I was thinking about buying a set of these. Anyone have them, or have any experience with them? Opinions would be appreciated!

I have herd them, and I was not impressed with them at all, the aluminum tweeter is very harsh, there isn't much Mid bass, and for the price there are much better out there, Such as CDT Focal Rainbow.

I used that set for almost a year. I was not impressed. Like previously stated harsh and lacking midbass. I also had one of the midbass drivers start making a scratching noise. That was my second Diamond comp set and I was unimpressed with both of them. I switched to the Rainbow CMX and they are a better all around set.

i personally love them. I have ran 3 sets of them over the alst few years. They dont lack midbass at all unless you dont isntall them correctly. The tweets arent as "harsh" as few people say. They are a awesome sounding speaker.... Anyone who says they arent good either is going off what someone else said or if they have ahd them they didnt install them correctly and any speaker would of sounded like crap with their install. Set your settings correctly and you will be hard pressed to find a comp set that can come close to the quality of these speakers.

In that price range I'd seriously look at the Rainbow CMX 265 Kick and the Germainium sets instead.

I ran the Diamonds in my comp car and never had any problems. I thought they sounded great once adjusted correctly. You can get them cheap on ebay. If you are whiling to spend more go with Rainbow. I will be running the Diamond in my wifes comp car. The alum tweet is bright but is easy to tame with some good EQ. It has good clarity but bested used in the kicks. If you have a good eq you can run them in the sails or a-pillars but they need some work to get them to sound not to bright.

Well that's the real differences... eBay vs internet vs authorized dealer...

Diamond HEX off eBay = arout $300 shipped

Diamond HEX from internet retailer = arout $400 shipped

Germaniums from authorized dealer (PremierAudio or 6spcoupe) = arout $450 shipped.

I'm going to have to agree with the respondants who have stated that the Hexes are not lacking in midbass unless they are in an inadequate install.

I have heard more than a few sets in proper installations and IMO they sound pretty freggin' good. :D
The aluminum tweeter is a bit harsh for some people's tastes and the silk tweet option is a bit smoother but that choice ends up boiling down to personal preference more than anything.

The last set in that list - used set for under $200/shipped was a nice buy. :fyi:

Oh, I agree... it's a great deal. But now we're talking used vs new.

Do we know whether or not the OP is opposed to buying used?

If there isn't a requirement of being new gear then that opens the possibilities up considerably. :)

I realize that.. I was just iterating. ;)

Thanks for the responses, fellas! I'd consider buying used if I knew that the set wasn't ragged too bad by the previous owner running 200-300W a side through them.

I usually ask a seller--

1. How were they amp'd/how much power was running through them?
2. What kind of music styles were primarily listed to through the speakers?

I've also been considering a set of the Polk Audio MMC6500 6 1/2" components, also. I've had a chance to listen to them, and I like the sound of the tweeter, and the midbass was decent, even if it was in a soundboard in a car audio shop.

How would you guys compare the HEX's to the MMC6500's in overall sound quality?

I like the Polk set better than the Diamond. They just seemed to blend better between mids and highs to me.

I did a direct swap from my Hexes to my CMX's and compared to the Rainbows the Diamonds are lacking midbass. I don't know what some of you guys did to get midbass but for the money I still believe there are much better sets. Another thing that I thought was pretty poor is the fact that the chrome and the set screws on them rusted. No my doors do not leak the car was brand new when I put the hexes in. I am not calling anyone out just stating my actual experience with them.

Germaniums from authorized dealer (PremierAudio or 6spcoupe) = arout $450 shipped.$450 for Germs? Try $600. Maybe 6spcoupe has them for that amount. I bought one new, one used set of HEXes for $250 over a year and a half ago on eBay. They do lack midbass. My install needs sound deadening, but they have zero midbass now. Silk tweeters are superb though. I listened to some Polk MMC's in Fry's after hearing alot about them and they were extremely bright.

Hear the Germ's are great, but for the price, either a lower line or lesser brand makes more sense.
