I'm doing **** good for putting the whole bike together myself, and tuning it w/ the help of a few friends.
More to come soon...........

I had some good seat time last nite, and bested my previous best of 7.88 in the 1/4, and did a best of 7.78, which doesnt seem like a lot, but when you're going around 180, that 1/10 of a second ends up being a few bike lengths in the end, which is a pretty big difference.......

that would be bad........i have been going FAST before, around 180-200mph on the turnpike, and hit small bumps on the highway, and the jolt throws the *** end up for like 100 feet, and scares the hell outta me.....
The 1st time it happened, I sharted, but its cool now...lol....

Don't really wanna read 7 pages of responses, but that bike is sick. I'm in the process of fabbing a chassis for what will soon be an SR20DET shifter cart. I'm hoping to get the same kinds of times out of it. Rear engine, RWD, and aiming for ~450whp. The rotation of the engine should keep the front end down, and it'll have 275s on the back, and drag coilovers... We'll see...
