get the kicker amp. JL is a good, but overpriced. What is your price range? You can find many goodies if you have a good price range.

SLC's are great speakers. The setup you suggested yourself is actually pretty good.

No need for rear fill in a coupe. Spend that money on the front stage and a nice 2-channel amp. Ditch the rears altogether.

How about this?

Front comps: Rainbow SLC 265 Kicks about $280
Comps Amp: Blaupunkt VA4100 (http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_6755_Blaupunkt+VA4100.html) $160
Comp Active Xover: ICBM-7212 (http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_5879_Performance+Teknique+ICBM-7212.html) $40
Rears (run off HU): Pioneer REV TS-D691R (http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_3659_Pioneer+TS-D691R.html) $110

TOTAL: $590 (+ wiring, deadening, etc if needed).

I agree with Hintzy, if you can swing a sub and amp now, do it. No need for rear fill at all.

not a bad suggestion Deja but. . .how much do you trust a flea market brand like performance tecknique?

especially when the SLCs come with crossovers anyway. I doubt that this kid is quite ready to go active yet. So yeah:

Pioneer TS-C720PRS: $250 all over ebay
Diamond D3 400.2: $270 (http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&Product_ID=181)

Puts you at $520 with great equipment. Save up another $200 and you can build yourself a decent substage.

Here what I would do:
Front comps: Rainbow SLC 265 Kicks about $280
Comps Amp: Zapco 4 channel- Bridged $231.99
http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&Product_ID=594
Rears (run off HU):MB quart 6x9 $100 (good sensitivity for HU power)
http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_6931_MB+Quart+DKF+169.html

Sorry Deja. . . . but my suggested system pwns yours!

From what I can gather, that xover is the same as the Profile RX30R (most of these likely come out of the same buildhouse out of China and are based around the same PCB design...just the aesthetics are different). For a budget/starter acive xover, I'd trust it.

But Hinty you do make a good point... the passives that come with the comps would be sufficient.

Sorry, I'm just on an active setup kick right now since I've been researching and understanding what the benefits are. ;)

Yeah, i hear ya. I'll be putting in my first active setup soon providing I can figure out my Alpine 3672. It's an active crossover from Alpine's glory days (Japanese Goodness :yumyum: ). Problem is it does 2/3way front, 2way rear, and sub and I only need 2way front!!! Trying to figure out how to overcome the frequency gaps and how to proprly set it up is confusing me.:crap:

Hehehe I know what you mean and that's why I'm going to stick with 2-way front + sub for my active. lol

Skip the rear, you won't miss it. You will be much happier spending that saved money on the frontstage instead. Or just saving it altogether.

i have always thought that from rear speakers usually more bass comes out... so wouldnt it be better if i get a nice 6 by 9's which give out pretty nice bass? or no 6 by 9's give bass?

XanderMoser

6x9s do give out some bass, but they mess with the imaging. Are you getting a sub? If not, then get a couple of the 6x9 Tang Band subwoofers from Parts Express. They won't mess with the imaging at all because they are actually subwoofers and they can fit in your stock rear locations.

Two of these running off of an amp would be awesome bass considering you don't need any trunk space

Tang Band would probably be your best bet for price and performance.

Option 1. Since you already have a sub and amp.. use them. That Kicker 12" will likely have greater output than the Tang Bands. I say throw it in a smallish sealed box to save trunk space and use it!

implayaz9

so what amp would you get for the rainbows? and where can i get sealed boxes for cheap?

XanderMoser

I was under the impression that you did not want a sub in your trunk because you needed to use your trunk, that's why I suggested the 6x9 subs.

What amp do you have for your sub right now? You may be able to use it for the Tang Bands if you choose to go that route

I'm still sticking with my earlier recommendation of the Blau VA2200 amp. For the output it does and coming from an authorized dealer, the price makes it a smoking hot deal.

Be sure you understand how to properly set your gains when playing with that much power for the SLC's.

implayaz9
05-14-2007, 10:56 AM
is there a guide on how to properly set the gains? .. i have no idea how to set the gains so..

Check out the Eclipse XA2000, Hifonics ZXi6006, Kicker ZX350.2, Kicker ZX450.2 Pioneer PRS-D2000T/D2100T, MA Audio HK398, and PG Xenon X100.2. Emphasis on the X100.2 amp (onlinecarstereo.com).
